NBC's The Blacklist SpoilersJames Spader has been tapped to star in NBC’s drama pilot The Blacklist, per our sister site Deadline.

Penned by Jon Bokenkamp (Perfect Stranger) and exec-produced by John Eisendrath (Alias), John Fox and John Davis, the prospective series follows Red (Spader), the world’s most wanted criminal who suddenly turns himself in and offers to give up anyone he’s ever worked with. The catch: He’ll only work with a new FBI agent (played by Blue BloodsMegan Boone), one with whom he has no known connection.

Spader, who picked up three Emmys for his work as Alan Shore on ABC’s The Practice and subsequent spin-off Boston Legal, most recently appeared on The Office as a pseudo-successor to Steve Carell.

Ryan Eggold (90210) joined Blacklist earlier this week as the husband of Boone’s leading lady.

  • hey if you have to take from the best then USA is the best. First Psych with The Mentalist and taking a little from White Collar. As long as its executed well i see no problem and i still wanted him on office oh well

  • Lemme guess. the unknown connection to the FBI agent’ is that this criminal is her biological father. He’s doing this as a way to get to know her.

  • A lot of rehashes this pilot season: Roswell (Oxygen), Chuck (Intelligence) and now White Collar

  • You people are a real trip. So FBI agent + criminal automatically equals White Collar now? Saying that’s a leap is putting it nicely. By that logic:
    - Always Sunny is just a rehash of Cheers
    - 2 Broke Girls is an updated Alice
    - NBC’s Chuck was just a ripoff of UPN’s Jake 2.0
Must be the same people that really believe The Mentalist is a Psych ripoff.

    • Yeah because Body of Proof isn’t a House ripoff and Castle isn’t at all a Bones ripoff.

      • Everything with a surly, intelligent protagonist is a House ripoff now and any detective show with romantically linked co-leads are Moonlighting ripoffs.

      • This comparison always drives me nuts. Castle is NOT a Bones ripoff. I watch both, enjoy both, and they couldn’t be more different if they tried! Just because 2 shows have leads with a will they/won’t they relationship doesn’t mean one is a ripoff of another!

    • And really, even if these shows are ‘rip-offs’ who cares? We’re getting more excellent tv shows from it. And they always differ in execution + style so they are unique, even if they share similarities.

    • How could you say Sunny is a ripoff of cheers? have you ever seen an episode?

  • He would make a great red john on the mentalist…he could easily play super creepy and clever.

  • I hope the show gets picked up, I love James Spader and want to see him in a drama again. He was spectacular during the final season of The Practice. Plus he has lost a lot of weight and is thin again…looking good.
