No word yet on whether McCarthy — who can also currently be seen in the big-screen smash Identity Thief — will bring her ranch dressing-loving alter ego along with her, but a TVLine editor can dream, right?

  1. Tran says:

If SNL still want Melissa McCarthy to host again, they better be.

  2. Leah says:

Plllllllllllease let this be true. She was so great.

  3. The hosts are important, but they really need to start concentrating on the writing. A lot of skits seem like someone came up with one little joke and from that they decided to make a 6 minute sketch without figuring out anything else. No matter who the host is, if the writing isn’t funny, the skit is not going to be funny. However, actors can make the sketches funnier than written. The Taran Killam-Justin Bieber college brother sketch in hindsight really wasn’t that funny, but Taran’s utter ridiculousness made it funny. And to quote Tracy Jordan on breaking: “The audience loves it!”

      yes. YES. and YYEEEEEESSSSSSSSS.
Seth Meyers has done a fine job as head writer, but it’s time for a change. SNL needs some fresh blood.

      • Eli says:

Oh puh-lease! The Head Writer title on SNL is just that, a title. Everybody knows how the process goes, the actors and writers write their own skits and Lorne basically picks what goes to air along with the host in a private meeting. True, the head writer is there on that meeting but the picking is really Lorne’s thing. And again, the skits are not written by the head writer but mostly by the featured players

        • Leonard says:

I personally believe they have too many writers on staff anyway. Lorne: make them sink or swim, fire all the dead weight, find some talented people that can really excel! Second city and UCB do much better stuff with a quarter of the number of the staff at SNL. Make it a place where people want to work again rather than a place where they can work. 90s was the best!

  4. JC says:

    Rex Reed will be furious.

  5. Mike says:

Great, a repeat of a good host is better than more bad ones.

  6. Kim R says:

Yes! Perhaps there will be a Rex Reed sketch of some sort! :)

  7. Brandon says:

Best news I’ve heard all day.

  8. A says:

She really is an amazing actress all around! Still remember her back from the Gilmore days. And Mike & Molly is always hilarious. So happy for her and the huge success she’s been having these past few years.

  9. J says:

“Why don’tcha come upstairs and see me up there sometime?”

Her stint last year was one of a handful of SNLs that seemed to bat 1000. Very excited for a repeat.

  10. Magically Suspicious says:

If they were smart, they’d have her involved on a recurring basis….ala Justin Timberlake. The episode she hosted last season was the best I’ve seen in years.

  11. Sandro says:

WOO HOO!. She was hilarious her first time around.
