Saturday Night Live: Your 25 Dream Host Picks!

To say that Season 38 of Saturday Night Live has been a little lackluster would be like calling the Kardashian clan a wee bit overexposed. And while it wouldn’t be fair to place the sketch-comedy show’s woes on the shoulders of its guest hosts, the most recent string of emcees — Adam Levine, Justin Bieber, Christoph Waltz and Kevin Hart — haven’t exactly upgraded the tired lines that showed up on their cue cards.

Which got us thinking: Back in September, TVLine brainstormed a list of 15 first-time hosts we were dying to see. You responded with hundreds of fantastic suggestions of your own. And since Lorne Michaels & Co. seem to need all the help they can get, we picked your best ideas — none of whom have hosted before — and compiled ‘em in a handy gallery.

So click through the photos below, then hit the comments with your thoughts on who you’d like to see follow Justin Timberlake’s stint this coming Saturday (11:30/10:30c, NBC)!

    • I like this suggestion a lot. How NPH and Joel McHale are not on the list is baffling.

Comment by Sg. Grant – March 5, 2013 07:28 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • NPH has hosted before. It was people who hadn’t hosted yet. Now no Joel McHale, that is a head scratcher…

    • how those 2 havent been on before is beyond me, they have such perfect comedic back and forth that it would practically write itself

  • I’d add Joel McHale, Alison Brie, and Matthew Perry to the list as well. Otherwise, there are so many amazing options on this list.

    • Yes, please on Joel McHale. Soup up SNL and toss it with a side of meta. Cameos ith Donald Glover and Danny Pudi.

Comment by abel – March 5, 2013 03:37 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Yeah, was a little surprised to NOT see him in the list. I would DEFINITELY love to see him host the show.
Am happy to see mention of Donald Glover, Stephen Colbert, and Craig Ferguson, though, fully agreed on those guys as well. Carol Burnett would be awesome, too.

Comment by Angela – March 5, 2013 05:46 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • Joel Mchale was on the first list

  • Love the Kat Dennings idea, maybe soon… even if on two different networks, although didn’t stop Melissa McCarthy, but she had just had hit movie so who knows, would like it though

Comment by Martin – March 5, 2013 02:49 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I, too, am in favor of Kat Dennings from Two Broke Girls hosting SNL, and I hope she gets her chance next, because I think she’d blend in well with the cast of SNL.

I want Kat Dennings with musical guest Youngblood Hawke from L.A., Eliza Doolittle or Bat for Lashes

  • NATHAN FILLION! He’s known for his charming sense of humor, and evidently does decent impressions. I’d love to see what he can do!

    • not to mention that based on the various outtake reels from stuff he has worked on he probably has more than enough ideas for jokes.

  • It has always baffled me that Stephen Colbert has not hosted. Has he turned it down? Steve Carrell hosted, only fair to let the other half of the Ambiguously Gay Duo host

Comment by Amy – March 5, 2013 02:50 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Aside from his Colbert Report persona, he doesn’t have a great track record for staying in character while doing sketches. Then again, Jimmy Fallon made a good living cracking up during every skit, so maybe that’s okay…

Comment by wordsmith – March 5, 2013 03:03 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • You’ve seen him in his days on the Dana Carvey Show, right?

Comment by mondosalvo – March 5, 2013 05:13 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • stephen colbert was on when they did the live action ambiguously gay duo — but i agree it doesn’t count.

Comment by Jay K – March 5, 2013 08:13 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I think either officially or unofficially he’s turned down things like this or the Emmys hosting job. He’s the “Stephen Colbert” character for bits like presenting, but people can’t get it in their head that that’s not him. Trying to be a different character in front of them would be a jarring experience for both sides. Maybe if he could figure out a way to do it, but I’m guessing he’d have done it already if he thought it was possible.

Comment by Amanda – March 5, 2013 02:55 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Totally agree. There are a lot of funny people I love on the list, but these are the three who I’m sure would translate best to the SNL stage and completely kill it as hosts.

Comment by wordsmith – March 5, 2013 03:06 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • My SNL dream hosts that didn’t make on that list: Damian Lewis, Chris Pine, Paul Walker, WWE superstar John Cena, Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad, Michelle Dockery & Hugh Bonneville of Downton Abbey and perhaps Jim Parsons from The Big Bang Theory.

Comment by Tran – March 5, 2013 02:57 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • ugh self righteous john cena, replace him with someone like cm punk who will try to make the others look good as well as himself and that is a pretty fine list.

  • Kelly Clarkson. Kelly was hilarious in her 2 skits the first time she was a musical guest. What is the hold up with inviting her back as the host and musical guest? This girl is comedy gold.

Comment by Ang – March 5, 2013 02:59 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Oh! I so agree! I went to her concert here in Texas last Friday and she is hilarious!! (Not to mention the best singer ever!) I would also include Josh Hutcherson as a host. I love Nathan Fillion and think he would be great! I’m afraid I would have to skip SNL if Kathy Griffin hosted. Ugh!!

  • Add Connie Britton to this list. There are endless possibilities and yet SNL keeps getting the same people (remember that one season where Emma Stone – though her episodes were funny – hosted twice in one year?).
    Spread the hosting love!
