Casting News: Hawaii Five-0 Summons Aquaman, Southland Gets a Big Shaq and More

HAwaii Five-0 Spoilers: Alan Ritchson CastTV’s erstwhile Aquaman, Alan Ritchson, is heading to Hawaii Five-0 — where it appears he’ll stay on dry land.

Per Zap2It, the Smallville and Blue Mountain State alum will guest-star on the CBS procedural as a Navy SEAL who was McGarrett’s best buddy in the military. He’ll thus appear in some illuminating flashbacks to training and battle sequences.

Ritchson’s credits also include TV’s 90210 and CSI: Miami, and the upcoming film The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

* Onetime NBA superstar and Southland superfan Shaquille O’Neal has scored a guest spot on TNT’s cop drama as a police officer who knows Cooper (played by Michael Cudlitz) from the academy, Access Hollywood reports.

* Mikaela Hoover, who has played one of Charlie’s Sheen’s Anger Management conquests, next will hang with Charlie Harper’s replacement, Walden (played by Ashton Kutcher), on Two and a Half Men. Hoover’s credits also include appearances on Happy Endings, as Dave’s too-young rebound girl.

* Aussie actor Tom Green (Home & Away, of course) has landed the male lead in NBC’s Meatballs-like summer series Camp, Deadline reports. He will play Kip, a loner who likes indie rock and documentary films and hates people.

  1. Streed says:

I’m confused. This guy played Aquaman on Smallville, right? The Aquaman pilot’s Aquaman was Green Arrow on Smallville, while a different guy plays Green Arrow on Arrow. Do I have it straight?

    • Lo says:

LOL, yes indeed. Justin Hartley was AC Curry (Aquaman) in Aquaman and he was Oliver Queen (Green Arrow) in Smallville… and then moved over to Emily Owens MD. Meanwhile Stephen Amell plays the new Oliver Queen in Arrow.

    • anakinjmt says:

Yes but it’s not that confusing. They’re all different universes.

    • Dizzle says:

Yes haha! I don’t think Justin Hartley was added to Smallville until after The CW passed on the Aquaman series though. The CW (and The WB before that) seems to very much model itself after the old studio systems of Hollywood past…. Once they get an actor in their sights they plug them into project after project until they get a hit (see: Hartley, Britt Robertson, Katie Cassidy, Phoebe Tonkin, Jensen Ackles….)

      • What? says:

Heck, you could call that the Joss Whedon model these days. Guaranteed at least one of Summer Glau, Amy Acker, Eliza Dushku, Adam Baldwin or Fran Kranz will show up on S.H.I.E.L.D. before too long. Not that that’s a bad thing.

  2. Aloha and farewell Five-0 says:

What happened to this show? Somewhere along the way, this show has lost its way. A girl friend for McGarrett, another ‘best bud’ GQ model from the military for McGarrett. Jack Lord is rolling over in his grave, may he rest in peace.

Is this show still geared towards male viewers, or is it ‘Castle-time’ for Five-0 in a desperate search for more female viewers? Maybe this shows needs to be moved to ABC or the CW. I’ve moved on.

Its over you know – this show is done. Friday nights or maybe Sunday at 10pm – that’s the best hope now for fall’13. Aloha Five-0, RIP.

    • Dizzle says:

Not quite sure it’s done, but they have had to step up their game in the face of NBC’s Revolution. Castle isn’t really a threat, it’s demo ratings are mostly on par with H5O. CBS has bigger concerns though (Tuesdays at 10, Fridays 8-9 and Sundays from 9) so it’s unlikely they’ll call it quits yet. Although if the ratings trend continues don’t expect it to last past any syndication deals that are done.

  3. Aly says:

I still remember seeing Alan on American Idol heh heh. It was difficult to take him seriously as Aquaman after that.

  4. Dr.Comic says:

Alan Ritchson is so freaking funny and hot. Very rare
