From Without a Trace‘s Byron Balasco, the Romeo and Juliet-esque soap explores two rival families living in the famed California beach town and the forbidden, dangerous romance that emerges between them. Beals will play the elegant Lisa Carver, matriarch to one of the two feuding clans.

    • Yes but this is completely different. It’s a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet set in Venice, California instead of Verona, Italy.

  • Lisa Carver = LC = Lady Capulet. Oh-so-clever, ABC. Without doing any research (I’m not sure whether any of the other characters have been named yet), I can almost promise that the other duelling family’s surname will begin with the letter M.

    • Considering VENICE is *intentionally* meant to be a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet, I’d say you’re right.

  • I think she’ll play juliet’s mother… Probably a trophy wife of sorts….

  • This show now must be picked up, I love her and deserve a successful show.
Also im done with everyone who keeps saying this show is a show online, like get over it, there comes a time when shows will be called the same or close to it plus this will be a network tv show while the other is a tv show online so it’s two different things.

  • Didn’t the networks try this a few years ago with Olivia Wilde?

    • Sort of. It was called Skin and it was set around the porn business. I don’t think they’ll have much in common aside from the Romeo and Juliet thing.

  • This is great news. Beals’ appearance on The Mob Doctor was fantastic and should have been spun off into a series. I’m excited that she has this role and hopeful that the pilot will be picked up.

    • We get it guys. Two shows have the same title. Only, one’s online so it doesn’t really count. Eventually, two people are going to have the same idea for a show title. If we’re factoring in network, cable AND online shows, it’s impossible for every one that comes out to have a totally unique title.

      • Chaiken has plagiarised Crystal Chappell’s concepts for Venice the Series and The Grove, which has two rival families and is set in southern California. Whether it’s online or in outerspace, Dude man, doesn’t matter. Also, the LWord had a lgbt audience, which now enjoys Chappell’s offerings. It appears that Chaiken has stolen from her own community in order to produce an idea which doesn’t even cast any gay characters….yet.

  • Strange how this show has the same name as Crystal Chappell’s first web series “Venice” and also has a very similar basic plot line to her second webseries “The Grove”.
