Pilot Scoop: Oscar Nominee Jacki Weaver Cast as Matriarch in CBS Comedy The McCarthys

The McCarthy's CBS Pilot Jacki WeaverJacki Weaver has parlayed her Silver Linings Playbook fame into a lead role in CBS’ comedy pilot The McCarthys, TVLine has learned.

The half-hour project, from Brian Gallivan (Are You There, Chelsea?) and Will Gluck (Andy Richter Controls the Universe), centers on a sports-crazed Irish-Catholic Boston family.

The Oscar-nominated Weaver will play Marjorie, the clan’s loving, exhausted and un-filtered matriarch who loves having her gay son Ronny keep her company when her hubby (Rescue Me‘s Jack McGee) and other children are obsessing over basketball.

Fred Savage recently signed on to direct the pilot.

  • Love Jackie Weaver but surprised she would take a tv role right now. I would think her movie demand would be high right now as a recent double Oscar nominee.

  • I’m so glad that Jacki Weaver is getting the recognition (and TV/movie offers) she deserves. As a fellow Aussie who grew up watching her I’m so thrilled for all of her new found success and can’t wait to see her really take Hollywood by storm!
