Pilot Scoop: CBS Orders Beverly Hills Cop, Hart Hanson Drama and a Friends-ly Sitcom

CBS Pilot: Beverly Hills CopCheck your tailpipe for bananas now, because CBS on Tuesday ordered a pilot for Shawn Ryan’s Beverly Hills Cop. The network also greenlit a drama pilot from Bones boss Hart Hanson and a sitcom from a Friends producer.

As well-reported last year, the small-screen Beverly Hills Cop stars Brandon T. Jackson as Axel Foley’s police officer son Aaron, who like his dad finds himself walking the Beverly Hills beat. Ryan (The Shield) will pen the pilot, with Marney Hochman as a second EP.

The drama project Backstrom, written and exec-produced by Hart Hanson, is based on the Swedish book series about an overweight, offensive, irascible detective as he tries, and fails, to change his self-destructive behavior. Leif G.W. Persson and Niclas Salomonsson also serve as EPs.

CBS’ lone comedy pilot order (for the day) goes to Friends With Better Lives, from Friends producer Dana Klein and revolving around a group of 30something friends who each think the other has it better. Aaron Kaplan joins Klein as an EP on the multi-cam project.

I’d check out Beverly Hills Cop. The movies were good, and Shawn Ryan’s awesome.
I was hoping Intelligence and Darkness Falls were getting pilot orders, though. :(

So basically the chances of Rules of Engagement getting renewed just increased. They are going to need something in case someone fails.

Rule of engagement is ending after this season coming up. They didn’t annonce it yet, but the actors did on their twitter saying how sad they were to have filmed the series finale. (they all said 100th and last episode ever). sigh…. i really like that show, it so deserved more than seven seasons !! and more than just half seasons as well !!

        • Jo says:

I don’t have a link, but this is what I see from twitter, from Bianca Kahlich (who plays Jen) and Megyn Price (who plays Audrey)

Bianca: “Filmed our 100th and most likely last episdoe of rules last night. I’m so grateful for the past 7 years”
Megyn: “Final taping of Rules of engagement. Smiling though tears.” (she posted a pic of her and the actor who plays her husband, with David Spade at a church scene, possibly Adam and Jen’s wedding?)

CBS is in a pretty comfortable spot and doesn’t need much as far as pilots go. Hopefully this means good news for The Good Wife.

If Hart Hanson has anything to do with something, No way I’m watching it…Yes. Full fledged member of the Dim Nasty brigade.

  6. cj says:

These sound terrible. Man what a waste next season for ABC Fox and CBS so far.

  7. I like the prospect of a Beverly Hills Cop show, but I’m certain that being on a network instead of cable will result in a show that resembles Beverly Hills Cop 3 more than a show that resembles the original Beverly Hills Cop.

  8. Jj says:

If it is anything close to resembling the third Beverly Hills Cop movie, then it will be horrific… hopefully it will be more like the first two movies!!!

  9. Boone says:

Love Shawn Ryan so i will check out his “Beverly Hills Cop” for sure.

  10. JJ says:

Soooo…two cop shows and a friends nock-off. Way to go CBS.

  11. Zorkel567 says:

Any word on if NCIS: Red could get a pilot?

  12. Martin says:

As long as the Anna Faris comedy gets ordered, I’m happy.
