Homeland Damian Lewis Season 3It’s official: Homeland‘s Season 2 finale was not — we repeat not — Brody’s swan song.

Damian Lewis will return for the Showtime smash’s upcoming third season, executive producer Howard Gordon confirmed to TVLine Sunday night following the show’s big Golden Globes triumph.

“He’s alive so of course he’ll be back,” Gordon said at Fox’s after party. “One of the great challenges of next [season] is how he’ll be back. But there’s no doubt that he will be back.”

Homeland‘s second season ended with Claire Danes’ Carrie helping Brody embark on his new life as a fugitive. At the time, exec producer Alex Gansa said Lewis’ involvement in Season 3 was very much “an open question,” adding, “We had a much clearer picture of what the first two seasons would be than we do of what the third season would be…. Damian’s involvement and [the actors who fill out Brody's family] is very much up in the air.”

Just last week, Showtime president David Nevins sidestepped questions about Lewis’ future on the show, telling reporters, “It’s perfectly fair to ask, but how fun would it be if I gave you any of those spoilers?”

For his part, the Emmy- and now Golden Globe-winning Lewis told Entertainment Weekly last year that his seven-year Homeland contract is essentially worthless. “[It] doesn’t mean anything,” he told the mag. “They can kill me whenever they want.”

Homeland‘s third season launches Sunday, Sept. 29 at 9/8c.

Thoughts? Relieved Lewis is returning (at least in some capacity)? Or were you hoping that was the last we would see of him? Weigh in below!

  • Absolutely want Damian Lewis to come back. Maybe a parallel story line of him living in Canada while Carrie works hard to clear his name. They stay in touch but then a twist in the plot. Just as she finally is able to clear his name, and the path for his safe return, Brody falls for a Canadian woman, breaking Carrie’s heart once again. Damian Lewis is just too good and compelling to leave him in Canada and out of the show, so he should come back with his Canadian wife and work for Military Intelligence or CIA where his path crosses with Carrie’s, providing lots of sexual tension and grief.

  • Homeland might work without Brody. Look at Game of Thrones at the end of the 1st Season. Who thought that would happen and the show is still going strong.

  • How can anyone want to get rid of Brody or say his story has been told? There are still many unanswered questions now that he is on the run, and many different ways to answer. I would not watch if he wasn’t a big part of the show.

  • Happy that Brody will be back for Season 3. If he dies, I hope he dies for something huge. Like for the country or for at least Carrie. Yes I am a supporter (Y) I hope season 3 doesn’t fall short that god forbid it gets cancelled.
    Homeland rocks my socks off.

  • I would love to see season 3 follow line of Traitor ( the movie) meets Homeland. I don’t need to see the Brody fixes his lovelife Hollywood storyline, but would love to see Saul and Carrie take on al Qaeda by sending Brody back to the Middle East. Saul could be the spectic while Carrie could believe everything Brody says. We could wonder if he is the manipulative terrorist or our best weapon against terrorism.

  • I think they can put more twist if Brody will still be around. However, I liked Peter Quinn than Brody. LOL

I am so excited for the third season!

  • wonderfull..wonderfull show but come on guys, leave the explicit sex scene for the porno pundits, were mature adults watching a serious show, we have adult imaginations so why not just leave it to that…great show

  • There is only one episode that gives us a legitimate clue about who the mole is. Season 1: Aileen receives a phone call as the prof. is on the way home and places the flag out the window. The voice and dialect sound like either 1. the cia guy who gives the polygraph 2. the state dept guy who vehemently objects to questioning the saudi amb. or 3. Max.
