Ratings: Castle Returns Up, Deception Wins Time Slot With Not-So-Revolutionary Numbers

TV Review: NBC's DeceptionIt was a crowded house indeed for Castle, as the ABC series’ winter premiere drew this Monday’s largest audience with 8.6 million total viewers, while rising two tenths in the demo to a 1.9 rating.

Castle however was edged out for the 10 o’clock demo win by NBC newbie Deception, which opened to 5.6 mil and a 2.0 — down sharply from time slot predecessor Revolution‘s own launch (11.7 mil/4.1) and fall finale (8.5 mil/2.9), both of which of course benefited from a much beefier lead-in (The Voice) than The Biggest Loser. Speaking of the peacock’s weight-loss series, with 6.3 mil and a 2.4, TBL shed 9 and 17 percent of Sunday’s premiere numbers.

  1. jamie says:

I’m thinking Deception’s numbers would’ve been higher but the BCS Championship game was on and the numbers of that game have proven that most of America was watching that

  2. gary says:

ya not really the greatest day to launch a new show

  3. Jamie says:

I love Castle but if Deception bet them out when half the country was watching a football game and most of the people who wanted to watch Deception watched it online already I am a little worried. Castle seems like the best how no one is watching!

  4. Amy says:

Absolutely loved Deception! I hope the show sticks around!

  5. Decent numbers for Deception considering a) the BCS game and b) It’s not a huge shedding of viewers from the biggest loser, especially for a new show — only 11% of total audience

  6. Jared says:

I watched the preview of Deception on demand but I definatly plan to watch live next week. Loved it and Meagan Good.

  7. Alex says:

Deception was a disappointment. Boring, with bad writing, and Meagan Good sucks in the lead role.

    • JJ says:

Completely agree with you… for a show that was about deception, it was boring!! I didn’t even finish watching the episode! I won’t be going back.

  8. Joe says:

Saw deception on iTunes a few weeks back, was kinda slow , don’t think it will last

  9. William says:

Not too bad for Deception. Hopefully the numbers go up next week since the pilot leaked a few weeks ago. Like I said before, the show offers a lot of promise with the storylines.

  10. rachelle says:

i haven’t watched Deception yet. i’m waiting to see if it has lasting power before i get invested in it. i hate getting invested in a show only to be sad when it gets cancelled.

  11. Helen says:

I was pleasantly surprised ,the acting and the story was good…will keep watching

  12. a says:

Watched the first episode online, but will watch future episodes. Liked it a lot!

  13. CJ says:

Didn’t watch….don’t care if it succeeds….wondering what happened to the subjects of my sentences.

  14. leigh says:

I suspect both castle and deception would have done better without the competition of the national championship game but it was better for castle then I thought it was going to be. Good solid episode :D and Roll Tide.

  15. Robin says:

Bring back Lie to Me, stop the merry go round of mediocre new shows.
