Ratings: Castle Returns Up, Deception Wins Time Slot With Not-So-Revolutionary Numbers

TV Review: NBC's DeceptionIt was a crowded house indeed for Castle, as the ABC series’ winter premiere drew this Monday’s largest audience with 8.6 million total viewers, while rising two tenths in the demo to a 1.9 rating.

Castle however was edged out for the 10 o’clock demo win by NBC newbie Deception, which opened to 5.6 mil and a 2.0 — down sharply from time slot predecessor Revolution‘s own launch (11.7 mil/4.1) and fall finale (8.5 mil/2.9), both of which of course benefited from a much beefier lead-in (The Voice) than The Biggest Loser. Speaking of the peacock’s weight-loss series, with 6.3 mil and a 2.4, TBL shed 9 and 17 percent of Sunday’s premiere numbers.

  • I’m thinking Deception’s numbers would’ve been higher but the BCS Championship game was on and the numbers of that game have proven that most of America was watching that

  • I love Castle but if Deception bet them out when half the country was watching a football game and most of the people who wanted to watch Deception watched it online already I am a little worried. Castle seems like the best how no one is watching!

  • Decent numbers for Deception considering a) the BCS game and b) It’s not a huge shedding of viewers from the biggest loser, especially for a new show — only 11% of total audience

  • Deception was a disappointment. Boring, with bad writing, and Meagan Good sucks in the lead role.

    • Completely agree with you… for a show that was about deception, it was boring!! I didn’t even finish watching the episode! I won’t be going back.

  • Not too bad for Deception. Hopefully the numbers go up next week since the pilot leaked a few weeks ago. Like I said before, the show offers a lot of promise with the storylines.

  • i haven’t watched Deception yet. i’m waiting to see if it has lasting power before i get invested in it. i hate getting invested in a show only to be sad when it gets cancelled.

  • I suspect both castle and deception would have done better without the competition of the national championship game but it was better for castle then I thought it was going to be. Good solid episode :D and Roll Tide.
