Elsewhere, just a few quick notes:

* CBS’ Home for the Holidays special featuring Rascal Flatts did 5 mil and a 0.9, up 21 percent and a tenth from last winter’s Martina McBride special.

* NBC’s broadcast of the Miss Universe pageant (6.1 mil/1.8) ticked up two tenths versus 2011. Leading out of that, Chicago Fire did its second-best numbers of the season — 6.6 mil/1.9, bested only by that special outing which was teed up by The Voice.

* Katie Couric’s year-end recap special for ABC (aka People Not Quite As Fascinating as Barbara’s) delivered 5.4 mil/1.6, up a tenth from 2011.

  • I am really getting into Chicago Fire. Thankfully it is on NBC so it has a chance for renewal. I’ll be keeping my fingers crosses. Last nights episode was really good. Hopeful the people who watches last night watch in 2 weeks when it comes back

  • Another great episode of Chicago Fire last night. I’m glad to see more people are tuning in. Now all I need is for NBC to pick it up for another season and I’ll have a Happy New Year!

    • Amen! Chicago Fire is SO good and last night’s ep was the best of the season. Cruz’s decision was genuinely shocking, and the cliffhanger ending was great. Unfortunately the show is up against CSI, which has similar viewer demos (I’d love to see NBC move it into the Thursday 10PM “ER” slot). Judging from the enthusiasm for CF on Twitter it looks like more people are becoming fans, though…

  • Love Chicago Fire!! My favorite newbie this TV season by far. Can’t believe we only have to wait two weeks for it to come back. Most other shows are at least a month or more.
