TVLINE | When did you decide that Dan would be Gossip Girl?
I don’t think we ever had another choice in our mind. It was always just a question of were we going to reveal it or not to reveal it. It was unclear if knowing Gossip Girl’s identity was something fans would want. Maybe it was more fun for everyone to not know who Gossip Girl was and be able to speculate and come up with your own ideas.

TVLINE  | It’s no surprise that fans are now combing through six years of episodes looking for inconsistencies — like scenes where Dan was alone reading Gossip Girl’s blasts and looking surprised. How do you account for that stuff?
We didn’t want to lean in too heavily to that idea. It was nothing that we talked to the actors about. It was nothing that we wanted to be part of Penn Badgely’s performance as Dan. Or something that we wanted viewers to be actively thinking about. We were hoping to have a nice long run and we didn’t want people to be preoccupied by the question of, “Who is Gossip Girl?” So we held reins loosely and didn’t want to draw attention to the fact that one of our main characters might actually be Gossip Girl.

TVLINE | Are you then sort of asking viewers to take a leap of faith with you on this, acknowledging that all of the pieces to the puzzle might not fit?
Um… no. [Laughs] I don’t think I’m asking that.

TVLINE | Nate ended up single — why?
Well, he’s single for now. The Nate story we wanted to tell was that Dan allowed him to break the Gossip Girl story, which helped jumpstart The Spectator. And to see Nate at a place in the future where he was successful and focused on work. He didn’t have any crazy partners or distracting girlfriends. We’re seeing him come into his own as a young man and a real player in the New York scene.

TVLINE | What was the significance of Chuck and Blair naming their child Henry?
That was what Chuck renamed himself when he was shot.

TVLINE | Why was it important for you to show that Chuck and Blair had become parents?
It seemed like the ultimate coming together of their union and their future. And wanting to see that Chuck and Blair could both be good parents… See the joy that that little boy brings to his grandparents. And you got to see a little mini-Chuck in a bowtie.

TVLINE | Did you ever consider putting Dan and Blair together in the future?
Um… nope! [Laughs]

TVLINE | So it was always going to be Chuck and Blair?
I don’t know about always, but certainly by the end of last season when we were writing our Season 5 finale. We had a sense of what the endgame of the characters were going to be. We knew what we were writing to in Season 6.

TVLINE | A lot of people were surprised that Rufus and Lily didn’t reunite. Talk to me about that decision.
Obviously, Rufus and Lily together complicates the Serena and Dan dynamic. But more importantly, we felt that Rufus and Lily gave it a real college try. But after CeCe died, it was just too hard for Lily to meet Rufus in the middle. She tried to make it work with Bart Bass, and he was a little bit — or a lot — too dark. And psychotic. Dr. Van der Woodsen kind of split the difference. He’s going to let Lily drink all the gin in her teacup that she wants and not really question any of her choices like Rufus might. He’s the father of her children. So that felt like a fun, slightly twisted way to end out Lily’s romantic story. And I think it was very important that we saw that Rufus and Lily still have a very strong and loving connection with each other. And they’ll always be bonded by the relationship between their children.

TVLINE | The Lisa Loeb cameo was a fun surprise — how did that come about?
[Laughs] We didn’t want Rufus to be alone! And he has been spending a lot of time recently with Lisa Loeb. He really enjoyed his hormone-free Thanksgiving concert that he went to. And so that just felt like a nice way to give him someone who was from his world. At the end of the day, Rufus is probably most true to who he was of all the characters.

TVLINE | The Kristen Bell/Rachel Bilson sequence — how did the idea come about for that? They didn’t merely check their phones — they performed a whole comedic bit.
Once we felt certain that we could do Rachel and Kristen together, it seemed like you wanted to build more for them than just having them look at their phones. If you’re going to have those two ladies together in a scene then we wanted to have fun and play to their strengths. So Josh Schwartz and I came up with the whole idea… Having Kristen on the show was very, very special. To be able to have her onscreen for the finale was great. And to have Rachel do it with her was just the icing on the cake.

Dear Stephanie Savage, GGWriters, Creators, Directors, etc ESPECIALLY Stephanie Savage

L.A has very many employment opportunities. Most hot employment opportunities come from the real estate sectors. Please stop making, writing, producing whatever you called this show and seek other employment. You’re very very very bad at it. This goes especially for Stephanie Savage.

All the best in your future employment choices, cause god knows you can write, direct and produce.

  • lol I love moronic Chair fans use Dan being GG to defend the fact they still love an abusive ship with an attempted rapist that pimps their girlfriends for hotels. Look at your life, look at your choices, etc. That’s pretty desperate you need other characters to be “worse” to justify multiple sexual and violent assaults. Eww. If you actually cared about Blair at all and females having self-respect, you just would want Blair to end up with neither because they’re both jerks. She turned into a terrible character herself so whatever tho.

    • Abuse like emotional abuse Dan gave everyone on the show for years and even got many harmed? Or like when Dan knew Serena was drugged up but just decided not to tell anyone where she was? Your arguments hold no water anymore. Chuck’s grown, Dan never did and ,bottom line, Blair loves, married, and had a child with Chuck. You lost. It’s done. You can keep screaming but you never can change anything and that gives us all great delight.

  • People that are complaining about Dan being Gossip Girl…Who else was it suppose to be? Someone random that we didnt care about? It always had to be Dan. Can we all just agree that this was the worse Gossip Girl season ever? It was suppose to be the swan song. Blair and Serena BF, Chuck/Nate/Dan Friends but instead we got a season full of Sage and Bart Bass…If anything we should be bitching about them wasting the last season on two characters no one cared about

  • how funny now chairios care about Blair losing her baby? When it was for Chuck you didn’t care and nobody told her to run away! Btw Blair herself didn’t care about it!!!!!!
And Dan stopping the wedding with Louis is why she could be with Chuck after, if so she would still be trapped in this marriage.

And for Dan he was an asshole this season (like anyone else during all GG except maybe Nate) but making him G makes any sense, is a pure sh*t! because a lot of fans even some chair fans with a brain noticed”scenes where Dan was alone reading Gossip Girl’s blasts and looking surprised” or when a blast was sent while he was busy like when him & Blair kiss in season 4. None of the main characters made a sense to be GG. And by the way the fact that Dan is GG is one of the reason why we wouldn’t wanr Derena together, Serena was like happy he’s gg while she hated “him”

and for chair it will always be unhealthy, toxic, abusive, not equals but season 6 blair deserves chuck even if he’s now more mature then her.

But they juste make Dan GG for being the most evil because this last season is the theme of evil dan but don’t forget chuck was an attempt rapist, sold Blair, humiliated her, hurts her and let his dad die just after telling how a man should be

Non really I don’t care about endagmes, chair together don’t care really but I hope Dan will end alone or with georgina and serena with Nate

oh and georgina/jask is disgusting. Thank God this crappy show is over! And me too, last post! Hope the cast will have a great career,

    • No, people actually cared about Blair losing her child. I for one, thought it was a terrible and thought Leighton could have acted the hell out of Blair losing her child.

And Chuck- Chuck has actually grown and apologized over the series. Dan never has for anything and he got off so easily for making their lives crap. You can spew Chuck hate all you want but Dan became the jerk that tormented them for seasons all to get ahead and to be in their world. Chuck actually had character growth. I’ll take growth in a character over one who remains douchey the whole show and then become the largest douche on the show. it won’t negate Dan is Gossipgirl and always was.

You say you don’t care about endgame or the show which is a lie given how you’ve laid out your post. Sorry you didn’t get what you wanted but before shipping Dair you should have seen what Savage said all along. It was always Chuck and Blair. Good luck trying to figure out other shows,

      • The real reason you moronic Chair Darena shippers won is the producers writers and most of the audience wanted relationships full of drama with the characters in those relationships even though they pretended to care about them who were Chuck and Blair Dan and Serena William and Lily and they only wanted them back since Blair was in love with Dan even though she didn’t say it Dan was in love with Blair and Lily was in love with Rufus and they should of listen to the actors and actress who they wanted as endgame they did for the ratings and the GG writers got it all wrong Dan was never Blair’s soulmate Dan never wanted Blair to be her true self around him Dan never peer inside your soul but Serena’s soul instead and they proved Eric Serena Chuck Rufus Ivy Georgina and Vanessa wrong by saying Dan always wanted Serena instead of Blair but they should of done since they intended to do first place was keep building the Dair relationship/friendship Rufly relationship/friendship since Dan and Blair cared about each other even though Blair treated like crap loved each other Dan was Blair’s soulmate Blair was her trueself around him he treated her right their love was the right one also good pure and simple they had a real connection since they had stuff in common she felt safe and strong around him forgave each other for past mistakes they were in love with each other got her to feel like a princess one last time got her to follow in Mother’s footsteps Dan loved her for her and their relationship wasn’t filled with Drama and the same thing with Rufus and Lily they cared about in love with each other Lily got to be her true self around Rufus and Lily was Rufus’s first love.

      • The only relationships that they built over 5 Seasons were Dair and Rufly they even built Nate and Serena for a little while the only douche bag on the show was Chuck since he rejected her when she turned to him for help wasn’t there for her when she needed him the most on the other hand Dan was there for her when she turned to him for help he always was there for her when she needed him the most like taking her to church since she was the reason she lost her child and almost lost Chuck after Ivy sent that in tip that was at the empire with him Dan sacrificed his own feelings for her to make her happy he even shutdown GG for her after she left town she didn’t Chuck to know the truth that she and Dorota and Serena were GG so they had Dan pretend he was GG to protect them Dair almost endgame during the middle of Season 6 if Sage and Georgina hadn’t ruined it for them since Blair wanted Steven to marry Serena so she could finally be with Dan without worrying that he’ll run back to Serena but he didn’t have enough patience Dan forgave her for tormenting him and his Sister on GG the only reason Stephanie Savage said that because she’s biggest Chair shipper there is and even she said they won’t last forever even Ed said that Penn’s character Dan was more in love with Leighton’s character Blair than his own character Chuck was when she was around Chuck she was weak and vulnerable but she when around Dan she was strong and safe and also got to be her true self around him and they were also best friends besides being boyfriend and girlfriend Dan treated her right unlike Chuck who was terrible to her and GG writers never made Dan make amence with Blair like they did between her and Chuck.

Other than it being no surprise that Dan was GG, my only complaint (that I can think of now) was that the ending seemed really rushed.

  • The finale was exactly the way it was supposed to be! I felt like Leighton and Ed were acting even more brilliantly than usual. It was like they wanted to give us the perfect Chair scenes in the last episode once again. There was so much love between them and it will always be like that. They are closer than ever now.. not only because of the marriage but also because they understood that they have always been meant for each other. Their little son is perfection; I absolutely fell in love with the way he ran to his daddy when he entered the room and after that scene they showed us the proud mother and beautiful wife. The Bass family is perfection! Thank you Gossip Girl.. for everything!

  • Ok, so happy about Blair and Chuck. It is nice to see Chuck as a father, b/c we all know he will be a good one to him unlike Bart who was evil. As far as Serena and Dan go, I am happy they ended up together. In my opinion Serena has always loved him from day one. As long as she is with Dan she won’t end up like her mother. Lily is not loyal. As sad as I was she didn’t end up with Rufus, she never really did respect him. I think Serena has respected Dan, which is why I think those two will last a lifetime. As seen from the flashbacks at Serena and Dan’s first meeting, it was clear Serena was already attracted to Dan. Yes, she has made some bad choices, but I think she is more mature than her mother

  • Chair got their happy ending and that’s all that matters! It’s been said lots of times how the major idea that came from Gossip Girl in regards to media and popularity in television was Chuck and Blair so let’s just be happy we got what we wanted! Henry Bass was perfect as well!

Comment by Ashley – December 18, 2012 02:23 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • As far as what she said about Gossip Girl, I completely agree. Up until this season, I didn’t care who Gossip Girl was, I didn’t really think much about it and it wasn’t something I was sure they ever needed to address. I thought it was almost more interesting to think of her has some peripheral character always in the background looking from the outside in. And when you think about it, that is Dan. So there might be some plot holes, but there would have been plot holes with it being any of the main characters, and if it wasn’t a main character it wouldn’t have been a satisfying reveal. At the end of the day, I understand why they didn’t put a lot of emphasis hinting toward Gossip Girl’s identity during the years because that wasn’t what the show was about.

Comment by Pauli – December 18, 2012 02:35 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • So she basically admitted that there are plenty of inconsistencies with Dan being Gossip Girl but DOESN’T want us to suspend disbelief? So we should be annoyed by how much doesn’t line up (like Blair and Dan’s road-trip to find Serena that was fueled by tips from Gossip Girl)? That’s a weird answer.

Personally, I like that Dan turned out to be GG, however it would have been great for it to have made sense in retrospect from the beginning with more focus on suspicion falling on each and every one of them through the seasons, but that’s just my opinion.

  • This woman is a complete idiot -_-. Making Dan GG was one of the stupidest television ‘twists’ I’ve seen in a long time and it makes absolutely no sense. Of course she’s asking viewers to accept that certain pieces of the puzzle ‘don’t fit’ because they don’t! What about all the gaping plot holes this has left, or the fact that Serena basically married her psychotic stalker?

I’ve always liked Dan but come on… You ruined his character with this ‘reveal’ and it goes beyond that; you effectively ruined everyone else too. I haven’t liked Chuck in a long time but it’s like you neutered him! After last season and how driven he was to destroy Dan after convincing himself that Dan was isolating and manipulating Blair, now he finds out that Dan is in fact responsible for this and he just… is ok with it? Um, riiiight… Blair has been just awful this season and the way she’s treated Dan (i.e. betraying him, then treating him like dirt beneath her shoe and acting as if they never happened) has been pathetic, but at least she acted more appropriately than the rest of the characters upon finding out the ‘truth’.

This wasn’t a ‘love letter’ to Serena! What the frick is wrong with these writers! Are you honestly that blatantly and deeply misogynistic!? First you turn Blair into a pathetic, desperate, sniveling victim who follows Chuck (the kissing bandit) Bass around like a puppy and now this? I mean lets be honest, Serena was already depicted as an air-head, the city bicycle, insensitive, manipulative and downright incapable of existing without a man but allowing her to not only immediately forgive Dan’s actions and claim it was really just a ‘love letter’ but end up married to him! The guy saw her at a party once and spent the next six year infiltrating her life and ripping it apart in the most heinous ways. He destroyed his own relationship with her several times (yeah Savage, um, what was the point of that again?) he revealed her deepest, darkest secrets to the world, spread malicious gossip about her and everyone she cared about (remember when Serena apparently had an STD? True love right there guys), he called her irrelevant (among other not very nice things), embarrassed her countless times and lied to her every day for six years (including while he was ‘in love’ with her). This isn’t even counting the things he’s put her through that had nothing to do with his identity as Gossip Girl: He spent an entire year ignoring the fact the she still loved him because he was completely head over heels for her best friend, he was still trying to win that best friend back all of a few episodes before the finale… he used her for sex and then slut-shamed her about it, the book he’d been writing about all of them since meeting Serena depicted her as a shallow, empty air-head while Blair was depicted as the ‘star’ and the girl he’d always secretly loved. For God’s sake… what a frickin catch Serena! Like honestly, you’d have to wade through a lot of complete losers on OK Cupid before landing a package like that. You go girl! Respect.

Anyway, I could write a frickin thesis about how utterly ridiculous this woman, this show and this finale are but what would be the point? Instead I’ll just leave a few questions I’d really like Savage to answer, if she ever had the balls to do so… which I sincerely doubt.

    1. Why did you even bother with Season 5? Because you retconned pretty much the whole thing anyway and you just really upset a huge subset of the fanbase by stringing them along with Dan and Blair like you did. What, in reality, was ever the point of that? Note: You CANNOT say character growth because lets be real, none of these characters ‘grew’ following their experiences in Season 5.

    2. Did you actually stop and think for even a second about how utterly ridiculous making Dan Gossip Girl would be?

    3. Why are you so deeply misogynistic? Do you have any daughters? If you do or if you ever plan to would it concern you if they idolised your characters like Blair and Serena and wanted to be like them?

    4. Why are you so obsessed with Chuck? Like legitimately, I’m honestly curious because girl to girl: I don’t get it, at all.

    5. Why did you hate Dair so much? Be honest, you clearly HATED it because you spent this entire season having the characters (especially Blair) act like it never happened. Did you ever once think it might have been appropriate to give the fanbase some decent closure over the whole thing? I mean you seem very preoccupied with keeping the Chair fanbase happy, would it have killed you to throw a bone? The whole Dair thing is the biggest mystery of all to me, honestly. You spent over a year building it up, beautifully explained how there had really always been something there, finally allowed Blair to legitimately give her heart to someone other than Chuck and be happy. Blair grew as a character, it was so nice to see her a bit more empowered and actually with someone she cared for and who treated her right. All of this, and then you killed it in the most brutal way you possibly could. Do you hate Dair fans? Do you hate kittens? Do you hate flowers and sunshine? I realise this is a compound question, so I digress…

    6. Did you ever consider that making Dan Gossip Girl basically turned his character into a crazy, obsessed psychopath who stalked these people, compulsively lied to them (even ‘practiced’ looking shocked at blasts when they weren’t around, cause he was so committed dammit!). Basically you made Dan a crazy person, and you made every other character either impossibly stupid or crazy as well in allowing them to accept his identity so easily.

    7. Do you hate Blair as a character, like really hate her? I have no idea what other reason you could have for turning her into someone so unlikeable. She was my favorite originally, Serena was so derivative… Now I would honestly drive all night just for the chance to run Blair down in my car… she’s that awful. Why!?

    8. Do you actually think the show you wrote was good? Because if this is all just a big inside joke at the fans expense I think I would actually accept that and say ‘well trolled sir’ to you… but conversely, if you legitimately think you have created a quality story here I am concerned. To clarify, I am concerned for you. Delusions are symptomatic of a number of psychological problems, I could mail you some pamphlets. The guy on the Narcissistic Personality Disorder one kind of looks like Chuck, I think you’ll like it.

      • Apparently someone has a lot to get off their chest. I think the whole post goes awry when they say talk about them retconning season 5. No, they retconned the whole Dair set up in season 5 where fans really turned away. I think you guys need to let it go. Chuck and Blair were the story from the beginning and it wasn’t hard to get

        • Argh, this ‘Dair killed the show’ crap again… seriously? Yes, seriously. I don’t think there’s much point throwing rating trends or anything out there because at the end of the day there is a portion of the fandom that will forever remain convinced that Dair killed the show… even though the decline began back in Season 2 and was at it’s worst in Season 3, but never mind facts.

My issue has never been with the fact that Dair wasn’t endgame, it’s with how it was handled. I agree that Chair was an almighty monster of a thing to go up against and I never really believed Dair would be endgame, but to build it up like that and then to destroy it so maliciously and completely and spend the next season acting like it never happened was awful, and you’d feel the same if it were your couple. I’m not sure what Savage had again Dair exactly that it needed to be that descimated but I suspect there was a personal element to it, because even if Blair was destined to go back to Chuck the fact that she relinquished any previous growth and spat all over her previous (seasons long) friendship with Dan was pretty extreme and out of character.

They did retcon a huge portion of Season 5, not just Dair. What happened to Serena’s ‘character development’ or Chucks dog… or that ‘favor’ Blair was going to owe to Georgina… or whatever Georgina did in Monaco. What happened to Blair’s pregnancy storyline that was naught to be mentioned again? Or the entire royal scandal? (it’s extremely unlikely that Blair would have been able to just fade into obscurity after the events of last season, yet she seemingly did). What happened to Georgina’s husband and kid, they existed in Season 5 land didn’t they? Earlier than Season 5, but still relevant, what happened to Blair not being a designer but a ‘dictator of taste’ and realising she didn’t want to simply inherit her mother’s company, that she needed to find her own way in life? What happened to ‘In between marrying a prince and getting traded for a hotel, I lost myself’ because I don’t think her behaviour in season six lent itself to the notion that she was ‘found’. What happened to the Serena/Blair stuff we were supposed to get this season? What really happened with Ivy, because lets be honest they clearly originally planned more to that story that they dropped somewhere along the line. When exactly did Bart go from neglectful father to full on Darth Vader material? WTF happened with Lily and Rufus? Is Elizabeth definitely Chuck’s mum, is that completely wrapped up? (I’m honestly unsure about that one). Again, pre season 5 but Scott, that was a thing right? What ever happened to him?

And then there are the ‘Dan is GG’ plot holes but tumblr is doing a very good job of pointing those out on their own.

  • Thank you very much for the interview, I am very happy that Chuck and Blair have their happy ending and with their son Henry Bass. All this was the best of the last episode and the marriage proposal, the wedding.
Dan always had many chances to be Gossip Girl but there are too many holes in this revelation, I would have preferred that the writers never reveal the identity of GG for that very reason: holes, and for me also the plot of who is GG? was always irrelevant, the show itself never gave too much importance or sometimes mentioned it but that’s all. The end of Serena and Rufly is disappointing.

  • …I’d like to say that I skipped past the comments from scary “shippers” (of any -air variety), but seriously, the quality of the finale has much less to do with whether or not your preferred couples ended up together, and much more to do with the fact that this abysmal last season (and many of the episodes leading up to it) were poorly planned and written.

It certainly had it’s moments – I won’t deny that I enjoyed several aspects of the finale. But on the whole, this show became a shadow of what it once was, and frankly, I find it insulting that Savage does not seem to care much about the (very valid) questions and issues many viewers had regarding the episode.
I might have been happier with the finale if Savage had been able to defend the writing, but she can’t, and that proved to me that she doesn’t really care about the viewers and had no idea what she was doing the last few years.

    • Savage only became active as EP on the show this half season. Josh Safran left the show a mess — season 5 is seriously the worst season of any show I’ve ever seen. Season 6 could’ve been better, but Savage wrapped things up neat and tidy with a bow. That is all longtime fans really cared about… we’re the only ones who were left watching anyway.

Comment by Liz (@Liz_DrHolland) – December 18, 2012 09:28 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • I agree. Savage was just cleaning up the mess. I mean why do people think Safran left? He sunk the show last year.

Regardless Chuck and Blair were perfection. Loved them

      • I am a “longtime fan”, and although I agree season 5 was bad (even more so in the wake of season 6), I’d rather take the first few seasons of what Safran & Co. gave us than the poor writing Savage & Co. did. And as for what “longtime fans” cared about – I don’t really care if it was tied up neatly, I still think it was bad, and poorly thought-out.

Also, as I said above, I’d be more willing to accept the finale’s shortcomings if the writers weren’t so insultingly dismissive of viewers’ critiques.

Dan as Gossipgirl? That was my guess so I wasn’t shocked nor was I shocked he got off so easy. The guy rarely suffers despite being the biggist troll of them all.

Thanks to Stephanie and the whole crew. I’ll miss Gossipgirl

  • I love how everyone assumes that if you’re not happy with the finale then you’re automatically a bitter Dair shipper. I mean seriously????! SERIOUSLY!

I don’t care how stupid Serena Van Der Woodsen is supposed to be. Telling everyone that Gossip Girl was kind of like a love letter from Dan to her???? Seriously?????????????? That’s like a shark jumping over a beached shark! He tore Serena (and his own sister) to bits on Gossip Girl. He took invasion of privacy to some of the lowest levels imaginable.

Someone needs to get Stephanie Savage a black t-shirt with “Um… Nope” stamped across it in big bold white letters. The fact that she gave that as a response to Ausiello’s question regarding whether or not we should ignore all the inconsistencies, tells us a lot. When the writer/executive producer throws their own series under the bus it makes you wonder if you’re watching one of the worst series on television. Don’t even get me started on her reasons for putting Lily with William.

I can appreciate the episode in comparison to the rest of the season but it was still quite the contrived piece of crap most of us not wearing “Chair” goggles have ever seen. The cameos were the best part of the episode. Ivy got the shaft.

I’m tired and hopefully I didn’t come off too immature. I’ve followed this show from beginning to end, never giving up despite being given so many reasons to. I deserve to complain a little!

  • Wow! I’m new to this whole thing, but these Dair vs Chair posts are crazy! Both sides are pointing fingers at each other and saying hurtful things. And it’s the same things over and over and over.

Chuck & Blair hooked me on the show, and I wouldn’t have watched without them. Frankly, I skipped most of Dan & Blair, so I don’t really have an opinion about them. But I don’t appreciate being told I like abusive relationships cause I like Chair. Sorry, that’s not true and insulting.

If people want to watch the show blindly to only find evidence of Big Bad Chuck, it’s your prerogative. But I, for one, think the show has given Chuck the most growth and story out of all the characters. He’s done horrible things, no Chair fan I’ve seen has denied that, but I tend to look at his bigger picture. He’s been a really really great friend and BF through the years too.

Dan being GG, and basically a stalking psychopath? It’s cool. I think it’s silly for the writer’s to claim they knew it from the beginning, or even season 3, or 4, or last week – cause the plot holes are MAJOR, but I’m not going to dwell on it. I’ve never been the biggest Dan fan, but it kinda made me like him more. He’s just as crazy as the rest of them. Welcome to the UES!

Overall, I really liked the finale. It was fun and tied up everything nicely.

  • I absolutely loved the finale, esp Chair’s ending. Was just perfect and so right. Blair has become a powerful woman running her own company, just like her mother, while also having the happy family with an adoring husband & son. Chuck has become the husband & daddy his father never was. Henry is the perfect name and I can’t believe how much he looks like the both of them. Great casting. I loved all the little looks & touches from CB throughout. Ed & Leighton really do these so well. Having only 10 eps to undo all the damage from S5 was an impossible job but SS did a great job in giving everyone the right ending.

  • Chair, dair! The show’s over. The actors have moved on, the showrunners have moved on, I think it’s high time these shippers move on also. Go find some new couples to cheer for. No one will win, each one will have a different opinion about who should end up with whom so what’s the use of all these arguments? It’s getting annoying! Get over it!

  • Can’t we just admit the show started sucking because the writers are bad? Starting in season 2 the characters were written consistently out of character, plot lines were started and stopped suddenly (like Serena and Dan’s brother which still makes their relationship weird) and instead of any real character develop they decided to go for bizarre plot twists (Bart coming back from the dead).

It has nothing to do with ships. I’m a Chair fan and I don’t think Dair ruined anything. It was the way that they handle it and the often cringe worthy dialogue that often went along with the Dair/Chair storyline.

  • I don’t understand why all the craziness. It’s over, accept it. I was sad Lily and Rufus didn’t end up together but I understand the reasoning. It does make sense that Dan is GG since he is a writer. And he said it best when he said he help all the power. He helped make them who they are because of GG and they thrived in their lives. The only thing I didn’t think made sense was Lily ended up with William, I mean he fathered a child with her sister.

  • Dan being gg makes sense in several ways:
1.Season two finale,Serena asked GG to meet her and Dan showed up
2.The manner of writting GG indicated a writer,a scholar, someone smart
3.He posted stuff about himself to take suspicion off him
4.Like Nate and Sage said,it had to be someone thier age or no more than a year or two younger, someone who knew them, whod gone to school with them, whod been in NY(because he knew them and was in close promity, hed see and hear or be told juicy stuff)
5.Bart called Dan”chronicler of Manhattans elite”
6.He tore them down the way they_specially Chuck &Blair_tore him down to be equal. With the power of GG,he got thier attention and respect
7 Dan once said”I wanted to be on the inside, maybe more than Jenny”
8.Noone suspected the “nice, deccent, moral, ethical guy “of the group & by the end,he was a member of thier clique they trusted him so who better to betray them?

  • First potential loophole I could think of: When Dan was dating Serena’s English (?) teacher, he was unaware that the teacher was in fact the person who sent in the tip about Blair or something. After he found it out, he was enraged and broke things off with her~ If my memory serves me correctly, that would be a hard situation to explain away.

  • I thought it was a poor decision to make Dan Gossip Girl since there are too many inconsistencies with the idea. Having Nelly Yuki be Gossip Girl would have made much more sense as to seeing she was tortured by the upper east side; especially Blair. Needless to say I was disappointed that they made Dan Gossip Girl.

And I thought making Lily reunite with William was a poor decision people shouldn’t be together just because of children. I didn’t think there was love there; at least not from her.

I loved all of the references to Serena/Dan especially him looking up at her in both the flashback and the wedding; lovely throwbacks to the first season.

I highly enjoyed chatty and awkward Dan; it was nice to see the kid who never met a word he didn’t like. :)
