On TV this Wednesday: St. Nick adds to the naughty goings-on at American Horror Story, the Heck family celebrates a Middle-class Christmas and Nashville sings its last note for 2012 – but there’s plenty of musical fun happening at The Grammy Nominations Concert Live! As a supplement to TVLine’s original features (linked within), here are 10 programs to keep on your radar.
8 pm The Middle (ABC) | Reverend TimTom casts Brick in a holiday play and asks an overzealous Sue to bake cookies for the event. (I’m sure nothing will go awry there, right?) Norm MacDonald returns as Mike’s brother, Rusty.
8 pm Whitney (NBC) | After Alex admits faking it in bed, Whitney decides they both have to ‘fess up about past lies; a new bartender (recent cast addition Tone Bell) draws Lily and Roxanne’s attention.
9 pm The Hour (BBC America) | Hector is arrested on suspicion of assaulting Kiki.
9 pm Law & Order: SVU (NBC) | A prostitute (Medium‘s Patricia Arquette) from one of Benson’s old cases becomes crucial to the FBI’s hunt for a killer, so the SVU teams up with the lead federal agent (Jason Gedrick, Dexter) to save the woman’s life. TV vet Anne Meara also guest-stars.
9 pm Criminal Minds (CBS) | Matthew Gray Gubler directs an episode that finds the BAU investigating a ritualistic killer while Reid freaks out about possibly meeting his mystery woman.
9:30 pm Suburgatory (ABC) | George’s Christmas present to Tessa — a trip to New York, to hang with her mom (returning guest star Malin Ackerman) — might be a gift she’ll wanna return. And yeah, this is the episode where Ryan finds out he’s adopted. Saturday Night Live alum Tim Meadows also guest-stars.
10 pm The Grammy Nominations Concert Live! (CBS) | NCIS: LA‘s LL Cool J and Taylor Swift host this run-up to the Grammys (to be held Feb. 10), with performances by The Who, FUN and others.
10 pm Chicago Fire (NBC) | When Mills’ emotional reaction to seeing a young victim nearly paralyzes him at the scene of a train accident, he doubts his future as a firefighter.
10 pm American Horror Story: Asylum (FX) | A very bad Santa — played by Deadwood‘s Ian McShane — arrives at Briarcliff, and Arden can’t believe what he sees in the Death Chute. Happy holidays, everyone!
10 pm Top Chef (Bravo) | Watch out for the flying fish! The contestants hit Seattle’s Pike Place Market, where they encounter rare ingredients they’ll need to use in the elimination challenge.
