Martin Short to Host SNL's Christmas Show, With Paul McCartney as Musical Guest

Martin Short will go home for the holidays when he hosts Saturday Night Live‘s live Christmas show.

The former Not Ready for Primetime Player will return for his third hosting stint, NBC announced Tuesday. In addition to his film career, Short’s TV credits include WeedsDamages and How I Met Your Mother.

Paul McCartney will join Short for the former Beatle’s fourth appearance as a musical guest.

The episode — not to be confused with SNL Christmas, a compilation of the series’ holiday sketches airing Wednesday at 9/8c — will premiere Dec. 15 at 11:30 pm.

As previously reported, Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained) will host the Dec. 8 SNL with musical guest Ne-Yo.

Ed Grimley would be quite exciting, I must say!

  2. Alex says:

Probably won’t top last year’s excellent Christmas episode with Jimmy Fallon as the host…but it should be good, at the very least!

  3. Jo says:

Jimmy Fallon should have done it again.. this season has been pretty bad…. Excited for Paul not Martin :(

  4. erin says:

Short’s TV credits also include The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That ;)

  5. Sara says:

I love Short, he’s great with conedy & drama

  6. Jason says:

If McCartney sounds as awful as he did on his last SNL appearance, this will be bad.

  7. MJ says:

If anybody from SNL monitors this site, here’s a suggestion. It would be great if SNL would do a new “Jackie Rogers Jackpot Wad” sketch! The sketch from 1985 is a cult favorite and considered one of the best sketches EVER! Bring Mary Gross, Billy Crystal, and Christopher Guest back for cameos!

I hope we see a return of Nathan Thurm. Did I just say that? It’s funny you think I said that.
