What to Watch: 5 Web Series Worth Checking Out

The Guild Felicia DayThis week, Scott Wolf (Party of Five) throws a dinner party to show off his new beard, a well-timed political satire makes its debut, and Wolf’s Po5 boss Amy Lippman pens a new series about a daughter managing the emotions that come with watching her parents age. Plus, The Guild is finally back in all its geeky glory with brand-new episodes.

Sunday Dinner With… | In the debut episode, Wolf invites friends, family and a camera crew over for a Sunday dinner party. Two things we learn from the gathering: Scott has an adorable dog with a lizard-like tongue, and Kelley (Scott’s wife and former Real World cast member) was nearly a hour late for their first date. All appears to have worked out well, as she is pregnant with their second child.

Ruth & Erica | Lippman writes and directs this series about a daughter’s (Maura Tierney) struggle to care for her aging parents. Steven Weber (Brothers & Sisters), Lois Smith (True Blood), Philip Baker Hall (Modern Family), Michael C. Hall (Dexter) also star. Very nice to see Lippman back in the fold!

Ground Game | Gavin, a campaign director for a Des Moines mayoral candidate, works hard to support his well-intentioned, yet seriously awkward boss. The Iowa candidate is played by Randall Park, a.k.a. Asian Jim Halpert from last week’s episode of The Office.

The Guild (Season 6) | Season 6 begins with Codex (Felicia Day) landing her dream job as an assistant to the creator of The Game. While she has the support of The Guild, all the shoulder pads in the world could not protect her from her indecisive, maniac boss.

Nashville: On the Record | Already can’t get enough of ABC’s Nashville? This web series features behind-the-scenes interviews with cast, songwriters and producers of the show.

  2. Aj says:

Is it just me or does Sunday Dinner With sound a lot like Jon Favreau’s Dinner for Five? Or is there some other twist to it?

Dr. Fubalous is the funniest thing I’ve seen in ages! There are only 6 episodes so far but I can’t wait to see the next in the series. It stars a lot of internet “sensations” as well as Flava Flav and Danny Trejo doing some of their funniest work ever. I found it looking for the hysterical Coleen Ballinger. As much as I adore her Miranda Sings character it was great to see her have the opportunity to show off her talent outside of that box.

  6. Missy says:

This isn’t exactly a web series, but The Walking Dead has a great 4-episode webisode on the AMC website.
