Ratings: Shark Tank Premiere Nets a Series High, Top Model Does Perry Well, Touch Is Faint

The Season 3 premiere of ABC’s Shark Tank made a splash on Friday night, besting all comers with the series’ largest audience ever (6.3 million total viewers) while matching the demo rating for its sophomore opener.

In fact, ABC, facing little competition, swept every hour, with the 20/20 season premiere (6.1 mil/1.8) earning the night’s best rating.

Of Friday’s other original programming, Tyler Perry Presents: Tyler Perry’s America’s Next Top Model: Tyler Perry’s College Edition (1.5 mil/0.7) drew this cycle’s largest rating and matched its largest audience, while a leftover Season 1 original of Fox’s Touch was more like a graze, delivering under 3 million viewers and tying Top Model‘s 0.7 rating. (Touch Season 2 doesn’t open until Oct. 26.)

COMING NEXT FRIDAY: On the broadcast networks…. well, nothing new. (Syfy’s Haven returns, though!) Come Sept. 28, Fringe kicks off its final run and CBS’ dramas make their season debuts.

  1. Okay, am I the only one who noticed that, other than Victoria, only the black models were prominently featured in the ANTM challenge with Tyler Perry? And best of all, OF COURSE, a black model won the walk-on role. I’m not trying to sound racist here, it was just hilarious. :D

    Good for Shark Tank, BTW.

It’s not a surprise Touch was faint. I’m not sure how you would know it was new since all the info out there said it doesn’t start again until at least October. The only reason I got it was I have a pass on TiVo. I noticed that after one of the shows NBC started this week as well-Join us for new episodes in two weeks! If it weren’t for TiVo I probably would watch a lot less tv because trying to keep up with shows that air so inconsistently would be more trouble than it’s worth.

It was the fourth season premiere of Shark Tank.

  4. Donna says:

I didn’t understand the Touch thing, either. Every fall TV premiere guide lists season 2 starting end of October, but my DVR kept insisting it was a new episode, so I taped and watched it….and thought I either had a really lousy memory or it was, indeed, a new episode. So…what the hell was that? I didn’t know until reading this article that it was leftover from Season 1. Wtf?? Why??

  5. Gerald says:

Glad I watched Touch. It is always great to see. Don’t know why it didn’t air sooner. I believe the storyline connected to the first episode with the Dad that lost his daughter. Now we got to see the wifes prespective. Great writing tying all these plots together. Hope the poor ratings is not indicative of the rest of the season.
