J.J. Abrams Sells Robot-Cop Drama Pilot to Fox

Book ’em, C-3PO.

Fringe cocreator J.J Abrams and showrunner J.H. Wyman have received a pilot production commitment from Fox for a futuristic police drama, Deadline reports.

RELATEDFringe Final Season First Look: For Etta or Worse!

The concept follows the Los Angeles Police Department in the near future, when all officers patrol alongside lifelike androids.

The highly sought-after project will be produced by Warner Bros. TV and Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions. Wyman will write the script, and he and Abrams will be two of the show’s executive producers.

The commitment comes as Fringe enters its final season and another Abrams endeavor, Revolution, prepares to launch on NBC.

At the moment, the buddy cop pilot doesn’t have a title. May we suggest Good Cop, Bad Robot?

  1. Remember Mann and Machine? Cool show.

  2. Theo says:

‘Good Cop, bad Robot’ had me laughing because of the Bad Robot pun… Cheesy but funny.

  3. Boothgirl says:

Can we get Sheriff Cater and Andy to star in this show?

  4. dvmom says:

JJ could sell ice to Eskimos!

    • Jason Logan says:

But only if they’re Inuit (a member of the Innu first nation). Eskimo was a word we picked up from the northern Dene tribe & means roughly “dirty Indian”. So it’s a term of abuse like the N-word tho most Americans haven’t caught on yet. But as time goes, there will be a blowback from the frozen tundra and you may get an Eskimo Pie in the face.

  5. midas42 says:

    Or Fry and Earl…

    Mac and C.H.E.E.S.E.

So it’s a Robocop meets Mr. Data? I’ll watch.

J.H. Wyman is the reason I’ll be giving this one a chance…it has potential. Happy for him, too.

They should call it…I, Bad Robot.

  10. ElfOdin says:

Will Harlan Ellison get a creator credit? (Read “Brillo”, if you don’t get that reference.)

    Cop Rock (1990) – LOL

  12. Michael says:

    How about “RoboCop: The Series”

  13. nick1372 says:

This looks weird, but I will check it out because JJ Abramas is the greatest creator/producer in the history of TV.

  14. DTK404 says:

Get ready for a lot of “I don’t trust you. You’re a robot.” “What makes humans so human?” “Hey, you saved my life. Maybe you’re not so bad after all.” Also copious story lines showing how robots have the same problems as humans. “I didn’t know robots could get high.” “There’s a lot you don’t know about a lot, human partner.”

  15. Roofoo says:

Sounds like Total Recall 2070 to me, another show with great potential that ended too soon.

  16. Sheldon W. says:

See also: Future Cop (which I believe Ellison may have actually sued on behalf of himself and the co-author of ‘Brillo,’ Ben Bova…

  17. Danielle H says:

Well it’s a new idea to me at least and I think it sounds good. I just think JJ has WAYYY to many pokers in the fire though!

  18. Delirious says:

Fry and Bender: Hardly Private Eyes.

… shut up and take my money!

  19. Jake says:

What if we take the first pun & switch it up:
    Bad Cop, Good Robot or
    Cyborg 5-0 or Cyborg Blue

  20. Kev says:
