Ratings: DNC Opens on Par With RNC, Breaking Bad's Big Finale, Strahan's Strong Live Debut

It was business as usual this Tuesday, with America’s Got Talent dominating regularly scheduled programming in total viewers (albeit dipping 10 percent to 8.6 million, according to fast overnights subject to change).

The penultimate episode of Fox’s MasterChef, though, scored the demo win, holding steady week-to-week at 6.5 mil/2.7. Hell’s Kitchen matched its Monday-night numbers (6.1 mil/2.5). Both shows finale next Monday.

Elsewhere on Tuesday: Prelim numbers indicate that the broadcast networks’ coverage, at least, of the Democratic National Convention: Night 1 was on par with last week’s opening of the RNC, though the former seemed to grab a few extra eyeballs and a sliiiightly better 18-49 number. Check back later for finals. Unless I get busy.

In other ratings news:

* Breaking Bad‘s midseason finale on Sunday night drew 2.8 million total viewers, with 1.7 mil landing in the 18-49 sweet spot — marking gains of 47 and 37 percent versus Season 4’s finale.

* Monday morning’s debut of Live! With Kelly and Michael scored a 3.9 household rating/13 share in the U.S. metered markets, marking a 44-percent surge from last September’s average and the show’s second-highest rating since Reege left.

Call me a Curmudgeon, but did you have to use the photo of that annoying off-key wobbler?
How about some dogs that have much more talent? :)

Oh, fine — the rejiggered LIVE! is the bigger story anyway.

Hi Matt. I’ve got nothing to add to the conversation here, just wanted to say hi. Thanks for all the great work you guys do at the TVLine office.

Which off-key warbler’s picture did you replace? I assume somebody from AGT…maybe the little kid who sings the flamenco music? I’ll be nice b/c he’s a cute kid, but not a fan of his music and I hope he doesn’t go to the AGT finals.

  2. Rick James says:

I Just wanted to say that I have watched my lasr America’s Got Talent. The dog act should never made it to the Finals. Our country made a big mistake voting for dogs over humans. William Close was without a doubt the most talented of the finalist.
