Blind Item: Hit Drama Planning X-Rated Treat – Will It Make It Past the Censors? (Warning: NSFW)

As the saying goes, “I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream.”

But this October, fans of a certain hit drama will probably be screaming for a splash of cold water on their faces after they witness what goes down between one of the show’s randier couples — a hook-up so racy, it almost didn’t make it to air.

Allow me to set the scene: Ice cream parlor. Lovers on a date. Each enjoying a sundae. The male half of the pair reaches under the table to, ahem, melt his partner under her dress. He then takes that same hand and dips it in her sundae. And finally, the frisky female laps up a spoonful of the “tainted” dessert.

Hot fudge, indeed!

As you can imagine, this is where the road gets rocky. Standards and Practices at the unnamed broadcast network initially balked (though, were the tryst to play out on a pay cabler like HBO or Showtime, no one would so much as blush). Eventually, I hear the debate escalated to the highest office at the network – the forward-thinking president – and the scene was OK’d. (Of course, anything can change between now and the airdate.)

Now, while the series in question has pushed the envelope before, sexually speaking, this incident is still bound to raise eyebrows. But should it? After all, the broadcast networks — competing as they are with the likes of Game of Thrones, Dexter and Boardwalk Empire — have been getting racier for years (and years). Wasn’t it just a matter of time before they leveled the playing field? And should the network prez be lauded for having the guts to do just that?

Oh, and while you’re you’re busy discussing whether greenlighting the bit is smart business or evidence of moral decay, perhaps you’d also like to take a stab at guessing the identity of the couple in question?

hell – is there still a standards and practices?

  2. For some reason Grey’s Anatomy jumped into my head. There are a lot of sluts on that show! And am I the only one that is getting more concerned that the networks keep pushing the envelope more and more? I think this is one of the reasons why the world is going to hell. They push and push to make people get used to it and before you know it, it’s “normal”. And before you know it, no one has any morals anymore. Just because it’s “normal” doesn’t mean it is appropriate or right. I think the head network guy is awful for approving it. I am tired of hollywood pushing their low standards on society. They are such poor examples for the world.

    • vondie55 says:

I totally agree with you!!! Where are some limits?

      • I’m glad someone agrees! I love replies like, “don’t like it, don’t watch it.” Um, ok. It’s like basically saying I don’t have the right to an opinion. These types or the ones that have loose morals. I’m just sick of it.

        • TigerNightmare says:

You can just as easily not watch something that has the S in a TV MA rating. That’s what it’s there for. But don’t tell anyone that it just shouldn’t be on the air because you personally find it distasteful. There’s always averting your eyes, which is what I do when someone vomits on reality shows. Never again, Fear Factor!

          • Dwight says:

Exactly what I thought and when people say what if children see it my response is parental controls have been put in every TV made in the last 15 years if you don’t want them watching anything over TV-PG then you can control that. Just because the content doesn’t line up with your “delicate sensibilities” doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be on the air. I’ve always thought that line of reasoning incredibly narcissistic; I don’t like the content of this program so therefore it shouldn’t be on the air, the millions of people who have no problem with it be damned.

        • Bender says:

yeah baby loose morals is the way to go wooohoooo

        • Alichat says:

Wow Tricia….thanks for all the gross generalizations and the excessive judging.

    • Tina says:

Don’t like it then don’t watch it.

    • moobear says:

There has always and will always be people like you, who are sure that this latest envelope push is the one that is going send us to hell and bring about the second coming. I’m sure your type would of complained about how dare Mary Taylor Moore wear pants. Jeez, you religious types might want to remember that during the Dark Age, and with waves of the plague sweeping through and every third person you knew dropping dead, probably felt a little more like the End Times, then a randy ice cream scene on TV.

      • And all these replies just prove my point.

        • moobear says:

That you and your type live in a fantasy world, where only now we have loose morals. I hate to tell you this, but historically speaking there were more brothels in more towns then we have today, and while we have Ladies of the Night still, they’ve been pushed to the further out reaches of society, when before it was pretty accepted that some men were going to pay for it and everyone knew where they went to get it. In ancient Rome, it was acceptable to toss your unwanted newborn in the city trash, there was even a favored one, so those ladies there were certainly loose with their morals. Get over yourself, in all of my historic studies, there is plenty of evidence of all the sins we have today as something our forefathers had. Even in the clean cut 1950s there were plenty of teenage pregnancies, a racy TV scene isn’t the end of the world.

        • JULES says:

I like that you speak of morals but have no trouble calling someone a slut!

  3. Flaw says:

Serena or Georgina and someone else on gossip girl. They already tried to be shocking and “pushed the envelope before, sexually speaking” with the threesome that ended being lame. It´s their last season and shock value is all they have left basically.

  4. Rrrrrr says:

It’s obviously going to be the Good Wife guys. It’s been known for these really out there sex scenes before, and the writers always brag about how te give S&P a hard time. This is right up their alley. Id say Kalinda and her husband, or maybe Carey and someone.

  5. AnnH says:

    Revenge ?

  6. Amber says:

Seeing as how ABC is owned by Disney I highly doubt it will be an ABC show. CBS seems to allow slightly raunchier stuff so I would guess them, or possibly CW.

  7. anthea says:

I think it’s the good wife, it will be ok while isn’t Peter and Alicia.

  8. Lyss says:

Tony and Ziva from NCIS (:

  9. anon says:

Don’t have a clue which show, but I just hope it’s not one I watch. That’s not something I want to see simulated on my TV screen.

  10. vondie55 says:

I find the scene as it is described utterly disgusting. Why do show creators push for scenes like these? Instead of delivering character driven storylines they feed viewers with sexually explicit scenes. I guess ratings are the primary goal.

  11. Pepper says:

Why doesn’t this male “taint” his own dessert?

  12. Lou says:

I see a lot of votes for the Good Wife. Has anyone considered that it may be a new show, like “666 Park Avenue”?

    • Diva says:

No, because it says they have done something like this before; therefore, NOT a new show. Someone was right, this has to be a 10pm spot because 8’s and 9’s can’t get away with this stuff but 10’s have a chance. Thus, my vote is The Good Wife. Peter going down on Alicia, Kalinda playing the fiddle down below with FBI Agent. Nuff said.

  13. Philsy says:

    Lou Grant?

  14. Em says:

The Good Wife’s Kalinda and Nick…final answer! I bet that it is even the teaser scene from the promo

  15. brian says:

Could it be Miranda (Bailey) and her boyfriend on Grey’s Anatomy?

  16. Gene says:

Read this article just to see what boundaries the networks are pushing this time. Yes, my thoughts were justified. I think it is horrible that network television would do something like this. There is no reason for it. Cable and satellite television already provide borderline pornography in the attempt to make “realistic” drama or other shows. There is no need for this on network television. Bad move in my opinion.

  17. CMart says:

Given that the blind item mentions a ”forward-thinking president”, that just suggests to me someone who is relatively new to the position. Since NBC and ABC both have had recent network presidency changes, I\’d have to say it is a show on either of those 2 networks.

If that is indeed the case, The Good Wife, as many have mentioned, would be out.

  18. Becks says:

I’m betting either Char/Coop or The Good Wife. The whole one of the show’s randier couples thing makes me think Char/Coop. I mean does TGW even have “couples” really?

  19. Tricia says:

My problem with The Good Wife is that I can’t see any of the characters just hanging out in an ice cream shop.

  20. Dwight says:

I’d say it sounds right up the alley of Californication but then I remembered it comes on Showtime. Nevertheless whatever Drama it is better get ready for protests from the buzzkill “Family” groups out there if they get permission to air the scene.

  21. Tina says:

I hope it is Wiil & Alicia on Good Wife, although Kalinda & anybody would be good too. Zoey and Wade on HOD would do this too!

I hope this is happening on one of the shows I watch. Love that networks are finally taking a chance to push past boring censors

  22. Roughrider says:

the clue was ‘raise eyebrows’ It is Dallas with JR”S eyebrows.

    • Brandy says:

TNT is a cable channel, not broadcast. I’m guessing Gossip Girl as it sounds like a young couple doing this and that this scene is aimed at a young audience, plus according to producers Chair is “gonna get steamy in monte Carlo”.I could see this as something Chiar would do, plus with the threesome, the bad word names for Chuck(mother chuker, bastard, bass hole)& the OmFG campaign for season two, I could see it cause GG pushes the envelope.Plus Mark Pedowitz seems to be “forward thinking”-pushing back premirere dates for fewer hiatus, trying to revive old shows, saying heavily serialized shows should be only be 13 episodes, renewing terribly low rated shows, plus he’s always saying how it’s not the ratings that count to determine a shows future but international revenue ect matter and how CW shows do well digitally/online ect.

  23. becky says:

Well the only shows that I watch and think something like .. That can cappen on would be The Vampire Diaries or Gossip Girl.. But its definitely a tough question. How will we know which show it is? When will you tell us?? :P

  24. holly says:

CW . is for kids so nope not them… NBC tries like crazy but still not foward thinking….CBS only when moonves grows wings and flies. ABC?well probably Grays or PP

  25. bonnie says:

This definitely sounds like private practice.

  26. madbengalsfan85 says:

Doubt it’s Castle, seems well out of character

Considered Bones for awhile based on a DB tweetpic of BDSM toys in-show (Also, Ice cream sex has been hinted at before) but I can’t see them going this route…too racy for HH

I’m thinking Greys Anatomy, Good Wife, or a CW show

  27. RD says:

I’m guessing Revenge.Plenty of steamy sex opportunities there.

  28. Ceecile says:

The Good Wife. The only one I could see doing that on the show is Kalinda. With her husband maybe, doing some power play. idk
But that doesn’t sound hot at all to me. Sounds more like bad fanfiction, something out of 50 Shade of Grey.

  29. Sammy says:

Revenge. After surviving the plane crash, Lydia will beg Conrad to come back to her and eat the ice-cream to prove that she will submit and never betray him again. That or Serena (GG) and whatever two dimensional guy she’s obsessing over this season….or imagine if it Lord and Lady Crawley!

  30. Airin says:

What about NCIS? We got a lot of Tony/Ziva hints…

  31. David S says:

    It’s Glee.

    • Alicia L. says:

It would never be Glee, their demographic is too widen and it caters to kids to some extent, so no and that show has never shown anything more than kissing and an occasional off camera grope. The most they ever showed was in Season 1 when they flashed back to Quinn getting pregnant!

  32. Bob says:

In what world would the vampire diaries considered raunchy, srsly? People must be mistaking it with True Blood. Plus, considering the finale was about Elena becoming a vampire, It really wouldn’t make sense for a scene at any part in the episode picturing said scene, no matter which protagonists you pick for this.
    My guess is : PP

  33. ktbanks says:

It simply can’t be Vampire Diaries. Everybody knows the only place to eat in town is the Grill! No ice cream parlors in sight! haha

  34. Babybop says:

This better not be on Vampire Diaries. Especially since I don’t buy any of the girl characters being racy enough to do that… Just no. My first thought was Good Wife, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Gossip Girl.

  35. Olivia says:

There was a threesome on The Vampire Diaries? I started watching it through Netflix and haven’t seen the last half of Season 3, but I can’t remember a threesome? If it happened before the last half of Season 3, can someone please remind me of who it was?

  36. tahina says:

The Good Wife. They have the must suggestive sexy scenes tv ever had to offer with Alicia and Will or with Peter,(and Julianna is great on those) lets not forget Kalinda and Lana(Ohh boy!). Definitely TGW. :)

  37. sara says:

    My money’s on GA.

  38. em says:

Sounds like The Good Wife. Kalinda/anyone sounds reasonable to me.

  39. Daisy says:

My first though was Nikita, but no way CW would allow this. I think it’s The Good Wife or Private Practice.

  40. irishdreaming says:

    probably Sons of Anarchy

  41. sam says:

So, we know it’s on the big 5 Networks (yes i know CW is tiny but still counts) and it’s a hit drama.
The Good Wife fits this so well with a pairing of Kalinda with her ex or Cary… The article says a “randier-couple” so most certainly not the main couple of the show. So no Alicia/Mr. Big. But bosses Les Moonves & Anne Sweeny don’t come across as ‘forward thinking’.

Revenge didn’t really have an extra hot sexual episode. Maybe the video tape one but… Ok, Network boss Paul Lee is ‘forward-thinking’ too.

SUV has had shocker (crimes) episodes ‘sexually speaking’ but not sure it’s was that much. But It’s prezzy Bob Greenblatt is ‘forward-thinking’ (with that i understand more experimental)

Gossip Girl and TVD have surely been interesting but it doesn’t fit.

Am goind with The Good Wife!!

  42. Mafalda Neto says:

My guess is Gossip Girl or 90210. I just don’t see adult characters making this kind of scene.

  43. Betsy says:

She takes a spoonful of the tainted ice cream? It would be much hotter if she licked his fingers. Here’s hoping it is Kalinda and someone, preferably Carey, on TGW!

  44. sawyerf8 says:

I got no idea which show it might be, but I hope this will be the first step to convert Network to be more brave and bold with this stuff. I mean come on, I’m not saying they should go as far as Cable, but most of the TV Shows could go further than they usually do…
And I definitely wanna see the scene, even if it’S something I don’t watch

  45. CrimTV says:

And CW show (apart from Supernatural and Nikita), my best guesses are Vampire Diaries or Gossip Girl.

  46. Nelson says:

    Ok MABE Buffy and Angel?

  47. Elyse says:

I doubt its a CBS show. The president of CBS “forward thinking”? LOL.

  48. cjeffery7 says:

good wife, vamp diaries, or long shot greys anatomy.

  49. Ashleah Youn says:

Are Sweets & Daisy still together on Bones? They’re pretty randy.

  50. yuka says:

greys anatomy….maybe karev & new girl friend
