It's (Sorta) Official! Michael Strahan Named Kelly Ripa's Permanent Live Co-Host

Michael Strahan Live With KellyLooks like Kelly Ripa can finally cancel her Google alert for “Notre Dame football” and replace it with one for “New York Giants.”

Ripa, who’s been the sole permanent host of Live With Kelly since Regis Philbin stepped down last November 18, will have an official partner in crime come Sept. 4 when she’s joined by former NFL star Michael Strahan on the season premiere of Live With Kelly & Michael, TVLine has confirmed.

A whopping 59 different men and women joined Ripa behind the Live desk following Philbin’s departure, but in recent weeks, the list of serious candidates was narrowed down to three: Strahan, SNL vet Seth Meyers, and classical singer Josh Groban.

Strahan’s Live duties reportedly won’t affect his role on Fox NFL Sunday. The news was first reported by Broadcasting & Cable.

I would have preferred either Nick Lachey or Josh Groban, but I haven’t really seen any of Michael’s episodes that I can recall. I’ll try to check it out on the 4th and decide then.

I liked Joel McHale. He is so funny…They need someone like that!!!

  3. sue says:

I watched this show for many years…tell Gilman he needs to change things up a little…Its getting rather boring, but what do I know the tv big shots don’t care about my age group. So I guess I will just find another show. Goodbye Kelly

  4. Terri says:

Not a fan of this decision. I will watch NBC during this time slot…

  5. Mike Kleid says:

I remember when Regis first moved to NYC.
I worked for a friend’s hard wood floor repair and carpet cleaning business who does many stars’ floors in the NY/NJ area, because he is a “serious” born again Christian he never bragged about the stars or bothered them for autographs and the stars liked that (he thought the stars should ask him for “his” autograph, for he was a good Christian)…
Anyways, he would never tell us before we did a stars home, and we did McJagger’s apt building’s hallways, etc…so back to Regis…
In his apartment house the elevator goes right to Regis’s home, there is no hallway…
The doors open and he let’s us into the apartment…and I looked at him, and he looked so familiar…but I couldn’t think from where…his wife Joy was in kitchen drinking coffee, and actually both Regis and his wife were both really warm decent people, it’s not an act…i worked in Hollywood for a large studio later in life and believe me, many are so phoney, but the Philbin’s were nice, warm, non-pretentious people…ok, back to the story…
So i was young, and a little star struck back then, and Regis walked up to me to ask me a question wearing a long robe sipping coffee and I looked at him and said “Oh, wow, I’ve seen you on TV, you’re Casey Casem, right”? He smiled at me and looked down at the R.P. initials on his robe he must have received as a gift (for he was not pretentious) and said “No, but my name is Regis, my pleasure to meet you young man, and your name is?”…I said “Mike” and then he put out his hand to shake mine, and he didnt act insulted or brag about his “tv work”, he just smiled and continued to ask me the question he 1st came over to ask me…a really a nice regular guy who just happens to be very talented in his field.
The funny thing is, on one of his 1st episodes after coming to NY he showed a bunch of “before and after” photo’s of his apartment home, like for example the kitchen and bathrooms were redone, etc…but he never showed the hardwood floors or the carpet…but he did say at the end of that bit, “and I happened to find some really good floor guys”…I wished only he mentioned the Casey Casem comment I made…it was too funny.
I am sorry to see he left his show (yes, HIS show).

Oh, in my above comment I missed the point…
Many people can co-host kelly well, it depends on Kelly as well.
You might not agree now, so just wait to see how things turn out…
He might not be acting “jockish” like some of you woman might think, he might be the teddy bear type many of you woman like.
But kind and funny to read these comment’s “outing him” prematurely…
Who knows till he actually does several shows, and i say several because he may be nervous as a host which is different then just being a guest, the actual responsibilities and other stress can change his personality…so make him feel welcome, stress free, and theeeen let him do his thing…all of these negative comments you make prematurely is one of the reasons many of you couldnt do this job…you’re just too harsh.
Just because u couldnt get the puppy you wanted as a kid, did u hate the puppy you did get or did u learn to love it more then ever!?!
The worst thing though that could happen is if Kelly in her mind thinks as most of you think, for nothing will kill that show faster then those two bumping heads because, both, Kelly didnt want him and because he doesnt think anyone wants him as well, so he’ll over compensate and not be his relaxed self.
I hope it goes smooth, why hope for anything different?

I do not want to watch a sports announces/professional athlete in the mornings. I get this all weekend, which is fine. But not on my weekday mornings. I always looked forward to the first 20 minutes with Regis and a cup of coffee. Now I CANT STAND first 20 minutes. I turn the channel and don’t turn it back unless there is a guest that I like. Jerry O’Connell, Nick Lachy, Josh Groban, Sam Chamption would have been much better choices. Sorry Michael. You are a great guy, just not my morning cup of tea.

  7. Gerry says:

I wish it was Josh Groban. I was really disappointed to hear it was Michael. But I’m still watching even though it doesn’t feel the same
