2012 emmys best comedyHalf of the 2011 Emmy nominees for Outstanding Comedy Series were unceremoniousy snubbed from this year’s race. And yet while there’s reason to kvetch for fans of Glee, Parks and Recreation and The Office, those omissions opened up the category for a pair of HBO newcomers — Girls and Veep — plus Emmy vet Curb Your Enthusiasm, a fellow HBO comedy that scored its last prior nod in 2010.

Back in the race again this year are Modern Family (which is going for its third straight statuette), 30 Rock (enjoying its sixth consecutive nod, with wins in 2007, 2008, and 2009), and The Big Bang Theory.

  • Friends will always be the best comedy, everything else doesnt even comapre. Comedies are just full of cliche and unorigial these days, not to mention not fun at all.

    • Not even close to being the best ever. M*A*S*H, Cheers, Taxi, All In The Family, Golden Girls, were all better than Friends.

  • I can’t believe Community and parks and Rec weren’t nominated. I’m glad that Modern Family and Veep were nominated as they are both hilarious. The Big Bang Theory is a steaming pile of dung and is not worthy of ANY awards. It is a painfully unfunny show. Girls is more slice of like funny than laugh out loud funny. Comedy does not necessarily mean “ha ha” all of the time. It a show that is askew of normal, yet is utterly relatable. That makes it a comedy.

    • Yikes, TBBT is hilarious and there is at least one huge laugh out loud moment per show! TBG is okay, but I don’t feel it ranks up there with Parks or Community which both should have been nominated!!

    • I agree with this so much! Community and Parks and Rec are the best! Veep is also really good…Modern Family’s season was not as good as its first two but I still understand why it got nominated. The Big Bang Theory is so bad.

  • Parks and rec, community, and happy endings are great shows. They have their best seasons this year. But even these shows were nominated, i think Modern Family is still gonna win. The only thing that bugs me is Girls, this show is barely funny. And i think julia and larry deserve to win for their acting but not the show.

  • I didn’t vote.

    Why?

Awards are stupid. But they’d be less stupid if they went to the right people.

  • I do not understand the poularity of The Big Bang Theory, or 2 1/2 Men either, frankly. They are painfully unfunny to watch. Actually, every comedy on laugh track ridden CBS is unfunny.

  • look honestly, The most deserving show (Louie) is not even nominated. then 2nd best show, parks & rec is also snubbed. then the 3rd best show, Community, is criminally neglected. so considering the fact that the top 3 comedies of this season aren’t even nominated, its really a matter of which of these 6 is the best, instead of
    which is the best comedy.
30 rock is waay past its prime, and doesn’t deserve a nod. Girls is overrated, and frankly, a little annoying. Curb is still funny, but Its too old a show to win.
That leaves us with veep, Mf, and Tbbt.

Veep I think is too new and edgy to win, so It’ll come down to Modern family and The Big bang theory.
Considering Modern family had a so-so season, And The Big bang Theory had one of its best, My vote goed to Big bang theory.
