DirecTV Customers Get Back Their MTV and 16 Other Channels as Viacom Dispute Is Resolved

Teen wolves, Awkward high schoolers, the world of Futurama and, sure, even The Exes were returned to the homes of DirecTV subscribers on Friday morning, as the dish service resolved its dispute with Viacom.

The parties’ new long-term agreement restores 17 channels — including MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET, Spike and TV Land — that had gone black for DirecTV subs on July 10.

In addition, DirecTV says customers will also gain the ability to watch Viacom programming “on tablets, laptops, handhelds and other personal devices” via its DirecTV Everywhere platform.

“We are very pleased to be able to restore the channels to our customers and thank them for their unprecedented patience and support,” DirecTV EVP Derek Chang said in a statement.

  • Wonder if DirecTV’ll ever get the ‘Epix’ channel. Miss not being able to catch Paramount films on the other pay channels like HBO or Starz.

  • So the rest of us without DirectTV can’t watch it wherever we go-I’m assuming Viacom’s online content is gone?

    • Netflix still has it. I’m not aware of it being an exclusive deal (which I doubt).

  • Now they just need to run a marathon of the episodes of “Awkward” and “Teen Wolf” that aired!

    • You could watch those on MTV’s site. And MTV usually does quite a bit of repeats for Teen Wolf and Awkward.

  • So they took of 26 channels and restored 17. Which channels aren’t coming back?

Comment by Chris – July 20, 2012 10:22 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • They’re all back. The 26 network count is due to Viacom counting standard and HD feeds seperately.
