What to Watch Sunday: Weeds' Smokin' Premiere, New Episodes, The Glades’ Food Fight and More

On TV this Sunday: Weeds and Episodes, how we’ve missed you; The Glades goes gourmet; there’s a pretty (smart) new face in The Newsroom and True Blood tries burlesque on for size. Here are 10 programs to keep on your radar.

8 pm Oprah’s Next Chapter (OWN) | Oprah sits down with NBA Champions LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh of the Miami Heat.

9 pm The Glades (A&E) | When Jim finds the owner of his favorite food truck dead in its kitchen, he lands in the center of a political battle between gourmet food trucks and boardwalk restaurants. In related news, I suddenly find myself with a hankering for the street meat sold outside the TVLine offices. Be right back…

9 pm True Blood (HBO) | Sam’s shifter friends invite him for a run, Sookie opens up to Alcide, Eric and Bill don’t know whether they’ll survive the search for Russell, and Andy and Jason go to a burlesque party.

9 pm Drop Dead Diva (Lifetime) | Jane’s in for some royal pains when she represents a young woman who wants to get out of an arranged marriage to a prince.

9 pm Falling Skies (TNT) | Someone steals Ben and Hal’s bikes, and the search to retrieve them leads to the discovery of something much bigger. Elsewhere, Matt’s in danger and Weaver is reunited with a family member. (Get scoop!)

10 pm Weeds (Showtime) | As scooped by Ask Ausiello, Nancy is rushed to the hospital in the eighth and final season premiere, and she fights for her life while her family and friends wonder who the heck pulled the trigger. Who do you think did it? Hit the comments with your wild speculation!

10 pm Longmire (A&E) | Walt’s on the trail of a “dog soldier,” a legendary Cheyenne warrior (who’s actually probably a scuzzy sex offender who’s kidnapping foster children). Read about Season 2 and get scoop!

10 pm The Newsroom (HBO) | Mac attack! Will’s new executive producer takes charge and brings in Sloan Sabbith (Olivia Munn), a smart, hot on-air economist, to do a nightly segment. Ooh, and “a long-festering breakup secret gets out.” I know the show’s only been on for a week, but seeing as how we’re already tossing out ideas about Weeds’ gunman, who do you think the unhappy Newsroom couple could be?

10 pm Army Wives (Lifetime) | Hector’s guilt gets in the way of his reconciling with Gloria, and Roland and Joan wrestle with whether or not to report Marcus to his parole officer. Veep’s Anna Chlumsky guest-stars.

10:30 pm Episodes (Showtime) | Season premiere: Sean and Beverly get ready for the Pucks! series premiere, and Matt deals with the consequences of his sexual misadventure (while having a new one fall right into his lap).

Which of the above is must-see for you? Also, hit Comments to offer your own tune-in suggestions.

  1. Goober says:

Nancy’s (technically) step-son is out for revenge!

  2. Mel says:

OMGOSH I absolutely loved the Pilot of The Newsroom. I have missed quality Aaron Sorkin on my tv screen, so glad he is back.

  3. wordsmith says:

re: the Newsroom break-up speculation, it’s (I’d say rather obviously) going to be about what happened between Mac and Will – the pilot reminded us several times in the rapid-fire dialogue that they were an item and it ended badly. I think the dirty secret will be that it was her fault, not his.

    • Marco says:

Not much of a secret, since it was heavily implied throughout the pilot, especially with Will’s hostile behavior towards her.

  4. Jlulu says:

Episodes is such a great show unlike that vapid piece of crap “friends” this show is actually smart and funny Weeds is also great sadly this is last season

  5. Janneke says:

Season 2 of Episodes is amazing so far!

  6. rebecca says:

Sad it’s the last season of Weeds.. but the show has not been the same since they left Agrestic & Celia Hodes left

  7. Nick says:

    The Great Escape

  8. Templar says:

I’m going to give Endeavor on Masterpiece Mystery [PBS] a try. I’ll watch the Glades later, and I’m already over Longmire. To me, it’s just a police procedural in a western setting, and I don’t find the cast engaging at all.

  9. DanielleZ says:

Been waiting for Season 2 of Episodes.

  10. Brandy says:

Drop Dead Diva, gymnastics Olympic Trials

  11. Petra says:

LOVE what I’ve seen so far of season 2 of Episodes! They’ve really pushed these characters, and there’s a lot of heart mixed in with the funny stuff.

  12. Allison says:

Must say, I will be watching the Olympic gymnastics trial finals at 9

  13. Britta Unfiltered says:

“…(while having a new one fall right into his lap).” Ha. Having seen the first episode, I see what you did there. Funny stuff.
    .
I watched the first episode of Weeds online last night. Maybe it was the sleeping pill I took before I watched it, but I wasn’t greatly impressed. I should probably watch it again, but at this point, Episodes is by far the better Sunday night show between the two, I think.

Sloan Sabbith…WTH, is she supposed to be a porn star??? And did they have to ruin my favorite 80s name? I can’t stand Olivia Munn ever since she pulled the oh-so-classy move of showing her vagina on the cover of Maxim. (Am I getting kicked out of the TVLine Congress now?) I dunno though, I’m trying to remember as much as I hate her, she never ruined Perfect Couples for me. I always loved that show, so maybe she will not ruin The Newsroom for me. I maintain Marisa Tomei would have been so much better for this role.

    • Lynne says:

Marisa Tomei was slated to play Emily Mortimer’s role, not Olivia Munn’s. If that’s what you are referring to…

  14. tim says:

Man what took so long to see some new Episodes?! If they aired it earlier, matt leblanc would be a shoo-in for finally getting an Emmy.

  15. ggny says:

The Weeds premiere was TERRIBLE. Seriously lame plot twist

  16. A says:

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDS!!!! Hopefully they make this last season a good one. And of course True Blood.
