What to Watch: The TVLine-Up for Friday

Get More: Previews, What to Watch

On TV this Friday: Rob Lowe discovers his presidential roots, Nikita‘s trap comes unhinged, the latest Grimm creature isn’t so Ángel-ic, Blue Bloods tries to plug a leak and more. In addition to TVLine’s original features (linked within), here are nine programs to keep on your radar.

8 pm The Finder (Fox) | Just call Walter the Horse Whisperer as he helps Isabel’s friend uncover who murdered her racetrack aficionado father.

8 pm Nikita (The CW) | It’s mo’ money, mo’ problems when Nikita, attempting to trap Percy, convinces Birkhoff to sing to the tune of 20 million dollars. After a failed hacking and an arrest, the team splits up, trying to recover the stolen money and talk a walk in Birkhoff’s shoes. Check out a video of the action!

8 pm Who Do You Think You Are? (NBC) | At the nation’s capital, Rob Lowe is literally shocked after discovering his ancestors were connected to George Washington and the Revolutionary War. P.S. Next week, the series climbs the family tree of his Parks and Recreation co-star, Rashida Jones.

Felicia Day Previews Her ‘Awesome’ Supernatural Gig, Eyes Game of Thrones, True Blood

9 pm CSI: NY (CBS) | A wave of brutality threatens a small community when a body is found dismembered and strategically left on four street corners. (This may or may not rival Dexter‘s Ice Truck Killer.) Days of Our Lives‘ Molly Burnett and The Chicago Code‘s Billy Lush guest-star. (See an exclusive video of tonight’s episode.)

9 pm Fringe (Fox) | The teams on both sides fight on for a common cause, and there are shocking developments tied to the Cortexiphan children. Oh, yeah — renewed!

9 pm Grimm (NBC) | While Nick investigates a dead construction worker with ties to a long-standing conflict in the creature world, the prime suspect (Dexter‘s David Zayas) sends reapers to eliminate the Grimm once and for all.

2012 Renewal Scorecard: What’s Coming Back? What’s Getting Axed? What’s on the Bubble?

10 pm Blue Bloods (CBS) | Danny and Jackie realize there is a leak in the task force while protecting a Russian mob witness; Erin is asked to be deputy mayor, which would have her working directly with her father.

10 pm In Plain Sight (USA Network) | In order to clear her name, Mary will have to lose her FBI surveillance tail and track down her vengeful father before anyone else does.

10 pm Magic City (Starz) | Mike Strauss’ body is seized, Ike reacts to a break-in, and Victor plots to get his wife out of Cuba. Vera secures Jackie Kennedy for a charity event but laments not having children with Ike.

  • WHY did they cancel In Plain Sight???? :(

Comment by Kim R – April 27, 2012 06:26 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • I’m not certain, but it seemed it was less a cancellation than it was the people involved deciding they were done with the story. (That’s been the spin they’ve given it, at any rate.) And I, for one, would much rather see the story wrapped up the way the writers want it than for it to limp along for another four or five years. Besides – fingers crossed, Mary McCormack gets to be back on our tvs in the fall!

Oh, and I’m with Grimm and IPS tonight – just a general commercial, but I hated on Grimm when they were talking about the pilot (L&O/SN mashup, etc.) but I am very glad I gave it a chance – it may not be The Best Thing On TV, but it’s good and it’s fun and it makes me smile, and I look forward to next season!

      • that’s weird. I’ve heard the opposite. ‘In Plain Sight’ was canceled by USA and the actors/writers/crew would have kept going with it for another season at least. But I feel like ‘In Plain Sight’ didn’t match USA’s image anymore. It was one of their first original shows, really smart, really funny, kind of dark, but still good. Now they have all these bubblegum shows (Royal Pains, Fairly Legal, Suits, etc…) and IPS, which even dumbed down like it was after season 02, is still one of the smartest shows on the network…so naturally it had to go. My opinion, anyway.

  • I’m serial-marathoning West Wing episodes right now, which forced me to read the opening paragraph as Rob Lowe was appearing as the president on Nikita. But WDYTYA is interesting; maybe I’ll finally check it out this week.
