House Series Finale Shocker: 'Everybody Dies'

Get More: Exclusive, News

If you were thinking House might check out next month with a big burst of sunshine and happiness, it’s time to readjust your expectations. Newly-obtained intel about the series finale all but confirms that the swan song will be as dark and twisty as Hugh Laurie‘s titular medicine man himself.

Sources confirm to TVLine exclusively that the May 21 capper is titled, “Everybody Dies.”

The morbid epithet is a fitting bookend to House‘s eight-year run, seeing as how the 2004 pilot was called, “Everybody Lies.”

It’s also likely to intensify speculation that the show’s final arc will find the doctor becoming the patient.

Season Finale Guide: Spoilers on 55 of This Season’s Big Finishes

In a recent interview with TVLine, House creator David Shore — who co-wrote and directed the finale — described the hour-long send-off as “a fitting ending” that will feature “a few” of the show’s alumni (Olivia Wilde’s Thirteen included) reprising their roles.

Speaking of Wilde, TVLine has learned that the actress’ return engagement has been expanded to two episodes. In addition to the finale, she will also appear in the penultimate episode on May 14.

  • I think the title isn’t telling you that people are dying. Everybody lies, it’s just a part of life, just like death, and what it will probably be is House having trouble with the concept that he one day will no longer walk this earth, perhaps from someone else’s death.

    • I hope not. That was so bloody predictable. It would follow the pattern of ripping off other shows and movies House has become infamous for.

No doubt House died during the original leg surgery and he’s been doing the Bruce Willis thing ever since. Amber and Kutner finally get him to realize that he died on the table after they amputated his leg.

  • I wanted to care when I saw MA’s tweet but can’t bring myself to. Last season’s finale did it for me. That after 7 years House was still the same self-absorbed, self-indulgent sociopath he had always been was too much. Running a car into a house with people inside and a baby (even if the baby was supposed to be somewhere else, that is no excuse) was not amusing, or dramatic; it was disturbing and very disappointing. I have not watched this season and have not missed it at all. It was time to close this chapter in television. I will just remember the good times of the earlier seasons, you know, when it was still enjoyable.

    • Not watching this season is your loss. It was very good and House was his least “self-absorbed, self-indulgent” self. This way you only have 7 seasons to remember!
I find strange that you enjoyed House at all since you only saw him as a “sociopath”.

      • the big problem with season 8 is that there was no dramatic arc and emotional eps, dead and buried is my favourite but it’s not enough to say that this season is good, we had even more dramatic events in season 7 which was also the worst of this show, even here in France we are disappointed about the huddy storyline, so poorly written, audience is not the same as the previous seasons, House in love and storylines about relationships are not interesting in this show and fans just stop watching it.

Comment by djesus – April 19, 2012 11:01 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • He is only a sociopath. Hope you never get a doctor like him. The character has a god complex and Wilson made a good observation about House’s unwillingness to believe he can make a wrong decision. Considering how many wrong decisions he make every episode that should give him a clue. I liked the pilot because she reached a point where he had to prove his decision was the right one after so many wrong ones.

        • Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply that you knew about MASH, but it is a direct ripoff of it and based on recent House, I could see them doing it. MASH series finale was one of the most watched shows on the planet. Ripping it off would be pretty lame and show a huge lack of creativity.

Expect it was Kutner’s twin that killed himself and Kutner has been in hiding for some lame reason, maybe cross reference the WitSec show that’s also ending this season. His suicide was a joke. There was no decent explanation on the why. Probably the twin Kutner was going to do something and there was a fight and the twin died. Because of why twin Kutner was trying to kill him, he opts for WitSec.

Amber’s body was wheeled for some CIA, which has already been on the show, experiments. She goes all zombie and comes back after House in the manner of the Reanimators.

  • I loved the character of House until he drove his car through Cuddy’s dining room and then I was so disgusted with him, I wasn’t sure I could watch the show again. I did return this season and there were some good episodes at the beginning but the writers seem to have lost their way now with the ending in sight. Despite being turned off by the character at times (hooker storyline again?), I don’t want House to die in the finale…..that would ruin the whole series for me. I don’t want to give up my passion for the early seasons when House was a more dignified and likable character.

    • Vasia Cy We know you think you are an expert on everything Lisa Edelstein but really, do you believe everything you hear? All those “facts’ you keep quoting are nothing but rumors & misquoted “interviews”. You read things on Twitter written by other Lisa haters & believe it as a fact when no one knows anything about why she left & she has said nothing to reputable sources. Everything you keep quoting is rumor started on Twitter by you & other LE haters and soon you guys don’t know fact from fantasy. Some hater says LE said or did something & you guys pass it around, change the rumor/lie into something you like and soon you all believe it as fact. I’ve read your pathetic conversations on Twitter. You guys spend hours tearing down someone you don’t know or know anything about with made up facts or speculations from other people who hate her. If she is so unimportant, why do you spend hours and hours talking about her here and on Twitter. As for Hugh Laurie? You guys act like because you are fans that you know his deepest thoughts & talk about him as though he’s someone you know personally. You act like you know how he would react, feel, respond, what he would believe. You guys take everything you read as a fact and sometimes distort it to make it say what you want it to say. You guys seriously need to stop with all the hate and all the “facts” you either make up or distort to fit what you want to believe. It’s the worst kind of hate and rumor mongering. It’s the worst kind of fan also. HL has said many times how crazy some of his fans are which is why he avoids them as much as he can.

      • I think you will find this is a two way street, there has been plenty of hate and rumour spewed out by the fans of LE in the direction of basically anybody and everybody associated with House. They also seem to spend more time obsessing about what other actors/actresses say in interviews than what she says herself or any of her new work. In the past she has commented on frightening fanatics. Personally I don’t think you are respecting the actor/actress you support by hurling abuse at their past/present work colleagues. Dont lower yourself or the person whose work you admire by doing that.

      • The truth comes out. Before Amber died, they were had a one-night stand before getting on the bus. Wilson finds out and House’s Vicodin are switched with some a bit more lethal like 18 pints of Coca-Cola. Watching House die, Wilson asks how could he and why did he continue to sleep with Wilson after doing it? The House-Wilson sub-text has been there for a while now. The reason 13 came back was because she’s the third in their menage-a-trois, or fourth if you count the hookers or House’s fake wife.

  • The show has been dying for a while. I still watch it but nowhere near as regular, but it started dying about halfway through. It’s only gotten worse the last few seasons and it is overdue to die. What was a great series has been turned into a joke.

What should be more disturbing is that are so many doctors like House. They do what they think it is in the patient’s best interests and give little or no informed consent. Worse is patients who blindly accept what doctors tell them without asking for more information or doing independent research. Don’t expect that doctors will tell you the truth on some things.

I lost interest after House tried murdering Cuddy and co. It’s pretty much been repeating itself a lot lately and I agree about the movie rip-offs.

  • House and all of the staff are arrested for numerous ethical violations, huge malpractice lawsuits, the hospital is closed due to allowing all of these illegal and unethical practices.

Chase is killed by friends of the dictator he murdered after his ex spills the beans out of guilt (she doesn’t have to be on the show for this to work). Which is better for Chase than dying from some weird plastic allergy and infection from the doll.

Thirteen is arrested on additional charges related to the death of her brother and her prison buddy. She dies in prison from HD.

Taub is killed by a hit person (Yi) hired by his ex-wife’s husband and her brother). Yi is killed by, and kills, Adams on the way to kill House, but only after Yi founds out that she’s pregnant with Taub’s baby.

House is killed by a number of people (a la Murder on the Orient Express), starting with Cuddy (again no need for her to be on the show), Foreman (for losing his new job even though it is his own fault for allowing House to do all of those things), the potato spud boy, certain cop who made his life miserable, certain ex-donor. That’s a good start.

  • I used to adore ‘House” and his weird and wonderful ways of getting though his own pain (the kind pills can’t dull) and those of his patients. I was even able to tolerate his acts of unkindness towards others because he is only a fictional TV character and because the show was incredibly well-written and fascinating. However, the writers have not listened to the fans or even their own common sense because not only have casual fans turned away but even hard-core fans like myself have first lost interest in the show and now finally want ” House ” to end. Not only are the same old hateful statement repeated weekly out of his mouth about those who, if he were to think about it, pay his salary ( his “idiot, moronic” patients); but even to those who actually DO sign his paycheck! And as for his supposedly high intellect you would think he’d come up with better words than racial slurs, sexual innuendo and calling everyone around him some schoolyard version of a cruel name for someone of low intelligence… Please don’t call me a hater, because I am not. This is out of disgust for Shore and the others who took a great show and destroyed it! “House” had the potential to go on for years more IF the script-writers hadn’t added so much that wasn’t necessary and maybe took risks that allowed the characters to grow. Oh and listening to the fans is always a good idea…; ) … Look, we may disagree on who we like or dislike on the show but when a show is about to be taken off life support and few are overly disappointed– even the brilliant mind of Gregory House isn’t needn’t to solve this case of Good Show Gone Bad.

House could just lose a patient, which didn`t happen for already a long time and decides to quit medicine and start his “physic works” with his new wife Domenica :)
We only could speculate, but I hope for a better ending, which satisfies divergent public and has an open end.

  • Wilson killed by House to save him from the pain of cancer, then House starts a killing spree at the hospital. All the regulars die horrible deaths as a result. House get the lowest ratings of its life.

Numerous real life fans kill themselves because “you can’t handle the truth.” And you can’t handle living without your weekly Vicodin fix.

House dies in a blaze of bullets like Justin B.s character on CSI/Vegas.

Cameron and Cuddy make last minute appearances to urinate over House’s grave. Then, House pulls the old hand comes out of the grave while they are doing it and the show ends.

How many of you are silly enough to think that House won’t end with a lot more new unanswered questions than it has now?

I actually think House will probally just give up practicing medicine and seeing as Wilson has cancer he will probally die (bad, bad, not nice I loved Wilson)

  • I’m sorry to say that I believe they’re going to kill off House himself. He’s going to commit suicide. That’s about as dark as you can get. It’s all been leading up to that fact if you’ve really watched the last few episodes. He can’t survive without Wilson and now that he has to go back to jail and miss Wilson’s last five months it’s even more clear where this is going.
