Fox Renews Glee, New Girl and Raising Hope — Is Fringe Next?

Get More: Renewals

Fox is jumping on the early renewal bandwagon, ordering a fourth season of Glee, a second season of New Girl and a third season of Raising Hope.

“Over the past season, New Girl has become the hottest new appointment series for young adults; Raising Hope has established itself as one of the smartest and most unique offbeat comedies on television; and Glee has continued its success as a genre-defying, global cultural phenomenon,” said Fox president Kevin Reilly. “All three of these comedies add a fresh and distinctive flavor to our Tuesday nights, and I’m really happy to bring them back to our air next season.”

Still no word on the fate of bubble series Fringe, Touch, Alcatraz, Breaking In and The Finder (which just saw its audience halved by the move to Fridays).

TVLine’s 2012 Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect the pickups.

  • Fringe is NOT next. It needs to die already.

    • Actually it probably is. Sorry it’s too smart for you to understand.

    • Don’t get nasty with each other. What’s the point? One just has to wonder why ‘CJ’ feels so strongly about a TV show that the person would take the time to post a message. Your comment speaks more about you than the show, for most people just wouldn’t comment about a show they don’t watch.

  • I’d like to see Bones back on Thursday. Touch is becoming very same ol same ol every week and its boring and predictable, I’ve just eliminated it from my DVDR list

  • Okay now Fringe for a final season and Fox will make me very happy. They are the only shows I watch on Fox.
Just waiting for the CW renewals now!

  • I was actually expecting all these TV shows to be renewed. But I think Glee’s season 4 will be its last. The show’s gone downhill. It just got weird and unrealistic and not funny and complicated (in a bad way).

  • Fringe is really in an odd sort of situation here.

If it doesn’t get a final 13, and gets cancelled after four seasons, it will be going out on a still-creatively-strong-enough note to it feel like it was cut off before its time. Although this season wasn’t as as strong as the 3rd season (which wasn’t as strong as Season 2), it’s definitely still creatively alive. And for it to disappear abruptly will leave a feeling of dissatisfaction that may well leave the show with a smoldering longterm cult fandom. Which is not a bad thing and may produce interesting future opportunities.

If it does get a final 13, former viewers who drifted away may very well check back in to see what becomes of it all. And I am pretty confident the writers will keep their even hand on things and write a rousing but likely open-ended ending.

  • With the exception of Glee, New Girl and Raising Hope are the definition of moronic American comedy. They should be classified as tragedy. Zoe Deschanel must have done special favors to get on television i think she is the worst actress i have ever seen. If Americans find dumb comedy funny then maybe Americans need better stimulation and education. Some people say our society is dumbed down and shows like these on the air getting renewed is proof.
