Happy Endings Preview: Penny Makes Jane Pregnant! Max and Dave Pimp Out Alex!

Get More: Previews

This Wednesday night, in the penultimate episode of Happy Endings Season 2 (ABC, 9:30/8:30c), a pair of special guests evoke not the best of behavior from Penny, Max et al.

For starters, you have Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) popping up as Daphne, a childhood friend of Alex and Jane’s who Penny was never particularly keen on. And when Penny is trying dodge you, things can get… complicated.

“Basically, Penny just lies instead of telling the truth, so she creates a very specific, elaborate lie to get out of it — and then she tries to get her friends to uphold all these lies,” Casey Wilson tells TVLine.

In this instance, Wilson says the flurry of fibs “grow to the point where Jane and Brad are having a baby, so we’re throwing a fake baby shower” to cover Penny’s tracks.

Meanwhile, Max and Dave have their hands full when their landlord, Darren (played by Bridesmaids‘ Ben Falcone), begins bugging them about their active “social” lives.

“He’s horny, and upset that there are guys and girls coming out of our apartment pretty frequently,” says Adam Pally. “So he wants to get in on the action.”

What are Max and Dave to do, to turn their landlord’s frown upside-down? “They pawn off Alex onto him,” Pally reveals with a laugh. And what’s in it for Alex? “Money,” Pally says plainly. “Food.”

Alex and Darren, obviously, aren’t the most obvious match, though. “No, they aren’t,” Pally concurs. “So you’ll have to watch to see what happens!”

  • I really love this show! Took a couple episodes to “gel” the first season, but the cast really grew into their roles and it works nicely now.

  • They also filmed another episode about kickball that it looks like they’re saving to air over the summer. Kinda like in season one when they had an extra episode they aired in the summer.
