TVLine Items: Eva Longoria Joins Marc Cherry Pilot, Showtime Offers Early Premieres and More

Eva Longoria has joined Marc Cherry’s ABC drama pilot Devious Maids — but there’s a twist!

The Desperate Housewives star will be a major player behind the scenes on her longtime boss’ new project, hopping aboard as an executive producer.

Based loosely on the Mexican telenovela The Disorderly Maids Of The Neighborhood, Cherry’s series centers on four Beverly Hills-based housekeepers (played by Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Judy Reyes) with big dreams of their own.

  • A show with Hispanic leads and they had to be maids? Rme. Cherry’s perception of women is terrible so I can expect a lot of stereotypes from this, right?

    • Actually it has nothing to do with Cherry’s perception of women. Did you miss the part that said it’s based off of a Mexican telenovela?

      • Um, he’s still the one writing it and like you said, BASED OFF, not exactly word for word. Also, because it’s based on, doesn’t mean they’re going to stick with the Mexican telenovela storyline. And since he is the creator, it has EVERYTHING to do with his perception. Next.

        • Responding in a rude, condescending manner does not mean you won the argument.

        • first of all ou dont have to be rude about it and second I prefer it to have all latin women because 1 it is based on a mexican novela and 2 we need more shows with latin leads so I am very happy the way this pilot is coming out so if you have nothing nice to say, just dont say anything at all.

          • Not to mention that a show about maids in Southern California which didn’t star hispanic actresses would be incredibly unrealistic. Hispanic maids may be a stereotype, but it’s also reality.

      • It’s actually based ON a telenovela, not off it.

    • And this is why he hired Eva Longoria to EP the series. That way, he can get away with the whole stereotypical-ness of the series.

    • I haven’t seen her act, but I have seen her present her product line on Home Shopping, and I think she has a good chance to be believable as a lawyer. She has a relatively serious, intelligent, and charming personality–not at all what one generally expects from a pro athlete.
