Scoop: Rome's Ciarán Hinds Cast as Sigourney Weaver's Ex in USA's Political Animals

Ciaran Hinds Sigourney Weaver Political AnimalsCiarán Hinds is moving from ancient Rome to modern-day America in USA Network’s upcoming drama Political Animals.

Debuting this summer from executive producers Greg Berlanti (Dirty Sexy Money) and Laurence Mark (Jerry Maguire), the six-episode D.C.-based project centers around newly-appointed Secretary of State Elaine Barrish (played by Sigourney Weaver) balancing both personal and political crises.

Hinds will play Bud Hammond, a jovial former president (and Elaine’s ex-husband) who was once loved by the American public, but whose out-of-office antics caused a tumble in his popularity. He still holds a candle for his wife, and eagerly awaits the call to become her elder statesman.

As previously announced, the cast also includes Lone Star‘s James Wolk and Gossip Girl‘s Sebastian Stan as polar-opposite twin brothers, Brittany Ishibashi (Ghostfacers) as Wolk’s fiancée, and Carla Gugino (Entourage) as a journalist hellbent on destroying Barrish’s career.

Hinds was previously seen on TV in Rome and Above Suspicion. His impressive resume also includes Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and The Debt.

Only 6 episodes? That’s even shorter than British shows.

Plus he would need to shave the mustache, I can’t see a president with a mustache these days.

    • I think Ciaran had a moustache in Burnt By The Sun at the National Theatre and also in Juno And the Paycock. He is normally clean shaven, so I am sure there will be no issues with whatever is required. I will just say that Ciaran is just about magnificent in anything he turns his hand to and he is without one of our finest actors. He will bring ‘Class’ to this production with a capital ‘C’!
Just watched him in the Oscar winning Short film The Shore which was wonderful. I would go out of my way to see him in live theatre. I will be watching out for Political Animals! Go Ciaran!

I’m sorry if it’s been mentioned, but has USA scheduled when this show will premiere as far as a specific date and time? Or is it too soon? It sounds fantastic! I don’t want to miss it.

    Very interesting! ;)

  4. The cast for this show just keeps getting more amazing! Why is it only six episodes?!

  5. wooster182 says:

OH HELL YES! I adore the awesomesauce out of Ciaran Hinds and Sig. Weaver. Can’t wait. Wish it was more than six freaking episodes!

  6. Jimmy says:

This mini-series (because you can’t call 6 episodes a series) sounds better and better. Also a little outside the box for USA’s usual cookoe-cutter format.
