Supernatural First Look: Misha Collins Is Back - But Something's Different!

Supernatural fans, mark your calendars: Misha Collins returns in the March 23 episode — but will he be playing Castiel?

Supernatural First Look: Sam/Dean Vs. [Spoiler]

Desperate to save his brother Sam, who’s suffering from a Lucifer-induced mental breakdown, Dean seeks help from a healer that looks a lot like his old pal Castiel. As executive producer Sera Gamble previously told TVLine, the angel won’t be back “in exactly the form you’ve seen him [in] before.” (A moment of silence for the trench coat, please.)

Oh, and he’s not the only familiar face in the following photo gallery! Check it out and then hit the comments with your thoughts on Cas’ big comeback.

Noticed Misha’s Cas isn’t wearing the signature trench coat, but hopefully that will reappear as time goes on. I’m just so excited he’s back!! Trench coat or no trench coat!!

  2. Fran says:

I am so excited for this episode – not only do we get Castiel’s return, but we get to see the culmination of Sam’s Lucifer storyline.

  3. Clare says:

SO EXCITED TO HAVE CAS BACK! It hasn’t been the same without him and I hope very hard he’ll be in S8 too. :-)

  4. Zenobia says:

~squeals~ I’ve been looking forward to this episode for months! I’m so excited to see what happens with Castiel. Thanks so much for posting these awesome photos. :)

  5. Fates3 says:

Woot! The boys are back together again, as it should be!!! So much love for seeing Dean and Cass together again! I can’t wait! I hope they bring him back full time next season, Dean needs his best friend by his side again!

  6. mgb says:

Misha has definitely been missed by the Supernatural fans. Hopefully he doesn’t disappear on us again!

    • tia says:

he was missed by some spn fans not all. and not missed by the majority. at least the angel part. that character had worn out his welcome. it took the focus of the show off the brothers relationship. the show suffered for that. hopefully they don’t make that same mistake again. the show is about the two brothers. lets keep it that way.

      • Janine says:

Without any doubt at all he’s been missed by the majority of fans. This season has really shown how badly his character is needed. Yeah, Cas is back!

      • Clare says:

Yippee! It’s fantastic to have the show about THREE brothers back. I can’t wait to see Cas back where he belongs in TFW.

      • Dash says:

I have to say I agree. I was always fairly neutral on Castiel but the 6th season was really not great because so much of it was about Cas and not enough was about Sam and Dean. I don’t understand how they go from the 5th season finale, which has one of the most moving moments of brotherhood I’ve ever seen on television, to the boys barely interacting and Cas is just there all the time. The flow was off. I don’t have the crazy passionate Cas hate that some people do but I have been ok without him around.

      • Dee says:

Totally agree with your comment tia.

Castiel was missed by some, not all.

There is no need for an angel in this world. Especially an angel that has no powers…what will he be good for otherwise?

The show is still about the ONLY 2 brothers. Yes, there are only 2. (If you want to get technical, there is also Adam, but he is long gone).

Do not want Castiel back. Screw him, he betrayed Dean and broke Sam.

      • Dilys says:

Please don’t speak for the vast majority of fans. You may not have missed him but many, many have. I know so many people who have stopped watching the show or just catch it later, giving ratings to other shows like Grimm or Fringe since Cas was ripped out of the show. We have missed Cas and we are beyond thrilled to have him back.

        • Sally says:

IMO the majority can live with or without Cas.
The loud minority either loves or hates him.
And that minority is the 10% of fandom that’s online.

          • Wendy says:

Where, exactly, did you get that 10% figure? Please don’t make up statistics. Most of the people I know (those who complain online and those who don’t) miss Cas.

          • Sally says:

            @Wendy
I made a guess cause fandoms rarely have more than 10% (which in itself was a very generous estimate) of their viewers online or even that invested in a show. Just think about it, there are about 1.8 million viewers just in the US, and Spn is way more popular internationally than in is in the States. So do you really think there are more than 180,000 Spn fans online posting, cause for that you see way too many familiar faces (so to speak) in the comments, on forums and blogs.
And about the Cas issue. I wrote my opinion (that is what IMO means), which I based on people I know in real life that do not really care that much if Cas returns or not (or for how long he stays). They mainly watch for the monsters, funny one-liners and the brothers kicking ass. Everything else is just a bonus.
But there is not really a way to see what the “majority” thinks, not even the online one as a whole. For example only about 2000 voted in the poll on SpoilerTv, so either there are less fans that I guessed or they just do not care/know about it.

      • Smiles says:

Dang tia could you not be such a downer.
And in my own opiniom…I SO EXCITED THAT CAS IS BACK=)

      • Lou says:

I’m always confused when I read a Supernatural spoiler thread and it invaraibly devolves into I love watching XXX but hate XXX. Pretry sure the MAJORITY of the fans enjoy all of the popular characters- that’s how they become popular. You don’t hear a lot of outcry for the return of, oh I dunno, the lameness that was Eve or Grandpa Dochebag. Everyone I know who watches/used to watch Supernatural wanted Cas to continue to be a regular cast member. Same with Bobby. Dean+Cas +Sam+Bobby+Kripke is the secret formula to Supernatural. Throw in a dash of Crowley, Papa Winchester, Ellen/Jo, and the Trickster and I’m a super happy fan.

      • Art says:

Bro you don’t speak for for all supernatural fans I would love to see cas back full time he I like supernatural without cas but love it with cas

  7. Shelly says:

Yawwwwn dislike his character not excited to see this and where’s the pics of Sam in the loony bin that’s what I was excited for.

  8. Jenn says:

Yay, Meg. Can we kill her now, please?

  9. Ana says:

    Cas is back! Hallelujah!

  10. erin says:

I have no clue how Meg figures into this but it should be interesting. I am just happy that new episodes of Supernatural are just around the corner.

  11. tia says:

could care less that cas is back. but curious as to how they will fix sam.

  12. Mrs. Peele says:

I, too, am very happy to see Misha back whether as Cas or someone else. But I think Dean has a lot to go through with his friend since all the betrayal from last season and the fact that Cas caused Sam’s eventual breakdown and by extension the death of Bobby by Dick – the boss leviathan. If he can get past all that and have ‘Cas’ save Sam it will be great although I will miss Mark Pelligrino – (love that man!). I would like to continue to see Misha next season too. I like Meg even though she is bad to the core. But she is one of the few characters who have ‘lived’ this long on the show. I think the trench coat has been laid to rest somewhere since that person no longer exists. It will be exciting to see how the writers create the new personality for Misha. And I do also want ‘Baby’ back – she’s been in that ‘corner’ far too long now!

    • jude says:

MRS PEELE…………. Your “Baby’s been in the corner for far too long” comment was BOTH brilliant and hilarious. I think you should suggest the writers allow Dean to use that when they re-introduce our much beloved Metallicar. Dirty Dancing can’t hold a candle to the love Dean has for ‘his girl’.

  13. Julie says:

Can I scream?! Can I?! Please?!!!!!
    *YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!*
It’s true that the Castiel storyline has been…. ermm.. yeah… but at least he brings something that the show has been missing for some time now! I can’t can’t CAN’T wait!!!!!!

  14. Michael Sacal says:

I think that Castiel exists only in Dean’s mind the same way Lucifer exists only in Sam’s mind.

  15. liam says:

wow you people are really super crazy for castiel. supernatural was better before the whole heaven and hell arc.

    • Alene says:

You have all the right to like it more before the heaven and hell arc, but a lot of people think it brought a new life to the show and like the show better after it, I’m one of these people and I know a lot of people who think like me.

    • Jim says:

You have a typo. I think what you meant to say was Supernatural got better because od the angel/demon arc. I like Cas a lot and will be glad for his return, but I caught an old episode on cable last week and realized I really dug Uriel and Zachariah. Those angels were all pretty bamf. The Leviathans are weak by comparison.

  16. Ella says:

I am ridiculously excited about Castiel/Misha being back! Meg dampens the excitement slightly but whatever, she was always annoying, in any skin. I also find it, once again, highly hypocritical that Dean has a demon sitting in the backseat of his car when he needs to save his brother but when Castiel made a deal to save Dean AND Sam with Crowley, they turned their backs on him. Regardless, I am super pumped about Misha being back, really hope he doesn’t leave again. Jensen said it was Cas but not Cas so the part about him being a “healer” is a little strange…unless Castiel has amnesia and is just using his leftover mojo to heal people without knowing how he’s doing it.

  17. Carrie Ann says:

I’m glad Cas is coming back. I’ve always liked the character and Dean could use his friend. I’m just excited for new episodes, though. It feels like it’s been so long, and I need my Jensen Ackles fix.

  18. David says:

It is pointless for Misha Collins to return if he isn’t Castiel. Fans won’t cop him playing someone else. It is almost idiotic to think they would dare try and pull that one over the fans.

    • kitty says:

      Hey David
Of course they will try to pull that one over the fans.
last season and this one have been pretty crap in the
writing department. Bobby’s gone, Cas is gone. SG has killed
off everyone close to the guys and ruined the best show on
TV. Bring back the Kripe days!!

  19. Ann says:

I used to like Cas once upon a time. But his time on the show is past and his return is nothing but fan service. Contrary to what was posted below, the show has never been about three brothers; it’s about two, Sam and Dean, who are each other’s best friends. That’s what I care about. I would have appreciated a pic or two of Sam in the midst of his breakdown.

    • Alene says:

In canon , Dean called Cas a brother and Bobby said Cas is one of the best friends Dean ever had. So, you may not like it, but Cas is a part of Team Free Will and will always be.

      • Sheri says:

Making Cas a Winchester is exactly what did it for me. I liked Cas in S4, but in S5, he was just a character for laughs, and S6 he took over the whole show. I can take him in small doses or forget about him just fine. What I hope is that he is not here again to be the fix-all for the Winchesters or to have the season once again be all about a support character.

I hope Dean isn’t agreeing to working with Meg. I’m for killing her off finally. That character is kind of worn out now.

  20. KS winchester says:

Why the hell did they bring this constipated angel back? I will consider watching the show, if he comes back in Season 8. I hope his entry is short.

  21. Jeff says:

Because he’s a great character and your opinion is in the minority?

    • Dee says:

Umm, he is not a great character and most true, real Supernatural fans do NOT want him back.

As I said before, he betrayed Dean and broke Sam, screw him.

I would stop watching if they were to bring him back for Season 8.

      • Hudson says:

Whereas I have already stopped watching without him. So please go ahead and leave. Bringing Misha and Cas back means that I can start watching again. We want him in Season 8. BRING BACK CAS IN SEASON 8!!!!!!

      • Zenobia says:

Did you not want Sam die and not be brought back when he betrayed his brother and brought on the apocalypse? If most “true, real Supernatural” fans don’t want him back, then I’m proud to be not a real fan. it’s kind of odd how the WB and the media has been totally fooled into thinking Castiel is such a beloved character, otherwise why did they release a special press release announcing Misha’s return to the show way back in December, and why are they releasing photos for 7.17 so early when the episode 7.16 hasn’t aired yet? Or why for what matter did they slip in a brief glimpse of Castiel for the 7.16 promo when he wasn’t even going to be in that episode? There must be an awful lot of false fans excited about his return then or CW, WB and the rest of the media wouldn’t be using him to promote the show. ;)

      • Alene says:

You may not like him, but we have the right to consider him a great character and a lot of us want him back, your opinion on this doesn’t change it. And Supernatural isn’t yours for you to decide what a real fan is.

  22. Sandy says:

Dean , Sam and Cas this is soooooooooooo great.

  23. Cheryl says:

Couldn’t agree more Castiel was gone and he should have stayed gone. He and the Angel mythology have caused enough damage to this show and its characters by being force fitted in seasons too long.

Castiel and the Angels were criminally instrumental in setting up and starting the Apocalypse and Castiel did so by lying and manipulating both brothers all of S 4. Castiel was Dean’s Ruby with a whole season full of facts to back it up but that got all swept under the rug by Kripke.
In S 7 he did it all over again but this time his crimes were even more heinous He tortured Ellie to death, killed his best friend Balthazar and took down Sam’s wall before he ingested a single Purgatory soul and he’s directly responsible for Bobby’s death. He left a body count in the thousands and Dean would have been dead too if the vessel the leviathans were in could hold them. Castiel is back simple for better closure and conclusion according to Robert Singer in this three story arc of Sams but its seems more like fan pandering to a small but loud corner of the fandom.

There was a reason the brotherly love was reinstated very quickly in mid season 6 as from Season 4 until mid season 6 the show had lost half its fan base. One million viewers, a quarter of this fandom left in season 4 alone (you can find proof of this at many places online ) and the ratings continued to drop another half a million in Season 5 and when the show hit below a loss of half their fan base mid Season 6 the show runners acted and probably too late to do anything about it, realizing that the fans had been leaving in droves from Season 4 thru 6 from the lack of the brotherhood Sam and Dean, their relationship, and the brotherly love and wanting back why they began watching the show in the first place the brothers and what this show had lacked sorely in Seasons 4 thru 6

Fans can fantasize all they want that’s their right But this show is and will always be the journey of Sam and Dean. Their story, their relationship, their love, being the most important person in each others lives. Hunting Supernatural evil; and that love of family can conquer everything. They are this shows heart and soul. And if anyone should be back in season 8 it should be Bobby as the brothers and he,the three of them are family.

    • Dee says:

LOVE your entire post, Cheryl. Agree with everything.

“The epic love story of Sam and Dean” always and forever.

      • silver says:

It seems to me that the epic story of Sam and Dean consists of Dean being all about Sam while Sam is always about himself and his many problems. I like that Cas is back because Dean has someone to care for him, since his brother is too busy being the most suffering of all heroes evah!

Bring Cas back for good and bring back the profound bond. That is what made the show better, not the endlessness of Dean angstying over his self-centered brother who always seems to choose demons and everyone else over Dean.

That’s why I like Cas. He chose Dean first. Sam has never, ever, in since season 1, chosen Dean first.

    • Kiersten says:

Speak for yourself Cheryl. I’m bored, bored, bored with the story of Sam (SOMETHING IS ALWAYS WRONG WITH HIM) and Dean (I MUST SAVE MY BROTHER AND STAY ATTACHED TO THE HIP AND HAVE NO EXISTENCE WITHOUT HIM) The ensemble characters – great demons like Crowley, Meg, and the angels like Gabe, Balthazar enriched the series. And Cas – he just added so much wonderful depth and storyline to the show. Some of us actually like having other characters in the show and Cas is dearly loved and dearly missed. And from the way Jensen Ackles has been talking at conventions – he really misses having Misha on the set too.

      • Dee says:

Yeah, that is why when they asked JENSEN how he wanted the show to end, he said he wanted Sam and Dean retired on a beach somewhere in Florida.

NO mention of the stupid angel.

        • Morgan says:

Funny, Dee how Jensen has expressed happiness to have Misha back and wants him for season 8 along with other members of the supporting cast whose characters have been killed off.

Castiel’s a wonderful character, and the fact that he’s returning is the only reason I and a lot of others haven’t given up on this show entirely.

        • Kiersten says:

Perhaps you should go back and check the con transcripts for both Nashcon and Burcon where Jensen said he’s told Singer he wants Mish back for Season 8 – along with Speight, Beaver and Benedict. He said that in Nashville and then repeated it in LA in his Meet and Greet. Plus he told someone that in the autograph line too. Saying he wants the show to either end in a blaze of glory or on a beach has nothing to do with Season 8 cast members.

        • Kris says:

Yet more recently Jensen said he wanted Misha back and that he’s like a brother. He seems to have more time for the “stupid angel” than you do.

          • Jamie says:

            @Kris
            that he’s like a brother

When did he say that? I remember him saying he wants Cas, Bobby, Gabriel, Chuck and some others back; and that Cas and Dean have an awkward sort of friendship. But I don’t remember any brother mentions.

      • Harley says:

You make way too much sense, lol. That’s exactly how I feel. I guess everyone will have their favorite season, but I really liked the supporting cast circa season 4 and 5 and how they interacted with the boys.

  24. charlotte says:

Really excited that Castiel will be back…he was one of the reasons why the show went up a notch in season 4, and his absence in season 6 onwards – which was NOT the Castiel show as some seem to think it was, Castiel was in fact in fewer episodes compared to seasons 4 and 5 – has contributed to the show’s lowering in standards.

Why do people not get that Supernatural evolved from “just” the Sam and Dean show a long time ago, and trying to force it back to how it was in seasons 1-3 has not worked. The chemistry is not the same because the characters are not the same – I wish some would just accept that everything has moved on.

If those fans obsessed with the past want to watch re-hashed versions of seasons 1-3 then they are better off actually watching seasons 1-3 on their dvds, and I mean that because the originals are far better quality than forced rehashed versions.

I wish everyone would just allow Supernatural to go down new roads, with new ideas and ways of telling stories…and embrace additional new characters like Castiel along the way. I do, and hope that this is going to be the future for Supernatural.

  25. Dilys says:

I am BEYOND EXCITED to have Cas back. I feel like I’ve been waiting all season for this. Finally Team Free Will can fly again. So excited – not the right adjective. More like ecstatic!

  26. Martin says:

I love that Cas is back but this show is going downhill WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY FASTER since they changed the showrunner after S5…

I’m sorry if ANYONE loves her but she does a crappy job…

YES this show is about 2 brothers….But NOW we’re left with ONLY Sam and Dean….NOBODY else around…..It’s boring…..

I keep watching just to see how the leviathan arc unfolds but….Not sure I’ll keep watching a season 8 if anything keep going the way it is

  27. casangelboy says:

I am WAY beyond excited to see Cas back! Haters better deal.

  28. Nicole clahane says:

I can’t wait till Castiel returns he is one of my favorite characters and they should deffenatly keep him around.

  29. Alene says:

I can’t even express how excited I am to have Cas back. I love his character really deeply and I think he deserves so much better than what he got on 7×02. He is great to the show and he always was a great support to Dean, that needs someone to lean on. This return isn’t only good to Cas, it’s good to Dean too. And probably to Sam. Cas made mistakes? Yes, he did. But who didn’t make mistakes in this show? Now he is back and he will probably redeem himself, like he said he would. Because he was sorry for the mistakes he made and, at least to me, all the good things and the sacrifices he made so far are more than enough to compensate his mistakes. And I honestly don’t get people who hate him. You don’t have to love every character, you can dislike him by the same reasons we love him. But why would you hate him? Because he made mistakes? Sam did too and was forgiven. People saying they hate Cas because he betrayed Dean and then saying how much they love Sam makes me wonder. Because Sam betrayed Dean too. If betraying Dean is why they hate characters, then they should hate Sam too. People have too much double standards. By the way, I love Sam and I know he did what he did because he thought it was the right thing to do. I just wish people could be more understanding to Cas. But what matters is that a lot of us love him. Because, let’s face it, if he wasn’t important, his return wouldn’t be so full of attention.

  30. Velvet says:

It’s obvious that Cas is a huge topic whether you love him or not. I happen to adore Castiel. I hope to see him in more epis. I think it would be cool to see Cas all spiffed up in new duds.

  31. Nick says:

I am so so happy to see Cas back. He brings so much to the show. I don’t think he takes away from the point of the show (the brothers) at all, he just enhances it and gives another point of view. There is so much more they could do with him (human!cas please!) and I really, really hope they bring him into season 8.

  32. Bud says:

What’s exactly the point of being Misha Collins back and have him not play Castiel? I’m being to really hate Sera Gamble, she’s ruined this show.

  33. Anita says:

It’s nice to see the Cas haters thinking that those of us who love Cas are the “loud minority”. Excuse me, are you keeping track of the comments on this article and others like it on different sites? Did you see the results on that poll asking “are you happy that Cas is back” (or something along that way)?

Seems to me that the Cas haters are the loud minority here. Complain and hate all you can, it’s your right after all, but assume once and for all that most of the fans (those who are invested enough in Show to care for stuff like this, anyway) ARE HAPPY THAT CAS IS BACK.

I would love to see Cas in season 8. A human Cas, helping the boys as best as he can. I’m assuming that all the people who keep on saying “ugh, I hate that angel” are going to be satisfied if it turns out that he’s not an angel anymore.

    • Sarah says:

If meant this as a reply to my post, since you used “loud minority” like me, you should maybe read my post again cause you missed my point.
      If you didn’t then nevermind.

    • Dee says:

“helping the boys as best as he can”
Which would be in what capacity exactly?

Dean has called him a “baby in a trenchcoat”

Is he skilled in weapons? Is he good at hand-to-hand combat?

Does he have mad Googling-skills? His pretending-be-a-detective sucks massively.

Just what would you expect him to be doing?

He is dead-weight and unless they do give him his powers back he is pretty worthless.

      • Restless says:

No way. Castiel can be super useful on knowledge alone. And I’d say he’s good at hand-to-hand combat, the angels only fought with swords and fists and he used the shotgun fine.

Besides, did you see Garth in the season 7 Time For A Wedding episode? What was his excuse for being a crappy detective? We know Castiel at least has learned how to lie better if that’s gonna be a criteria.

But honestly, I don’t care how useful he is to Sam and Dean.
I don’t want him back for that reason, he could drag the boys down and be like a newbie sidekick in the comic books (and I would fully expect that learning period if they did go human!Cas). Because I just like Castiel! His personality and character growth is what’s fascinating to me, not his powers and abilities. I think a lot of people must feel this way, hence the clamor for a human!Cas.

  34. Creepy-Creeper says:

Misha! Yay! I hope that at the end of the show (or at least this season) Dean gives Cas his trench coat back and they ride off into the sunset. :D

  35. jude says:

Don’t know if anyone would agree but it’s not Castiel that is returning. I’m thinking, at best, we will have Misha playing a healer who may have been an amnesiac Jimmy Novak after Castiel was dissipated from his vessel when the Leviathans went swimming. If he is a ‘healer’ possibly some remnants of Cas’s angelic healing powers remained. I love Misha as an actor, and since we’ve lost Bobby, Rufus and our beloved Impala, I will welcome him back in any capacity the writing staff will allow. There was a great acting chemistry with Jensen and Jared, and his new character I think can only heighten the brotherly bond if he helps our damaged Sam

  36. jude says:

MRS PEELE…………. Your “Baby’s been in the corner for far too long” comment was BOTH brilliant and hilarious. I think you should suggest the writers allow Dean to use that when they re-introduce our much beloved Metallicar. Dirty Dancing can’t hold a candle to the love Dean has for ‘his girl’.

  37. Kat says:

Cas haters, you are entitled to your opinion but unless you are psychic (and can prove it) you do not get to claim intimate knowledge of what the majority thinks!

I LOVE Cas and I am THRILLED to have him back! Dean and Cas always have great scenes together and they give Dean such incredible opportunities to show humor or vulnerability.

Now, if they can only find a way to get Bobby back!!!

  38. Susy says:

I’m happy Cas is back, even without the trench coat! Now,how about Bobby coming back in some spectral capacity? That would be perfect!

  39. Restless says:

Thank you for the pictures! The lighting looks fantastic, they all look really good.

And I’m seriously going to start crying in sheer joy because Castiel, he’s back! Not even the haters’ insecurity is putting a damper on my happiness. :D

  40. silver says:

Cas didn’t break Sam, Sam broke himself with that stupid plan of his to let Lucifer in. Sorry but if anyone is to blame for Sam’s stupid problem number 538, it’s Sam.

While I’m glad that Cas is back and has a story, I would love it if for once, this show would give Dean also a story that isn’t all about Sam. Sam’s stories are always about Sam, Dean’s stories are always about Sam. When will we have Dean’s stories about Dean and Sam being about Dean? It’s been seven years show, isn’t it time for a change?

    • Mrs. Peele says:

Silver – If you have been watching the show for 7 years than you should know that the focus has always been on Sam from the beginning. The story line was about his demon blood given to him by Azazel for the express purpose of becoming Lucifer’s vessel in the future. This has been explained through out the series. The Angel/Demon plan was to culminate with Lucifer’s rising and subsequent possession of Sam – the whole apocalypse thing was based on Michael and Lucifer fighting each other. Cas was part of that and helped it along when he released Sam from Bobby’s panic room which then let him go to Ruby and then kill Lilith. This was all planned out. The marriage between John and Mary was planned out – reference ‘Bloody Valentine’ and what cupid tells them and Michael in ‘The Song Remains the Same’. Sam and Dean were ‘born’ for this reason. Sam was told by Ruby that he ‘made the right choice every time’ but when ‘choice’ was never an issue there is no choice. Cas finally decided to try to stop Sam from killing Lilith and then help Dean but it was too late. This has been a carefully scripted story line conceive by Eric Kripke to carry through s.5. He envisioned that culmination with Sam taking Lucifer back to his cage and sacrificing himself – but he was driven and manipulated by Ruby when he released him and his guilt by making the wrong choice and all the death etc that happened made him do what he had to to free himself of that guilt – even though this was supposedly what God wanted to happen. Dean is and always will be the overprotective older brother who will do anything for his brother. They gave Dean a year of ‘family life’ (so not Dean) and he still grieved and had nightmares and and tried to find a way to free Sam. And, of course, being back with Sam (and his subsequent soulless problem) won out over just staying with his so called family. Cas was far from innocent in any of this. But I love the fact that he will be back however presented but Dean will have to get over issues with him and also his releasing the Leviathans which directly caused Bobby’s death.

Everyone I’ve spoken to about the show is anticipating Castiel’s return. I haven’t enjoyed this season that much. I really loved the episodes from the past that involved heaven, hell and religion. It brings more depth to the story line. The people who said that the show is just about the two brothers, it really isn’t. Whether you liked Castiel or not, his character brought another dimension to the brothers relationship and displayed a significant friendship to viewers. Since he was such a big part of the show over the past couple season, I hope to see for a return in season 8.

    • Mrs. Peele says:

Shauna – very good take. I too enjoyed the relationship that developed with all of them. I am glad the Heaven/Hell storyline is over though because that would keep it really based in religion and that’s not the entire focus of the show. And I hope the ‘new Cas’ will be able to help Sam. Where his character would go after this is a major story. I hope there will be a s.8 and I want to see more basic folk lore type situations. Supernatural may be winding down but I’m not ready to have the Winchesters gone just yet.

I know that Misha’s coming back to the show, but is it GOING to be Castiel? He didn’t have his trench coat . . . but I know that Dean kept it. But wouldn’t he get a new one? The directors didn’t tell us that Cas was back, only that Misha was. I’m worried that it’s not going to be Cas.
Hey, and all of you hating on Cas, I assure you that the majority of people wanted him back, or the producers wouldn’t have done it. So shut up.

    • Viggar says:

AMEN to that!!! I personally LOVES Misha/Castiel, he HAS to come back full time, hopefully he will in season 8 ;)

  43. Lisa says:

Sure we’re all entitled to have an opinion, but this doesn’t mean you can quarrel with everyone on the web. Just shut up everyone.

Can people just stop arguing and just appreciate the fact that this show’s still on even after 7 years?

Not a lot of shows last this long.

It is very telling that the issue of Misha returning in some form causes such varying reactions. How his presence can either result in mad love or pure hatred only goes to show that he has had an impact whether you liked the charachter of Castiel or Jimmy or this new version. Jensen and Jared have both said that they have missed him on set and that they were happy he was back. Other actors on the show, ie. Rob and Sebastian for example, have had only good things to say about Misha as well. I think all this negativity and nitpicking only does a diservice to the show and the actors. If they don’t have an issue with Misha, then why should the fans? On a personal note…. I love Misha but I have been a fan of all his work.

  45. Viggar says:

I saw that episode and God I hope so badly that he’ll return full time in season 8, I missed him so much! Supernatural wouldn’t be the same without Misha Collins! :)
