Dexter Vets Julie Benz and Jaime Murray to Reunite on New Syfy Series Defiance

Get More: Casting News

Former Dexter stars (and real-life pals) Julie Benz and Jaime Murray have both been cast in Syfy’s upcoming series Defiance.

Set in a dystopian future, the drama finds humans and aliens coexisting on a war-ravaged Earth that has been transformed by terra-forming machines.

Benz joins Defiance as Amanda Rosewater, the idealistic mayor of a burgeoning mining town who is resigned to maintaining peace within her community. Murray will play the “beautiful and proper” wife of Datak (Pillars of the Earth‘s Tony Curran), a member of an elite alien race. British actress Stephanie Leonidas also has been cast, as an extraterrestrial.

Our sister site Deadline first reported the news.

True Blood‘s Grant Bowler was previously cast as the series’ lead, the Chief Lawkeeper in the aforementioned boomtown.

Benz this season recurred on the CBS medical drama A Gifted Man, while Murray can currently be seen stirring up trouble on The CW’s Ringer (which finales April 17).

  • Something good forme to get interested in and then cancelled because a executive bean counter decides it is too expensive to continue production

    • Except the producers of bsg decided to end the show and “Caprica” was canceled due to horrific ratings…

  • Does that mean that the HG Wells show with Murray and Gareth David-Lloyd (Torchwood)is dead? That kind of sucks, I thought the back door pilot on “Warehouse 13″ was really good. Murray is the best thing about “Ringer” even though those writers don’t give her much. She was also great in the Spartacus prequel “Gods of the Arena”.

  • Kind of disappointed that the HG Wells show isn’t coming out as I really liked the character. Still, I like both Murray and Benz (both of whom I saw first on Dexter) and I’m glad they will be back on my TV screen. Shame it’s on Syfy though. I don’t hold out much hope for it being good or successful.
