Scoop: Keri Russell to Headline FX's Circa '80s Spy Drama Pilot The Americans

Get More: Casting News, Pilots

Keri Russell The AmericansOne of pilot season’s hottest properties is officially off the market.

Keri Russell has landed the female lead in FX’s The Americans, an hour-long drama pilot from Joe Weisberg (Falling Skies) and Graham Yost (Justified).

The ambitious project is set in the early ’80s and centers on two KGB spies, Phillip and Elizabeth (Russell), posing as married Americans in suburban Washington, DC. Despite their arranged union, the couple’s bond grows more passionate and genuine by the day, but is constantly tested by the escalation of the Cold War. Complicating their relationship further is Phillip’s growing sense of affinity for America’s values and way of life and the couple’s two children, who know nothing about their parents’ true identity.

Casting continues for Russell’s onscreen hubby. Gavin O’Connor (Warrior) is directing the pilot.

The Felicity grad’s last small screen venture was the ill-fated Fox comedy Running Wilde.

  • This is wonderful. I love Keri and hopefully, the show will be interesting and the producers will cast someone who has great chemistry with her, like she had with Scott Speedman and Scott Foley on Felicity. Yeah, Keri!
