The TVLine-Up: TV Worth Watching Wednesday

On TV this very busy Wednesday: The Idol gals sing for your vote, The Middle and Modern Family celebrate Leap Day birthdays, Revenge reels from a murder, Psych is Jones-ing for an adventure and more. Here are 12 programs to keep on your radar.
8 pm American Idol (Fox) | The 12 female semifinalists take the stage for the first time to perform live and for your vote. Spoiler alert: Every one of them will be deemed “amazing” by the judges.
8 pm One Tree Hill (The CW) | Haley receives news of a possible tragedy; Dan’s search for Nathan leads him back to his dark past; Clay has a breakthrough in his treatment.
8 pm The Middle (ABC) | Sue wants a big celebration for her Leap Year birthday. Get in line behind a certain Modern Family member, honey….
8:30 pm Are You There, Chelsea? (NBC) | Chelsea faces her father’s wrath and her own misgivings as a Sawx fan when her new baseball player beau (That ’70s Show‘s Wilmer Valderrama) gets traded to the Yankees aka home of 27 World Championships. (Watch video.) Estelle Harris (Seinfeld) guest-stars as Nikki’s grandma.

9 pm America’s Next Top Model (The CW) | Season 18 premiere: In this “British Invasion” edition, women from across the pond do whatever it takes to make it as a model in America — vying against not only each other but also a group of aspiring Stateside mannequins.
9 pm Modern Family (ABC) | Mitchell feels pressure to make Cameron’s Leap Day birthday extra special, while Haley and Alex interfere with Phil’s “holiday” plans.
9:30 pm Happy Endings | When Dave gets a liquor license for Steak Me Home Tonight, it suddenly becomes a trendy place — in part because his signature drink is giving everyone (except Alex, that is) sex dreams. Colin Hanks (Dexter) cameos as himself.

10 pm Psych (USA Network) | In the Indiana Jones-flavored Season 6.5 premiere, Despereaux (The Princess Bride‘s Cary Elwes), Shawn and Gus race a gang of art thieves to find a mythical dagger. John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and Mädchen Amick (Twin Peaks) also guest-star. Watch Spoiler Alert! Theater below to see Ausiello and a Parenthood star act out a scene from the episode:

10 pm Revenge (ABC) | In the wake of the murder scandal, the Graysons form a united front, Emily grows more anxious, Ashley steps up for the family and Jack is not the only one wondering where Amanda has gone. (Right? I’m quite missing her, too.) Get more scoop here.
10 pm Law & Order: SVU (NBC) | Benson calls on Bayard Ellis (Andre Braugher) for legal help when her estranged brother (House‘s Michael Weston) gets caught up in a child custody battle.
10 pm CSI (CBS) | During a Las Vegas blackout (has anyone seen Basher Tarr?), the CSIs must revert to old-school methods to solve the case of a missing child.
10 pm Top Chef: Texas (Bravo) | No, really — this time it’s the finale finale, as each chef preps a four-course meal for the judges and — unbeknownst to them — family members. Let’s hope Sarah doesn’t unwittingly agitate her cousin Jimmy’s peanut allergy!

  1. Ari says:

So suddenly everyone is a Leap Day baby? Wednesday has always been a slow day for TV.

  2. What!? says:

What!? No SVU on the list. Tonights episode features the return of Olivia’s brother and it’s the last new episode for 5 weeks.

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

Yeah, SVU was a late and tough cut from the final list. But because you “asked” kinda sorta nicely, it has been reinstated (if only because I’m buzzing on an M&Ms high right now.)

  3. DL says:

Idol, Modern Family, Happy Endings, Psych, Revenge, Top Chef… Too much to watch! Stimulation overload!

Is Suburgatory on repeats tonite? All the other shows have new episodes but i don’t see my new favorite comedy.

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

As a rule, the TVLine-Up does not list every new episode of every show every week. They make magazines and on-screen guides that do that :) (But yes, SUBURGATORY is new tonight.)
