Giancarlo Esposito RevolutionOnce Upon a Time‘s Evil Queen is on the verge of losing the man in her mirror.

Former Breaking Bad evildoer Giancarlo Esposito — who currently recurs as Sidney/Magic Mirror on ABC’s fairytale drama — has landed a starring role in Revolution, NBC’s hour-long pilot from J.J. Abrams and Supernatural creator Eric Kripke.

The thriller is described as a high-octane action drama following a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist.

Esposito will play Capt. Neville, a hard-as-steel military man with a genteel southern manner who may not always be what he seems.

Jon Favreau recently closed a deal to direct the pilot.

  • I wish Once Upon a Time could have retained him, the Magic Mirror is a pretty key character in the story of Snow White and the Evil Queen (less so on the show to date, but having to cast someone else/not have him at all would not be ideal.)

    • Yeah, but Sidney’s really only a recurring character. As long as he can show up occasionally, I’m good.

      • If he gets a main lead in a successful show, he won’t be able to turn up at all most likely. This is made even more the case by the fact that the new pilot is on NBC, at least if they were both the same network they might arrange some appearances.

  • Can’t wait for Revolution. I hope this is gonna be a huge hit in the history of Fantasy shows. And, Kripke always is concerned about “Loved ones”. As a devoted Fan of Supernatural, I am looking forward for this promising show, which I believe is gonna squeeze my heart and extract tears from my eyes, just like his Supernatural.

  • Hope his dark role in Breaking Bad should consider him as an Emmy nominee soon but not on Once Upon a Time.

  • He is too good to be playing backup to those inferior actors on Once Upon Time. Only one as good as him is the guy who plays Rumplestilskin.
