Pilot Scoop: Titus Welliver Leads NBC Cult, Good Wife Alum Catches Chicago Fire and More

Lost‘s Man in Black, Titus Welliver, is keeping things mysterious with a role on NBC’s drama pilot Midnight Sun.

Also among the latest pilot castings are another familiar face from The Good Wife, a United States of Tara alum, and the latest addition to The CW’s Arrow.

Pilot Season Lingo Guide (Including the ‘Scary’ Second Position), Plus a List of Picked-Up Pilots

• For starters, Welliver will play the charismatic and manipulative leader of a group — aka Midnight Sun — that lives on a cult-like commune in Alaska. After the members mysteriously disappear, a female FBI cult specialist leading the investigation uncovers a larger conspiracy.

The thriller is being adapted from the Israeli format by Lisa Zwerling (The Event, FlashForward).

Welliver has stayed busy since Lost signed off with recurring parts on CSI, The Good Wife and Sons of Anarchy. He also appears in the pilot of Fox’s new series Touch, starring Kiefer Sutherland.

In other pilot news per our sister site Deadline:

Monica Raymund is trading in one Chicago-set series — CBS’ The Good Wife — for another, with a role as a paramedic in NBC’s Chicago Fire, from Dick Wolf.

• Brie Larson (United States of Tara) has landed the female lead in writer-director Nick Stoller’s (The Muppets) untitled single-camera comedy starring Michael Angarano (Will & Grace) as a commitment-phobic ad agency exec who gets dumped by his girlfriend (Larson), but still has to work one cubicle away from her.

• New York stage actor Colin Donnell (Pan Am) has been tapped to play Oliver Queen’s “trustafarian” best friend in The CW’s Arrow.

  1. Emily says:

Is it just me or does Midnight Sun sound like The Event 2.0?

  2. Fabian says:

I’m not very confident in Midnight Sun. Of course it sounds good, but both The Event and Flashforward failed and it’s from the writer of both of those.

  3. CJ says:

It’s way too early to worry about these pilot projects. Let them get filmed and evaluated, and I’ll worry about them when an actual chance to see the product turns up.

  4. Mellie says:

Ugh, this show does not sound promising. But I absolutely adore Welliver… I hope the show is a success simply so that he can be on my TV as much as possible.
