Get More: Casting News, Pilots

Without a Trace alum Anthony LaPaglia is poised to return to TV in style, while actor-comedian John Leguizamo is on board for a U.S. take on a British comedy, in two of the latest pilot castings per our sister site Deadline.

LaPaglia has landed the lead in Americana, an ABC sudser set around a legendary fashion designer and his family and business.

Leguizamo meanwhile has signed on to star in ABC’s Only Fools and Horses, a multicamera comedy — based on the British format — about two streetwise brothers and their grandfather, who come up with outrageous, morally questionable schemes to get rich quick.

Leguizamo will play Del, the older, overly confidant con artist brother and leader of the team, Deadline reports.

In other pilot news…

Jurnee Smollett (aka Friday Night Lights‘ Jess) as been cast as one of the leads in John Wells’ adaptation of the U.K. series Bad Girls for NBC. Smollett will play a famous rap star who enjoys the high life on the local club scene… until she gets busted by the DEA and tossed into jail sans bail.

• Erik Jensen (Gravity) will play a deeply religious doctor/traveler in NBC’s The Frontier, a drama about a group that heads West from Missouri in the 1804s.

• Aussie ingenue Clare Bowen (Home and Away) will play a fresh-faced musical talent in ABC’s music-set Nashville pilot.

• Madison Davenport, who currently recurs on Showtime’s Shameless as Ethel, will play Anne Heche’s daughter in the NBC comedy Save Me.

Which pilot casting has your interest piqued?

  • That Only Fools rehash is an abomination.

    • I agree! When will American TV producers learn that American remakes of British shows are always worse than the originals?! They have a different style and different sense of humor and trying to Americanize that completely defeats the purpose of the original!

  • OMG, I’d watch Anthony La Paglia in anything!! I still miss Without A Trace :( Hey, maybe they could cast Marianne Jean Baptiste as, I don’t know, his assistant or something? And Eric Close as, maybe his lawyer? Ooh and Enrique Murciano as his bodyguard? Then we’d have nearly the whole gang back together!!! Well, it’s nice to dream……

  • While I love LaPlagia, and really want to see him weekly again, not sure this will be the right vehicle for him (just from the description above). But willing to give it a chance.

  • I saw Clare Bowen as Wendla in a Sydney production of Spring Awakening, she was amazing. I knew she’d do well, very happy for her!

  • I’ll dream it with ya! Maybe the combined energy will make it be! WAT was one of the best shows on TV! At least we have Poppy in Unforgettable which is pretty good.
