Pilot Scoop: Ryan Phillippe to Headline Greg Berlanti-Produced Drama

Get More: Casting News, News, Pilots

After dipping his toe back in the TV water on the upcoming final season of Damages, Ryan Phillippe is diving into the deep end as the star of a potential new CBS drama.

Sources confirm to TVLine that the Crash actor has landed the lead role in an untitled hour-long pilot (formerly known as Golden Boy) from onetime Brothers & Sisters boss Greg Berlanti and ex-NYPD Blue EP Nicholas Wootton that tracks one cop’s meteoric rise from officer to detective to Police Commissioner.

Phillippe will play said cop, Clark. He joins an ensemble that also includes True Blood‘s Kevin Alejandro and Pushing Daisies Chi McBride.

On Damages (slated to return over the summer), Phillippe will play a Julian Assange-type character who turns to Ellen (Rose Byrne) for help.

  • The cast for this show is shaping up to be pretty impressive. I’m hoping its not just a generic cop show that is pulling in this type of talent.

    • It’s a Berlanti. Expect milquetoast with an extra dash of milk. In other words, it’s going to be generic.

    • As much as I dislike CBS dramas, I might have to give this one a try. I love Chi McBride and loved Brothers & Sisters. Ryan Phillipe is a plus as well.

  • Just want to agree with George about JUSTIFIED and SOUTHLAND … plus add THE MENTALIST and GRIMM to the mix for a bit of drama/comedy. Some good TV these past few seasons … to me, that means cop shows!

  • I wonder if the description for the cop role that went to Philippe was: blonde, blue-eyed, Ben Sherman type.
