Boardwalk Empire Scoop: NewsRadio's Stephen Root Joins Season 3 Cast as [Spoiler]

Stephen Root Boardwalk EmpireBoardwalk Empire continues to replenish its ranks ahead of Season 3.

TVLine has learned that ubiquitous tube star Stephen Root (Pushing Daisies, NewsRadio, Justified) has been cast in the recurring role of Gaston Means, a forger, swindler and murder suspect who became a Special Investigator for the United States Department of Justice under Attorney General Harry Daugherty.

The casting scoop comes just days after TVLine broke the news that Empire regular Paz de la Huerta has joined fellow Season 2 casualties Michael Pitt, Dabney Coleman and Aleksa Palladino.

To fill the void, producers are introducing several new characters, including a rival to Nucky played by Bobby Cannavale.

More important among his credits, though not television related, Office Space and Dodgeball. I have faith in Boardwalk Empire, but I worry that they’re bringing more people into an already crowded cast.

  2. Jean Jeanio says:

Well, it IS a TV show, so of course Stephen Root’s on it.

Much though I love Stephen Root (and oh, how I love him), I believe that we are past the point where his casting should be considered a scoop – don’t we all just assume that if the show is even remotely interesting, he’s going to be on it eventually?
