Pilot Scoop: ABC Orders Four Dramas, Including New Marc Cherry Soap and Magical Cop Saga

Get More: Pilots

Desperate Housewives may be on its way out, but ABC is staying in business with Marc Cherry and his Devious Maids — one of but four drama pilots the network picked up on Tuesday.

Based loosely on the Mexican telenovela The Disorderly Maids Of The Neighborhood, Devious follows four ambitious housekeepers who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Cherry (pictured) will write and executive-produce the project, along with DH exec producer Sabrina Wind.

ABC’s other new drama pilot orders are:

* Gotham, from Michael Green (Everwood, Heroes), centers on a female cop who discovers that a magical world exists within New York City.

* Penoza follows the widow of an assassinated criminal who has to take over her husband’s role in a crime syndicate as a means of protecting her family. Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter, Twilight) is set to write and executive-produce the project.

* Zero Hour, from Paul Scheuring (Prison Break), tells the story of an editor at a skeptics magazine who is pulled into a bizarre conspiracy.

ABC’s previous pilot orders include a family comedy starring and exec-produced by Judy Greer, and a reimagining of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

    • True, but these days it’s synonymous with Batman.

  • Finally, a pilot I find interesting-Gotham. I was starting to think I’d have nothing new to watch next season. Here’s hoping it turns out well and gets picked up.

  • I don’t know of lightning will strike twice for Marc Cherry, but I hope it’s a good show.

Gotham sounds interesting, but the name just makes me think batman. It’s hard to get over that

  • C’mon.. stop fairy tales shows… Hollywood wants to make us to believe that modern fairy tales ala Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is the new trend after the end of Harry Potter and the upcoming final movie of Twilight.

Right now we have on tv Once upon of time, Grimm and the new shows like the 2 beauty and the beast.. in movies we have two snow whites and other fairy tales movies next year

I want to see new ideas on tv and movies

  • Devious Maids sounds pretty cool. Maybe some of the Real Housewives of BH can guest star? That’d be pretty fun.

Gotham also sounds pretty sweet. I hope the female cop has some sort of like princess transformation where she’s like gritty in the NY world but then is like a princess in the fantasy world. That’d be cool.

  • Just the other day I was seeing only rehashed ideas out of all the pilots for the networks. Still seeing some of that (Gotham) but also seeing some really different and weird stuff, loll.

  • PENOZA sounds a lot like an adaption of the telenovela LA REINA DEL SUR. :)

Anyway, they should rename GOTHAM if it gets picked up. The name just isn’t attractive to the female audience.

  • The creator of “Desperate Housewives” is pitching a show called “Devious Maids”? What’s next for Marc Cherry “Desirous Moms” or “Diabolical Nannies”? For being a creator of a hit show he sure hasn’t had much luck with anything else since. We heard talk of a DH spin-off in seasons 1 and 2 and then a few years ago for another spin-off for Kathryn Joosten and Lily Tomlin that never materialized, then “Hallelujah” didn’t get picked up and now he’s trying someone else’s concept. Me thinks the well might be dry Mr. Cherry.

Also I have to agree with the others about “Gotham” and it sounding VERY much like “Grimm” except the title is horrible.

  • I like to see Marc Cherry series to land in a time slot next fall, but I hope it be a little bit more funny then drama or both, and have some one who acts as great as sophia vergara or roselyn sanchez.

  • Isn’t “Gotham” extremely similar to the Ron Moore pilot that never saw the light of day at NBC “17th Precinct”?
