Ratings: While Obama's Numbers Hold Up, Idol Repeat Leads Fox to Demo Win

Get More: News, Ratings

President Obama’s third State of the Union Address averaged 25.5 million total viewers across ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox on Tuesday night, based on preliminary overnight numbers. Looking at strictly the broadcast numbers available thus far, that puts it on par with POTUS’ year-ago speech to the nation.

Among other Tuesday fare, an NCIS repeat drew the most total viewers (with 12.4 million), while an encore of Sunday’s football-delayed American Idol auditions round (9.5 mil/3.3) commanded the best demo rating, fueling a Fox win for the night.

Elsewhere, The Biggest Loser (6.3 mil/2.0) dipped more than 6 percent… 90210 (1.3 mil/0.7) gained a tenth in the demo… and The CW’s Remodeled — with 940,000 viewers and a 0.4 rating — “surged” some 30 percent from its DOA debut.

  • This site is supposed to be about entertainment so why I am looking at a picture of Barack Obama? Yes, the speech was televised but Obama spent most of the time talking about how dedicated he is to creating jobs and fixing the economy which is interesting because he’s had nearly four years to act on his words and he has NOT done SQUAT! Now, please help me understand when lies became entertainment…

Also, why do we need to look at his less than truthful face? You might have needed to mention Obama because of the numbers but I’d rather look at Jennifer, Steven and Randy! They are entertaining!

I know Hollywood is mostly Democrat but I come to your site for entertainment news not political endorsements!

    • Give TV Line a little break. The post is about last nights major network ratings. The president’s speech was televised on all major networks. So it is relevant. I don’t care for him either but I am not offended by the picture.

  • What Matt failed to mention, because he either needs glasses or is probably a leftist and has to give El Presidente some padding like all good leftist, is that the viewers were down by 21% from his SOTU speech in 2010 and down 12% from his SOTU in 2011. Also, 27% of all viewers turned away after the first 5 minutes on this propaganda campaign speech that blamed everyone except who is really responsible.

The best part of this speech besides the ending is the fact that you won’t have to hear it from him again when he is voted out later this year. HOORAY! The sad thing is if Matt is still doing this gig in a few years, he will point out the fall of the numbers from year to year from whoever the GOP president is because they are actually held to account.
