Pilot Scoop: CBS Orders Drama Widow Detective

CBS has ordered a drama pilot from CSI exec producer Carol Mendelsohn about a cop who’s basically the kiss of death.

The hour-long project, titled Widow Detective, revolves around a decorated police officer who, after losing three partners in the line of duty, becomes a surrogate husband, lover and father to their families.

David Hubbard penned the script and will serve as an exec producer along with Mendelsohn.

Is Tom Welling in it :)

  2. Stephen says:

    Six seasons and a movie!

    First!

  3. Aeol says:

Maybe I’m just not understanding the premise, but this sounds totally disturbing! Is it like Sister Wives meets a cop show?

  4. Mr Loiter says:

    Sounds creepy.

  5. rod says:

    sounds really bad

  6. Amy says:

A cop becomes husband, lover and father to 3 separate families? At the same time? How’s that?

  7. Daniela says:

Sounds unbelievable stupid! Why not come up with new and fresh ideas … look at cable TV and what they are doing.

And do people really need yet another crime drama on CBS? … NO!!!

  8. Laney says:

Sounds creepy and weird and wrong. And not the good, Dexter/Criminal Minds/Bones kind of creepy and weird and wrong.

  9. Mark says:

Why can’t CBS develop more shows like the Good Wife? It’s the only drama worthwhile watching on that awful channel. How many crime/cop shows does one network need?

    • Michael says:

maybe because the Good Wife suck I mean its so basic and right winged

    • Jax says:

Maybe because the Good Wife gets terrible ratings. The only reason they keep it around is because it is a favorite of the critics and the lead actress has won an award. Still, Television is a business and they are not in the business of duplicating shows that get low ratings.

@jax – Receiving an average of 10 million viewers is not considered by anyone with a brain to be terrible ratings. It is well received by people who know quality versus the juvenile writing and acting on the majority of shows that receive poor ratings of about five or six million viewers. Duplication is a sign of lack of creativity; just look at all the terrible reality shows, it does not represent a stamp of approval. Quality, like intelligence, is becoming more rare these days.

        • muffy says:

First of all, ad rates for TV are not based on total viewers. Second of all, FOR CBS DRAMAS, 10 million viewers is actually low for them, one of the lowest. TGW’s 18-49 demo numbers are horrific and CBS really does only keep them around for awards. Again, total viewers do not set ad rates, and that is the choice of those who buy network ads, aka the advertisers.

    • MaryAnn says:

The Good Wife is CBS’s only unwatchable drama.

  10. Richard says:

That’ll teach me to read the headline more carefully! Thought it said Window Detective. Mind you, that does actually sound more promising.

  11. Danielle H says:

Umm.. .any other knee-jerk WTF reactions out there?
Some of the pilots this year are just wayyyyy too out there.

  12. Sally says:

I’m…intrigued, even though I have enough cop shows to watch.

  13. Loki says:

John Ritter starring in the man with three wives.

  14. Jane says:

It sounds like a real stinker.

  15. Loki says:

Oops my bad, Beau Bridges, starring in The Man With Three Wives 1993.

  16. Phil Hersh says:

    Boring!

  17. sarah says:

Yes TOM WELLING,I WANT TOM WELLING is a fantastic and good actor!

  18. alexjones says:

this sounds terrible, hope it never makes it to the air.

  19. mary moss says:

I miss tom welling! I want TOM on my television. ok.

  20. Cathy says:

I’m very tired, but am I missing something? “The hour-long project, titled Widow Detective, revolves around a decorated police officer who, after losing three partners in the line of duty, becomes a surrogate husband, lover and father to their families.”

So this is a man or a woman, because it sounds like a man, but widow implies woman, so…

  21. Katie says:

So…his partners die and he gets to move in on their wives and families? I think maybe they should investigate HIM for the deaths.

  22. Julia says:

That’s an awful name. I’ve tried saying it a couple of times out loud, and it just gets more ridiculous every time.

    “Next week, on Widow Detective…”

  23. Nicole says:

I love tom welling is perfect!
