Get More: News, Pilots

CBS has ordered a drama pilot from CSI exec producer Carol Mendelsohn about a cop who’s basically the kiss of death.

The hour-long project, titled Widow Detective, revolves around a decorated police officer who, after losing three partners in the line of duty, becomes a surrogate husband, lover and father to their families.

David Hubbard penned the script and will serve as an exec producer along with Mendelsohn.

  • Maybe I’m just not understanding the premise, but this sounds totally disturbing! Is it like Sister Wives meets a cop show?

      • This comment would have been PERFECT, if not for the fact that the character in question is a male. Makes me really wish it was a woman, because this comment was hilarious.

      • He, not she. His partners keep dying and he “takes care” of their widows. It should be called “Widow-Maker Detective.”

      • I think “Jinx and a Slut” would make an interesting show. I’d sure watch it! :-)

  • A cop becomes husband, lover and father to 3 separate families? At the same time? How’s that?

    • It’ll be even more interesting if at least one of his partners were a woman–so he becomes a lover to her husband.

  • Sounds unbelievable stupid! Why not come up with new and fresh ideas … look at cable TV and what they are doing.

And do people really need yet another crime drama on CBS? … NO!!!

  • Why can’t CBS develop more shows like the Good Wife? It’s the only drama worthwhile watching on that awful channel. How many crime/cop shows does one network need?

Comment by Mark – January 25, 2012 06:22 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • maybe because the Good Wife suck I mean its so basic and right winged

Comment by Michael – January 25, 2012 06:32 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • Right winged? How is it right winged? It’s definitely the most liberal of CBS’ line up? I don’t understand.

    • Maybe because the Good Wife gets terrible ratings. The only reason they keep it around is because it is a favorite of the critics and the lead actress has won an award. Still, Television is a business and they are not in the business of duplicating shows that get low ratings.

Comment by Jax – January 26, 2012 06:59 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • @jax – Receiving an average of 10 million viewers is not considered by anyone with a brain to be terrible ratings. It is well received by people who know quality versus the juvenile writing and acting on the majority of shows that receive poor ratings of about five or six million viewers. Duplication is a sign of lack of creativity; just look at all the terrible reality shows, it does not represent a stamp of approval. Quality, like intelligence, is becoming more rare these days.

        • First of all, ad rates for TV are not based on total viewers. Second of all, FOR CBS DRAMAS, 10 million viewers is actually low for them, one of the lowest. TGW’s 18-49 demo numbers are horrific and CBS really does only keep them around for awards. Again, total viewers do not set ad rates, and that is the choice of those who buy network ads, aka the advertisers.

  • I’m very tired, but am I missing something? “The hour-long project, titled Widow Detective, revolves around a decorated police officer who, after losing three partners in the line of duty, becomes a surrogate husband, lover and father to their families.”

So this is a man or a woman, because it sounds like a man, but widow implies woman, so…
