Get More: News, Pilots

Bill Lawrence’s life story has moved one step closer to the small screen.

Fox has ordered the Cougar Town co-creator’s semi-autobiographical single camera comedy pilot Like Father, sources confirm to TVLine.

The project, which revolves around a father-son relationship, is inspired by Lawrence’s own relationship with his father. Lawrence penned the script and will direct the pilot.

  • What does this mean for the next 3 seasons of Cougar Town and the movie?!?

  • As long as this doesn’t take him away from Cougar Town too much (my absolute favorite show), this is awesome news. Bill Lawrence is the best showrunner ever! Will be watching…

  • This will tank in the ratings, but the network will keep giving it extra chances, yet Bill Lawrence will constantly whine to the press about how poorly the network treats the show, rather than admitting it sucks.

How does this guy keep getting work anyway? Must have made some sort of deal with the devil.

    • How does he keep getting work? hmm good question…. i mean spin city, scrubs, and cougar town were all hits with critics and consistently funny, but it still doesn’t answer the question does it? i mean why would networks continue to green-light shows from a show-runner who’s known for his funny shows? Hmmm that’s a tough one….

  • It may not conflict with Cougar Town in any way–we don’t know if it will be back next season.

    • If Cougar Town’s still on the air, it’ll be on another network with another name. ABC’s determined to kill it with its new timeslot and opposite-end-of-the-spectrum lead-in. We could pray CBS picks it up and puts it after Big Bang Theory, or it’s closest cousin, How I Met Your Mother, but it’ll probably get picked up by NBC and air after Whitney!

  • I’m torn b/c the show doesn’t sound very interesting but with Bill Lawrence writing the script it has to be funny.

  • I’m glad Bill Lawrence will continue to have a show on TV in case the unthinkable happens to Cougar Town. This smart, funny guy needs to stick around.
