The TVLine-Up: TV Worth Watching This Friday

On TV this Friday: It’s Shark season on ABC, a Chuck fave gets caught in a Catch-22, Grimm‘s Monroe comes under fire and more. We’ve found eight programs to keep on your radar.

8 pm Shark Tank (ABC) | The Season 3 premiere includes two women from Minnesota who have an online business plan to help people plan their own funerals. The only catch is you have to use PayPall! (I’m here all week.)

8 pm Chuck (NBC) | In the series’ penultimate outing, Sarah and Chuck must face big bad Nicholas Quinn (guest star Angus Macfadyen) aboard a bullet train when a mission in Japan turns into a hostage situation; Casey, meanwhile, is presented with an impossible decision. Gulp.

8 pm WWE Smackdown (Syfy) | In the latest chapter of what our Meg Masters touts as a “big, fun, soapy rivalry,” Daniel Bryan defends his title against Mark Henry.

2012 Renewal Scorecard: What’s Coming Back? What’s Getting Axed? What’s on the Bubble?

9 pm Fringe (Fox) | Peter’s visit to the other side intensifies as the alternate Fringe division faces off against a formidable new foe in a harrowing race against time. (Read preview.)

9 pm What Would You Do? (ABC) | This season premiere includes a make-up counter employee who pushes concealer on a woman with a birthmark, and a man who kisses another man when his wife goes to the loo.

9 pm Grimm (NBC) | While investigating a “gruesome” (versus lovely?) homicide, Nick learns that a seemingly mild-mannered resident could be festering a potential monster created from a dark childhood; Monroe is sent an unsettling message by the creature community, who are beginning to question his allegiance.

Hot for Winter: Your January Premieres, Returns and Finales Calendar

10 pm 20/20 (ABC) | Chris Cuomo has the latest on the luxury cruise ship that sank after striking rocks off the coast of Tuscany, Italy, including the investigation into the captain’s actions.

10 pm Merlin (Syfy) | An assassin’s attack during Arthur’s birthday party throws the kingdom into chaos. I can imagine — after all, bounce houses don’t stand a chance against arrows and maces.
