The TVLine-Up: TV Worth Watching Wednesday

On TV this Wednesday: The melisma is back, a Modern Family moppet has a bleeping dilemma, SVU gets Harry and more. All told, we’ve found 13 programs you might want to keep on your radar.

8 pm American Idol (Fox) | Season 11 kicks off with two hours’ worth of auditions from Charleston, S.C. and Savannah, Ga. as well as cases upon cases of Red Bull being dollied into Michael Slezak’s TVLine office.

8 pm One Tree Hill (The CW) | Brooke discusses a new business venture with her father; Quinn convinces Clay to get help; Millie struggles to be honest with Mouth; Nathan volunteers to scout in Europe, leaving Dan with Haley and Jamie.

8:30 pm Are You There, Chelsea? (NBC) | Free Pass No. 2: When Sloane’s old high school beau shows up at the bar, Chelsea can’t resist the temptation to go out with him.

2012 Renewal Scorecard: What’s Coming Back? What’s Getting Axed? What’s on the Bubble?

9 pm Criminal Minds (CBS) | A series of murders have the BAU wondering if the notorious Zodiac Killer has returned; Reid ponders if he should be doing more with his genius abilities. Novelist Patricia Cornwell guest-stars as herself.

9 pm Modern Family (ABC) | The family helps Claire prepare for her TV debate with Duane Bailey (returning guest star David Cross) for the town council seat; Lily is set to be a flower girl at a wedding for the first time, but just as she’s discovered her first expletive. Oh, fudge!

9:30 pm Happy Endings (ABC) | When Jane convinces Penny to stop changing herself for every guy she dates and instead change the guy to suit her needs, her first experiment is a slacker played by Veronica Mars‘ Ryan Hansen; Alex and Max stage an “in-T-vention” to curb Dave’s obsession with v-necked T-shirts.

Hot for Winter: Your January Premieres, Returns and Finales Calendar

10 pm CSI (CBS) | In series vet Marg Helgenberger’s penultimate appearance, an impassioned Catherine leads the charge when a brilliant, near-perfect killer targets those close to her. Returning guest stars include Grant Show, Matt Lauria, Annabeth Gish and Titus Welliver.

10 pm Royal Pains (USA Network) | Winter premiere: HankMed attends a quirky yet lavish “divorce party” so Hank can keep an eye on a party planner complaining of an upset stomach; Paige makes Evan an offer he can’t refuse.

10 pm Law & Order: SVU (NBC) | You heard the promo guy: “Harry Connick Jr. joins the team – and SVU will never be the same.” Never. Be. The. Same.

10 pm Revenge (ABC) | Daniel plans a romantic proposal that may carry dire ramifications; Jack’s life is put in jeopardy when he’s betrayed by someone he adores; Nolan forces Emily to think twice about her actions; Victoria presumably walks around looking radiant.

10 pm Mistresses (BBC America) | Season 3 premiere: Two years have passed and the once impenetrable bond between Katie, Trudi, Jessica and Siobhan has been broken. Thus, when they finally get together, it is so not “happy to see me.”

10 pm Top Chef: Texas (Bravo) | Charlize Theron, who plays the Evil Queen in one of the upcoming Snow White movies, is a guest judge, so the theme is… well, frankly, it’s rather convuluted, but nonetheless thematically apropos.

10 pm Hot in Cleveland (TV Land) | Betty White hit the big 9-0 this week, and here so does Elka. Willie Garson (White Collar) guest-stars as a doctor at a hospital where both Melanie and Victoria are admitted.

Which of the above is must-see TV for you? Also, hit the Comments to politely offer tune-in suggestions of your own.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

Fringe is long shot to be renewed, yet American Idol goes on and on ad nauseum – what is wrong with that picture? Sorry for my digression with commentary.

Criminal Minds – I love me some Dr. Reid.
CSI – sad to see Catherine go. I am still personally dumbfounded they haven’t brought Grissom back.

for the first time in 10 years, I will NOT be watching American Idol’s premiere…or any other part of the season. It took me 3 years to gradually break my addiction but I am free, lol! Not quite as sure about the blogs and Slezak though… might still lurk a bit.

  17. Lauren says:

The Hamptons all night for me! Royal Pains and Revenge. This night is now so awesome it’s now competing for Sunday (Downton Abbey and Once) for my favorite night of TV.

  18. Happy says:

The article’s title is “TV Worth Watching Tonight” and you use a photo of the judges from American Idol. Isn’t that some sort of oxymoron?

  19. Divya says:

HANK MED ALL THE WAY (to the Hamptons, that is!)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  20. Magali says:

Modern Family+Happy Endings+Revenge=a good night of TV :) Tanks ABC (Cougar Town would make the night complete!)

I was ready to break up with HankMed during the first half of the season but the fall finale sucked me in enough to keep me going. More Campbell Scott always helps!

  22. Des Courteney says:

Republic of Doyle on CBC guest starring Shannon Tweed!!!
