Brace yourselves for more fresh-faced triple-threats battling to become 2012′s answer to Darren Criss and Lea Michele.

Oxygen has renewed The Glee Project, its reality competition series that rewards its winner with a seven-episode arc on the Glee mothership, for a second season, to air this summer.

Season 2 will feature 14 contestants — two more than last year — singing, dancing, and acting for a judges’ panel of behind-the-scenes players from Glee: executive producer Ryan Murphy, casting director Robert Ulrich, choreographer and co-producer Zach Woodlee, and vocal coach Nikki Anders.

According to an Oxygen release, “second season casting recently wrapped up, with thousands of hopefuls auditioning online and in a multi-city casting tour.”

Season 1 of The Glee Project ended with Murphy naming two winners: Damian McGinty, who has already begun his stint as exchange student Rory Flanagan, and Samuel Larsen, whose arc is expected to air in the second half of Glee‘s third season. A pair of runners-up, Lindsay Pearce and Alex Newell, also scored roles on the show.

  • That’s terrible! It’s bad enough that Celtic Thunder’s Damian McGinty has to waste his time with Glee. but now more people want to waste their talent in a talentless show.

    • Glee is not what it used to be, but that guy Damian is not talented at all. His singing voice live is just awkward, and his acting is awful (if there’s actual acting) and he can’t dance (which is not really really necesary for the show, but he should at least have that if the other two qualities mentioned before are absent).

      • He is on the show because he is Glee. He is an underdog. He has heart. He is the perfect contender for the show. And, he’s an AMAZING singer? And, it’s kind of hard coming onto a show when you’re originally not an actor and have had very little training? And also, Cory isn’t a great dancer? Neither is Damian? So what!? This show is about embracing flaws. Everything can’t be perfect!

  • Odd that the show has only just been picked up, yet casting for the season is already complete… they must have been pretty confident of renewal.

Liking the season 1 kids’ appearances on the Glee mothership so far. Damian’s character seems kind of disposable, but Lindsay has really made an impression in her two episodes, and they totally set it up so that she could return in later seasons.

  • This is great news.

I for one loved the Glee Project (maybe even more than most of Glee season 2), so really looking forward to this.

    Couple of questions

    1. Time is running out for Sam to start filming his episodes, which makes me wonder if they will just introduce him and bring him back for a S4.

    2. I would love to see Lindsay as a full time character next year, since she stated on the show that she is a sophomore.

    3. I really hope The Glee Project puts more emphases on acting in some of the challenges for S2.

  • I like the show, not how Ryan makes his picks, but I really like the show and so do my teen daughters and their friends. It’s a lot of fun and the kids are enjoying seeing the winners on Glee… how about we just sit back and enjoy without so much harping?

  • Damian is has an amazing singing voice, and an awesome actor, and yah he may not be the best dancer, but they made a right choice when they picked the winners for the glee project. If they thought he was terrible he would’ve went home, and not be in glee at all!
    Team Damian!!!!!<3

  • So excited about The Glee Project 2, I enjoy it even more than Glee. And what I’m most excited about is watching Damian as a mentor.

  • Damian has been amazing on Glee – so glad he is staying on the show longer. :)
Lindsay was awesome, Samuel’ll be awesome, and so will Alex.

Can’t wait for season 2 of TGP.
