Casting News: Alcatraz Nabs Rookie Blue Detective, Nikita Spies Fame's Coco

Rookie Blue star Eric Johnson is going from arresting bad guys on the Canadian drama to getting locked up on Alcatraz.

The Smallville alum will guest star on the new Fox series as one of the many prisoners who disappeared from the famed island jailhouse 50 years ago and are now mysteriously returning sans signs of aging.

According to, Johnson will play a smooth-talking bank robber with an interest in safety deposit boxes in Episode 4, airing Jan. 30. Additionally, Michael Eklund (Fringe, Supernatural) will appear in Episode 3 as a kidnapper who returns his victims to their homes after killing them.

Alcatraz debuts with a two-hour premiere Monday, Jan. 16 at 8/7c.

Meanwhile, The CW’s Nikita has tapped Fame‘s Erica Gimpel for a two-episode guest stint as Carla, the woman who took Nikita off the streets, E! Online reports. While Carla is like a mother figure to Nikita, they’ll be reunited under unfortunate circumstances, with secrets about both women coming to light.

Gimpel, who played Wallace’s mom on Veronica Mars, will first appear in Episode 14, airing in February.

  • Erica Gimpel should abandon The Young and The Restless and join prime time more. She was awesome on Veronica Mars, so she needs to kick butt soon. Because I am sad of her dirty cop character on Y&R is being wasted.

  • This guy was also all kinds of awful in that recent FLASH GORDON show that SUCKED.

    • Well, look at the material he was given to work with!! I agree Flash Gordon was bad but he is pretty good on Rookie Blue. Give him a chance!!
