  • The ones I want to stay that are iffy are on ABC. Body of Proof, Cougar Town and Pan Am need to be saved. I really enjoy all of them. Cougar Town’s schedule is all over the map and if it wasnt for my DVR I’d miss it completely. Consistent scheduling definitely helps a show. Pan Am is a really good show and I hope they bring it back. I know it’s a Long Shot but with some of the other stuff on there, what else will they put on???

NBC has Harry’s Law and I’m not sure how I feel abt it anymore. I LOVED the first season, quirky and off beat, helping the underdog, but the second season started with a really fancy office, an entire legal team and the quirkiness seems to be gone.

  • Gossip Girl is “A Sure Thing”? REALLY? Gossip Girl’s ratings are terrible. And it feels stale now. I guess the CW wants to milk the casts’ contracts for all they are worth.

Didn’t Ed Westwick just give an interview about how he was unhappy with the direction of his character and was ready to leave?

I just hope Gossip Girl’s renewal doesn’t take the place of a better performing CW show who deserves renewal over Gossip Girl.

  • @Jason, re: Top Model: It’s the only reality show that does well on the CW, and it’s actually performing better than the Monday/Tuesday fare.

Speaking of, I also would like to know how Gossip Girl’s a “sure thing” now. The ratings are horrible–last week’s episode was the lowest rated episode in this history of the show–and there’s already critical disapproval for tonight’s episode (at the A/V Club).

  • how the hell is gossip girl a sure thing? the ratings are horrible, the storyline is beyond crappy and the actors themselves hate it!..if this horrible show gets renewed over nikita i might just have a stroke…

  • You left Hell’s Kitchen and MasterChef off your list. I thought I had read as some point recently that both of these series had been renewed by FOX.

  • Can someone explain why Body of Proof is listed as could go either way and Private Practice is listed as a safe bet? BOP’s last live episode got a 7.9 in ratings and PP got a 6.2.

Comment by Em – February 2, 2012 07:25 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Total audience doesn’t matter nearly as much to advertisers (whose money supports these shows) as 18-49 viewership does. Private Practice does much better in the 18-49 demo than Body of Proof does, which makes it considerably more likely to stick around.

Behind Vampire Diaries it’s my favorite show of the season!

  • I really hope Ringer is renewed! It’s the only show I watch which isn’t listed as ‘a sure thing’. I think it’s a fun, dramatic show, and I’d love to see more of it.

Comment by Cora – February 3, 2012 08:17 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Almost all the shows I like seem to be safe the ones I am preying that make it, is CSI:NY and CSI:Miami since they have the status of “it could go either way.” I really like those shows so I hope they make it.

Comment by Shannon – February 4, 2012 03:04 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • I don’t understand how CSI is a safe bet? I’ve been over it for so long. I’m usually okay with cast changes on shows, but for CSI I never really could deal with it. I think CSI:Miami is still pretty good. Even CSI: NY is awesome. I miss Melina Kanakaredes as Stella, she just brought something else to the show, but I still like the show. I feel that CBS doesn’t put much focus on MIA and NY. And moving them from Mondays and Wednesday I feel ruined their ratings.

  • I just hope, hope, hope CSI NY can pull it off. CBS is really going to ‘just end’ one of their huge hits. They owe the fans one more final season at least. On Fridays, CSI NY is doing well.

  • I love The Whitney Cummings Show. I pray that it’s not along shot. Not fair that it gets a “long shot” after being a freshmen show up against American Idol. Who in their right mind thinks that WHitney can get great numbers as the lead in up against AI. Whitney gets numbers from 1.4 to 2.2. so how is that a long shot?
I say we need to see more of Whitney and it is one of the best shows of 2012.

  • Why is Gossip Girl ‘A Sure Thing’??

The ratings are terrible. It barely manages one million viewers each week. It is already limping along. Just put it out of its misery. It is past its prime.

GG better not get renewed over SPN.

  • Dear TV Network Executives,

I have an invaluable skill that can save your network a lot of money (maybe millions).

My skill set can help you identify which shows will fail. Hire me to preview shows you are interested in, if it turns out that I like it you can cancel it even before it starts saving you millions on production costs.

    Looking forward to you call.

Comment by Kerry – February 21, 2012 11:00 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • @Kerry I like A Gifted Man and am hoping it is renewed too. I am not saying the CSI spinoffs should be canceled (frankly I have no opinion on them) but I have a feeling A Gifted Man’s fate is connected to the renewal of one or both of them. It seems to fairly well for a Friday spot when you look at overall viewers but not in certain demos. I am in my 30s, but hey you never know. Fingers crossed. Next weeks finale looks good either way.

  • How in the world is 2 Broke Girls a sure thing????? I think it is one of the most cliched, awful, terribly acted shows ever!! I have it to DVR only because it’s on after How I Met Your mother and sometimes the DVR cuts off the ending so I catch on the beginning of the 2 broke chicks. I immediately erase it. I’m stunned that anyone watches this show. I was really sick last week and actually watched it as there was nothing else to do while out of work sick and I swear, I think it made me sicker.

Comment by Dee – February 21, 2012 01:08 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Well thanks for your opinion. Some of us just enjoy it for what it is. It’s not a heralded comedy like arrested development but it has it’s funny moments and far from the worst thing on TV. I am a HIMYM fan also but I could ask after the last 2 years how this show is still on TV. It’s lost a lot of what made it good early on and I keep hoping it gets it back. But that’s just my opinion.

And I really do hope that HoD is getting a 2nd season. It reminds me of the good old WB days. It is just a cute show. Didn’t think I’d like it as much as I now do.

  • I wish people would understand how the entertainment BUSINESS works, and just because they think a show is quality and deserves to stay on despite losing money is ridiculous. Television is a medium that relys on corporate sponsorship in the form of commercials to make money. Outside of PBS, television producers and broadcasters are in the business of making loads of money for their boards and investors, and commercials on TV provide that money. Online viewers don’t have the same status as regular broadcast viewers because they don’t have the same commercial appeal. For all the vaunted ideal of “eyeballs” being drawn to the online viewing of entertainment generating brand loyalty of some kind, most people ignore or skim right over anything online except exactly what they want to watch….for free. Yes, there is a Tivo crowd that skips through the commercials when they watch a show later, but studies have shown that not only do most people just let the commericals play as if the show was a live broadcast, even skipping through the speeded-up commercials still makes an impression on viewers. There is a twisted, Machavellian-lite science to making money off of television shows, and broadcasters (including the critical darling cable networks) are always going to look at the bottom line for their decisions. And let’s face it, most people forget or ignore the good shows the networks let live another season. Unless enough people watch ALL good shows, and start ignoring their “guilty pleasures” that are crap and cheap to make (looking at you reality-TV lovers), YOUR favorite show can fall off the schedule at anytime.

  • I want these shows to stay:
    Nikita (CW)
Common, The people are interesting, they do exciting things, the plot is steady, it’s not based on one premise that once the secret is revealed the show ends. It’s a continuing process of fighting evil, and walking on the edge to define what is right and when/how we should fight for it.

    Ringer (CW)
Okay, never watched Buffy or anything, but SMG is seriously amazinggg. It *should* have been picked up for CBS like it was meant to be. This show likes to kinda freak people out, and take twists. GOOD FOR IT! I love not knowing what Siobhan is doing, and I think the show has enough to get a second season. I believe it should.

    Terra Nova (FOX)
Why on earth wouldn’t people like this show? It is soooo amazing. Their are a few downsides:
1.Unrealistic people were over-expectant about the dinosaur graphics (which are still pretty fantastic even though they couldn’t possibly be as great as Jurassic Park).
    2. It only has 13 episodes per season which tends to loose viewers like a mid-season hiatus. People forget when it comes on or think it got cancelled or something. Before I discovered the internet, the only way I knew a TV show was cancelled was the words “Series finale”
    and 3. It’s a SCI FI on FOX :(
But seriously, this show is so amazing. It only has room to grow. It has family, love, drama, and ACTION. Even my I’d-rather-read-a-science-magazine-online-and-then-go-listen-to-classical-music brother who almost never watches TV loves to watch it!!

    Touch (FOX)
I saw it online…The pilot was flipping amazing. Shivers and goosebumps. I probably won’t watch it every single week if the whole show turns into a big long “figure out this week’s mystery” show. It seems like it’s written to be that way, but I’m more interested in the family and realationship aspects. But it’s really interesting. And I’ll definitely try to make some time for it.

    Once Upon a Time (ABC)
Okay, so it’s really cheesy acting and even some props are silly. The writing could use a LOT of work. More often than not, the dialogue is just pathetic in BOTH worlds. I hate the way Storybrooke is run to unrealistically. I hate that David is a lying cheater even though I love Prince Charming. Emma Swann is annoying, Mary Margaret is kinda immature. They killed off half of the best ship in the same episode that I really fell in love with them. The evil characters are probably the best. BUT…It makes me hate myself for actually loving it. I was so excited when I heard about the premise of the show, that I just can’t bring myself to give it up.

It saddens me that I might loose up to three of my current favorite shows. And for what? The crappy shows that somehow people still watch. WHYYY? Don’t people have any creativity? The shows I watch MUST have a good creative, fresh twist. Not some mindless humor to bend my worldview into line with their cop dramas and get-drunk-sleep-with-everyone-and-laugh-every-time-someone-gets-hit-in-the-nuts ideals. Gosh, I’m sooo sick of that.

Meanwhile, I can’t wait to see Kristin Kreuk back on the screen after Smallville and Chuck as The CW’s beauty, Catherine, in their remake series “The Beauty and the Beast” …even though the premise of ABC’s Beauty & the Beast sounds more interesting.

  • Whitney is the little show that could. The critics panned it and expected it to be canceled in a few weeks. So when it gets picked up for a whole season. The critics pretended it didn’t happen. Now expect it to get canceled.

Whitney does better than Up All Night, but UAN gets changed to a safe bet but Whitney is still a long shot. Where is the logic? The show found its legs and each episode gets funnier.

I hope it gets renewed Whitney & Chris are so funny.
