The TVLine-Up: TV Worth Watching This Monday

TV is back, to help you ring in this New Year! This week alone, you’ve got five series debuts, 14 season openers and 36 shows returning from the holiday break. Let’s start off the onslaught of goodness with a list of 10 Monday programs to keep on your radar.

8 pm The Bachelor (ABC) | Ben Flajnik, 29 — aka Bachelorette Ashley Hebert’s reject — peruses 25 women age 23-34 (not including one actress who won’t disclose her age, hmm). Among the pickings are three nurses, a model, a physical trainer and one (ahem) “VIP cocktail waitress.”

8 pm Pretty Little Liars (ABC Family) | Season 2.5 promises us that Aria, Emily, Hanna and Spencer will “take matters into their own hands and try to finally put a stop to their tormentor.” Riiiight. (Read preview here!)

8 pm How I Met Your Mother (CBS) | Marshall visits his father’s graveside after celebrating New Year’s Eve to carry on their tradition of tailgating; Barney and Ted open a bar called Puzzles; Robin is forced to fill in for an inebriated news anchor. (Check out photos here.)

8:30 pm 2 Broke Girls (CBS) | Caroline discovers the secret ingredient to Max’s cupcakes. It can only be hashish, right? If this was a Barney Miller episode, it’d for sure be hashish.

Exclusive First Look: Charisma Carpenter Plays a Sexy Lying Game With Adrian Pasdar

9 pm The Lying Game (ABC Family) | Season 1.5 premiere: When the police find the Mercer car at the bottom of the lake, Emma and Ethan don’t know whether Sutton is missing… or dead. Meanwhile, Char’s aunt (Angel‘s Charisma Carpenter) returns to town after many years, touting memories that Alec and Ted would prefer to keep in the past.

9 pm Two and a Half Men (CBS) | When Walden’s ex-wife (Judy Greer) and mother (Mimi Rogers) try to take control of his company, he tries to enlist Alan as an ally.

9:30 pm Mike & Molly (CBS) | Carl is confronted with his fear of commitment when he and Christina (Holly Robinson Peete) attempt to take their relationship to the next level. (“In a Relationship” Facebook status updates?)

Hot for Winter: Your January Premieres, Returns and Finales Calendar

10 pm Hawaii Five-0 (CBS) | Five-0 must first find out why a teenage girl was targeted in a professional hit before they can find her killer.

10 pm Celebrity Wife Swap (ABC) | Tracey Gold (Growing Pains) trades her very organized home with free-spirited, rules-averse singer Carnie Wilson in this special preview of the new series (which makes its official debut on Tuesday).

10 pm Rock Center With Brian Williams (NBC) | One segment shows how all of that New Year’s Eve confetti gets cleaned up literally overnight at Times Square. As someone whose office is a half-block away from the tourist mecca, color me curious!

Which of the above is must-see TV for you? Also, hit the Comments to politely offer tune-in suggestions of your own. With raindrops we can fill buckets!

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

And I suppose the fact that Fox TV is replaying the initial episodes of House from Season 8 isn’t important enough to TVLine. Nice to know that you folks realise which “side your bread is buttered on”. I signed up to your bloody FB page to be “kept up to date”. How about keeping your “FB likes” up to date on EVERYTHING?????

  20. Jules says:

I still prefer watch repeat of [H]ouse than watch crappy comedy from CBS/ABC!!!

  21. Blair of Queens says:

Why not mention that one of the best shows on T.V “House” staring
Hugh Laurie has gone down hill in the past 2 – 3 years. It’s because
of their writers (especially David Shore) for allowing this to happen.
The dialogue was so great, sharp, edgy. I cannot understand how the
show has changed. Its like everyone took drugs & decided to shut down.
This show was the gift of David Shore. Did he think Hugh Laurie could
continue to carry “House” all by himself? At least before, the scripts
were great. Now, with the new cast – ugh – it is simply awful. H.L.
is such a great actor. Never won an Emmy & now will certainly not win,
for this, the last season. So sad!

  22. Jules says:

Seriously, [H]ouse is still (for me) entertaining, and have faith(now rtrn @ 8pm)the 2nd part of the season will deliver -almost same thing with Dexter, who this year+ last year was boring/drowning..but still watching…
But as a true Housefan-no other shows/caracter can replace my favorite/sarcastic limping diagnostician on Monday night

  23. Erika says:

  24. Ayana says:
