The TVLine-Up: Your Guide to 78 New Year's Weekend Marathons and Specials

SATURDAY, DEC. 31
100 Most Shocking Music Moments (VH1, 3 – 9 am) | Got predictions? We’ve got our fingers crossed for Ashlee Simpson’s Milli Vanilli moment — complete with interpretive dance — on SNL.

Fear Factor (Chiller, 6 am – Sunday 6 am) | Watch contestants from the American, English, Australian and South American editions try to keep from blowing chunks.

Monk (Cloo, 6 am – Sunday, 6 am) | Cancellation be damned! Have hand wipes, will crime-solve.

Oddities (Science Channel, 6 am – Sunday, 3 am) | A new “Best Of” episode airs in the middle of this marathon (at 9 pm). Which is, in a way, odd.

Top Gear (BBC America, 6 am – Sunday, 7:20 am) | Are you feeling the need for speed? That’s not a rhetorical question. (Also airs Monday, 8 am – Tuesday, 5 am.)

NCIS (USA Network, 10 am – 11 pm) | It wouldn’t be the USA Network on a holiday weekend without an NCIS marathon. Well, it could be. But it wouldn’t be the same.

America’s Next Top Model (Style Network, 11 am – 11 pm) | It’s Cycle 15 — when Tyra Banks got serious with the show’s judges and prizes, if not its girls.

Notarized 2011 (BET, 11 am – 7 pm) | Practice counting down to midnight by counting down the biggest music videos of the year. (Also airs 7 – 11 pm; check in on Get Glue for an exclusive sticker.)

The Walking Dead (AMC, 11 am – Sunday, 1 am) | For a sneak preview of what you’ll feel like the morning after, check out Seasons 1 and (the first half of) 2 of the zombie soap opera. (Check in on Get Glue for an exclusive sticker.)

The Amanda Show (TeenNick, noon – 8 pm) | Aw, it’s a wee Amanda Bynes, before she quit acting. And then un-quit.

Adventure Time (Cartoon Network, 1 – 7 pm) | Thank God — something to occupy the kids!

The Real Housewives of… (Bravo, 1 pm – Sunday, 2 am) | After this many hours with the ladies of Atlanta, D.C., New York, New Jersey and Orange County, you’ll be feeling very classy, even if you’ve misplaced your undies. (The Real Housewives of Atlanta also airs Sunday, 10 am – 10 pm.)

100 Greatest Songs of the ’00s (VH1, 2 – 7 pm) | If your taste in music is a little on the edgy side, you might enjoy this countdown mainly for the opportunity to mock.

Twilight Zone (Syfy, 2 pm – midnight) | Not just 40 episodes of the classic series, but 40 episodes of the classic series that were selected by viewers. The Top 20 air Sunday, 2 pm – midnight.

Braxton Family Values (WE tv, 3 pm – Sunday, 1 am) | Love, fighting, babies… all this reality show is missing is a Kardashian.

Dog the Bounty Hunter (A&E, 3 pm – 4:02 am) | The tough guy’s working this weekend. What are you doing?

Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys (Sundance, 3 – 7 pm) | Best. Title. Ever. And potentially Worst. Case. Scenario. (Also airs Sunday, 10 am – 2 pm.)

The Oprah Winfrey Show (OWN, 3 – 9 pm) | Tears, tears and more tears – the final three episodes of the daytime talk show are featured in this Big O marathon.

Moonshiners (Discovery, 6 pm – Sunday, 3 am) | A booze-centric New Year’s Eve marathon? Yes, that seems quite appropriate.

The Three Stooges (IFC, 6 pm – Sunday, 6 am) | Get smart about the originals before they’re reinvented by the upcoming movie.

2012: Countdown to Armageddon (National Geographic Channel, 7 – 8 pm) | OK, this is one countdown we could definitely do without! (Also airs Sunday, 2 -3 am – if we survive.)

The Big Bang Theory (TBS, 7 pm – midnight) | The geeks have inherited the Earth syndication!

Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives (Food Network, 7 pm – Sunday, 4 am) | Warning: Will make you want a midnight snack. Regardless of whether it’s anywhere near midnight. (Also airs Sunday, 2 – 7 pm.)

All the Best, All the Worst of 2011 (CNN, 8 – 9 pm) | Winner of the coveted Most Comprehensive Title of the Weekend prize.

New Year’s Rockin’ Eve: The 40th Anniversary Party (ABC, 8 – 10 pm) | Jenny McCarthy and Fergie host a special about the annual special, featuring a countdown of the top 40 performances ever.

The Five: New Year’s Special (Fox News, 9 – 10 pm) | The roundtable weighs in. But not Biggest Loser style. Although, come to think of it, that would be fun.

Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2012 (ABC, 10 – 11 pm, 11:30 pm – Sunday, 2:13 am) | Performances from New York include Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Carlos Santana, Pitbull and Hot Chelle Rae. From Los Angeles, we’ll get Robin Thicke, The Band Perry, blink-182, Christina Perri, Florence + The Machine, Gym Class Heroes, LMFAO, OneRepublic, Nicki Minaj, Taio Cruz and will.i.am. (Check in on Get Glue for an exclusive sticker.)

New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly (NBC, 10 – 11 pm, 11:30 pm – Sunday, 12:30 am) | Drake, The Roots, Tony Bennett, Jessie J, The Voice‘s Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green, Smash star Megan Hilty, Jimmy Fallon and Rick Gervais all help the former MTV VJ with his countdown. (Check in on Get Glue for an exclusive sticker.)

Stick Clark: Party Like It’s the 90s (TeenNick, 10 pm – Sunday, 6 am ) | It’s a child of the ’90s dream come true: a nice, long stretch of The Secret Life of Alex Mack, All That, Ren & Stimpy, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Kenan & Kel, Doug and Clarissa Explains It All. (Check in on Get Glue for an exclusive sticker.)

106 & Party 2011 (BET, 11 pm – Sunday, 1 am) | Ring in the new year with performances by Diggy Simmons, Young Jeezy, Wale and more. (Check in on Get Glue for an exclusive sticker.)

All American New Years (Fox News, 11 pm – Sunday, 12:30 am) | Bill Hemmer and Megyn Kelly host live from Times Square, with performances by Big & Rich, Trace Atkins, the cast of Rock of Ages and the Fox crew.

American Country New Year’s Eve Live (Fox, 11 pm – Sunday, 12:30 am) | Fox gets countrified with performances by American Idol‘s Lauren Alaina and Rodney Atkins.

Batman (The Hub, 11 pm – Sunday, 6 am) | It’s the 40th anniversary of the live-action series, and there’s a new chapter coming out in theaters, too. So what better time to reintroduce ourselves to Adam West’s Caped Crusader? Synergy!

Coldplay New Year’s Eve: An Austin City Limits Special (PBS, 11 pm – Sunday, 12:30 am) | Mr. Gwyneth Paltrow and Co. make their second appearance at the popular music festival. Hopefully, with funny hats and noisemakers.

MTV New Year’s Eve 2012 (MTV, 11 pm – midnight) | Teen Wolf‘s Tyler Posey and Demi Lovato, hosting from the network’s Time Square studio, welcome Switched at Birth‘s Vanessa Marano and Katie LeClerc, and introduce performances by Lovato, Selena Gomez, J Cole, Jason Derulo and Mac Miller. OK, pretty sure Lovato doesn’t introduce herself. But you get the idea. (Check in on Get Glue for an exclusive sticker.)

New Year. No Limits. (ESPN, 11 pm – midnight) | Need a shot of adrenaline? Snowmobile freestyler Levi LaVallee and FMX rider Robbie Maddison’s attempt to sail over the San Diego harbor should provide it, and then some.

New Year’s Eve Live With Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin (CNN, 11 pm – Sunday, 12:30 am) | There are certainly duller twosomes with whom you could raise a glass. Live coverage follows until 1 am. (Check in on Get Glue for an exclusive sticker.)

The Soup (E!, 11 – 11:30 pm) | Joel McHale looks back at the top clips of 2011. Sorry, did we say “looks back at”? We meant “makes fun of.”

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!

So. out of that huge list, I get TBBT, OUAT and Psych. Not bad, not bad at all.

  3. Bad Breaker says:

Rats. I was hoping to see a marathon of this past season of Sons of Anarchy.

    • Matt Webb Mitovich, Editor-at-Large TVLine.com says:

I checked with FX very recently and there are no plans to repeat Season 4 anytime soon. Probably this summer.

  4. alyssa897 says:

Degrassi – “So many secret hookups, pregnancies and emotional traumas! It’s like a Monday at the TVLine office…”

LOL. Who came up with that? :D

  5. Heather says:

Actually, ABC is airing at least six, if not all seven of the OUAT eps this weekend. The marathon starts at 4 m EST and I for one cannot wait to watch them all again! If only ABC could do a Revenge marathon next somehow, LOL ;)

    • Rachel says:

I thought I had heard that, too – that they were airing all of the episodes so far. (I hope that’s the case, because I know a few people who really need to catch up!!)

    • Templar says:

According to Direct TV schedule OUAT starts at 4 EST/3C and continues to 11 E/10C with a 1 hour break for national and local news. So that is 6 episodes.

    • Vlada Gelman says:

The OUAT listing has been updated. Thanks!

  6. Daveedt says:

Same here. Why is FX not repeating S4, soon? There’s only the last 3 eps ON DEMAND, from Verizon!! 1.99/episode, on Amazon.com!!

  7. Trisha says:

I’ll be watching HBO’s True Blood S4… can hardly wait for Alex Skarsgard as Eric Northman. Waiting for S5 does suck… but this will most surely help! LOL
