Exclusive: The Mentalist Taps Diane Farr, Bonnie Somerville, James Frain For February Sweeps

Diane Farr can check another CBS procedural off her to-do list.

The Numb3rs vet, who guest starred on CSI: Miami in October, will appear in an upcoming Season 4 episode of The Mentalist, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Farr will play Amy Barron, a Type-A, business-minded owner of a small winery in North California. Joining the actress in the outing are Bonnie Somerville (Cashmere Mafia, NYPD Blue) as Amy’s friend/business partner, who is accused of murder, and Kathryn Joosten (Desperate Housewives) as the murder victim’s neighbor.

True Blood‘s James Frain rounds out the crowded guest cast.

The episode is slated to air during February sweeps.

  • That’s one of the things I admire about The Mentalist is that they are not afraid to use recognizable faces as suspects/victims of the week. Most other shows in the “procedural” genre prefer to work with unknowns (I assume to give the shows some realism), but known veteran actors tend to give better performances, and are probably easier to work with as well.

    • That’s true, but often bears the problem that if they have one big guest star, and he is scarcely used through an episode, you can basically be sure that he or she’ll turn up as the culprit at the end. Too often, it’s a dead giveaway.

  • As much as I loved Farr on Numb3rs and Rescue Me [and a lot of other shows], she’ll always be Maria’s mom from Roswell.

That said, I can’t wait to see her Mentalist ep!
