Madonna Super Bowl 2012Madonna is a Super Bowl virgin no more.

After weeks of speculation, NBC and the NFL confirmed late Sunday that the pop superstar will headline the halftime show at Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5.

Madge — who will collaborate with the creative team from Cirque du Soleil to create what’s being billed as a “signature performance” — follows in the footsteps of, most recently, the Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and Prince.

  • Why won’t she just go away? Here’s another halftime show to skip.

    • Madonna couldn’t rock a Tumblestones machine.

      • The only thing Madonna can rock is kidney stones! I’m gonna take an extended trip to the bathroom to avoid seeing that lame show!

  • This is horrible news. The Super Bowl has lost its way. Might as well bring back Up With People.

  • She may be the queen of Pop, but her time has been over for years now. The kids aren’t going to be interested. The best Superbowl show in years is still the Prince show when there was a slight drizzle.

    • @JohnDoe: December 4, 2011 08:11 PM PST “The kids aren’t going to be interested”

“The kids”… really? Were the “kids” interested in The Who ? Paul McCartney ? Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers? The Rolling Stones ?

And her time has passed ? Is that why her last tour grossed over 400 million dollars ?

  • YES! Finally a Super Bowl half time show I’ll watch! Oh, what should she do? Like a Prayer, Vogue, Ray of Light, Express Yourself…at least these!

  • I am a fan of Madonna. But I do not see her as Super Bowl Halftime Show performer. Football is masculine, yes I know they have a huge female fanbase, I am a huge football fan watching right now. But I think she is a bad choice.

  • Sweet! As a gay man, I hate football but will definitely watch the halftime show for Queen Madge!!

  • Because nothing says American football like Madonna and Cirque du Soleil…

  • This would be great….if it were 1998!

  • Madonna as halftime entertainment = time to make a sandwich, play a little hanging with friends, fold a load of laundry…..anything but that.

  • And the kids were into Prince??

  • first time I will be watching the halftime show. Not a big Madge fan, but she usually puts on great performances.

  • Ugh, Madonna is a pretentious beeyotch with stringy arms, man-hands, and inflated cheeks, none of which would bother me if she didn’t have such a bad attitude. She seems like she would be antagonistic with everybody and definitely not a girls’ girl. Does she even sing live anymore? She’s famous for being a spectacle and not particularly for her music, like Gaga. It sounds very egocentric, like Cirque du Soleil will be tributing Madonna like they did with the Beatles catalog, only abbreviated.

Are football fans really Madonna fans? I took most football fans to be more country music-leaning.

  • Cool. I can’t wait. And more important , The Voice premieres right after it. And next day, SMASH!!!!

Comment by Pam – December 5, 2011 04:46 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Another bad halftime show… They need to stick to bands like The Who, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and The Rolling Stones (from previous halftime shows). Some possible suggestions: U2, ACDC, or Bon Jovi. And this is coming from a 22 year old. I like the Black Eyed Peas but their halftime show was mediocre.

Comment by Nicole – December 5, 2011 06:01 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • All those bands you listed are cringe-worthy. At least this year’s halftime show will give me something to look forward to while I’m waiting for The Voice.

  • Better choices would be: Aerosmith, Brad Paisley, Toby Keith, Bon Jovi, or any rowdy, kick-a$$ group.

  • Ugh, horrible idea! It’s not about “the kids” being into the performance, it should be EVERYONE being into it. Guys don’t want to see a 75 year old stripper gyrate to songs their wives listened to in the 80′s. The Who rocked their s***. in 2001 they had Aerosmith and Nelly mixing with half-naked Britney, 2004 had Janet Jackson and JT but also had Kid Rock and P. Diddy… Paul McCartney was the anti-halftime show. The BEP’s were atrocious… MADONNA?? No thanks.
